  1. Probably right, Corp... Now if he can figure out how to get some of the other guys moving more often...
  2. There's been an unconfirmed Al Kotalik sighting!
  3. I just got the Yahoo feed started - is it just my laptop screen, or do the Isles' jerseys look different? They look like a more royal blue tonight...
  4. I only want Novtony back if Paille stays in the lineup and Kotalik gets a night off. And if Tallinder is back, then I want to see Spacek or Kalinin get a healthy night off...
  5. This is the first game I have seen live this year, and I have to say that watching them half-ass the effort in person is even more frustrating that watching it on TV. At least on TV you can change the channel...
  6. I am not quite at the jump off the bridge stage, but I do agree that they are not as good as we thought, and if it isn't time to start panicking, it's time to flip up the protective switch covering the panic button... The next couple months are going to be playoffs-type intensity, and if this team doesn't start bringing their "A" game on a more regular basis, we'll be seeing a lot more close losses like this one. We can blame the refs, bad luck, whatever, but the fact is we let Columbus, ranked 13th in the West with just over half the points we have, take the play to us in the 3rd. And please, anyone who is going to come in and give me the "we're in 1st place, we won XX games, we blah blah blah so we must be doing something right" - save it. This team is throwing out way too many crappy partial efforts, and when teams catch up to them they are hitting them in front of the net, in their own end, wherever they can, and I think it's taking a toll on the Sabres. Kotalik completely disappeared after he was lit up; Vanek was invisible for stretches; Spacek and Kalinin seem to be playing with little or no confidence, and the list goes on.
  7. Looks like Tooth was right...horrible effort in the 3rd, save the last 3-4 minutes. Came out completely flat, from the 3rd period opening faceoff, and watched Columbus skate around in their end, at times completely unmolested. And FWIW, I don't know how the hell they got to 38 SOG... Just got back to the hotel after the game, and otto is right - there were a ton of Sabres fans there. It reminded me of the ECF...
  8. Anyone know who is starting in goal tonight?
  9. Come on...according to Scott Burnside, he's been dominating this year... SO that's it? He was just playing soft so he wouldn't get hurt? I knew there had to be a reason...
  10. No arguments here. I thought the whole YoungStars game sucked, and Vanek's comments seemed to indicate his displeasure with the game - he said they all got only about 2 shifts per period, and he really wanted to play some hockey. On the flip side, he was one of the few I saw actually backchecking, so...Hopefully he uses it as motivation to make the "big game" next year... Friggin' hilarious - for me, it was the most entertaining segment of the entire All-Star experience, aside from Danny surprising everyone with the MVP... There has to be some sort of incentive to make the game mean something. Bonuses, a "whack Darcy Tucker with no suspension" card, something. I think Buffalo-Niagara regionally hosting the AS game is genius, since you would have such a huge local market to draw from for all the events. Don't jinx it...
  11. This has to be one of the funniest "mic'ed up" segments I have ever head...listening to Turco go back & forth while the puck is in his end and then listening to him giving the East players grief for celebrating near him was pretty cool...he didn't come across as big of d!ck as he seems...
  12. Yahoo! Sports is doing a bang-up job with the live scoring: Scoring Summary 1st Period 3:38, Unknown 1 (power play) (unassisted) 5:08, Unknown 2 (power play) (unassisted) 13:07, Unknown 3 (power play) (unassisted) 13:43, Unknown 4 (power play) (unassisted) 18:55, Unknown 5 (power play) (unassisted) 2nd Period 2:41, Unknown 6 (power play) (unassisted) 5:19, Unknown 7 (power play) (unassisted) 6:29, Unknown 8 (power play) (unassisted) 8:30, Unknown 9 (power play) (unassisted) 10:40, Unknown 10 (power play) (unassisted) 11:34, Unknown 11 (power play) (unassisted) 12:47, Unknown 12 (power play) (unassisted) 13:32, Unknown 13 (power play) (unassisted)
  13. The Ovechkin thing pissed me off to no end, but mostly because the league pussed out and didn't suspend him. I've seen enough of him to know that he plays tough, is a great talent and doesn't seem to have that nasty, malicious streak that guys like Kaspar and Tucker have... GOAL BRIERE! Glad to see Marty Brodeur is making Ryan look outstanding by comparison...
  14. The Versus production seems to be getting worse, IMO. Instead of focusing on the camera work, play-by-play/in-game announcing, and cutting down on the ridiculous pop-up animations, they've opted to not fix those poor aspects of their production and instead focused on adding more useless crap to their coverage. For the All-Star game, I don't want to throw Versus under the bus completely - the NHL's and the Dallas Stars' hands are just as dirty with this crappy pre-game, crappy PA announcer, etc.
  15. This whole game production is way too "video game" for me...for me, it's like when you stumble across a website where someone decided to put every possible HTML, flash, audio and visual effect they can on the site, and it looks like an overwhelming mess...
  16. Not sold on the rail cam, simply b/c I am already tired of watching it shoot along the rail and distract from the play...
  17. The only Sabre I saw in the highlights was one who isn't even here - Max was highlighted early on. And to be honest, I thought the pre-game show fell short of the crappy Super Bowl halftime shows...
  18. OK, is it just me, or did the pregame suck? A crappy pre-game song from someone I have never heard of, a garden-variety highlight film and the idiot being lowered from the rafters onto the ice... Just seemed like too much sound & fury, signifying nothing...
  19. I would rather watch a Carolina Hurricanes "Road to the Stanley Cup" highlight DVD than watch the President... Maybe the Sabres don't need any help, but I was thinking of making it league-wide, giving each team an extra event in which to sell merch and concessions...I'm sure teams like Columbus, Nashville, Atlanta, Florida don't exactly have to turn them away at the door for their open practices.... For Buffalo, it might not make sense to bring in more people to the arena - after all, you'd have to actually have merchandise in stock to sell at an open practice...
  20. I would like to see the teams all do their own skills competition, so we can see how our guys match up, and as another poster mentioned, it might be a nice way to encourage turnout at a fan day/open practice around the holidays...and the team could use another chance to get people into the arena and sell some concessions and merchandise... And I seem to remember, back in the early 90s, there was a couple years in a row when everyone wanted to see Mogilny and LaFontaine go head-to-head in the speed skating competition, but injuries prevented that from happening.
  21. Still looks like they can't get their $hit together. Finally going to see some Sabres...
  22. Is it just me, or is the fastest skater competition dragging on way too long? WTF? Is everyone on the All-Star, YoungStar and Dallas Stars rosters competing in this?
  23. Thanks, Versus for that reminder of the 1999 stolen Stanley Cup... :censored:
