Seems like this is going to be unpopular:

If it’s a penalty in the regular season, it’s a penalty in the Super Bowl.
If it’s a penalty in the first quarter, it’s a penalty in the fourth quarter.

I thought it was a marginal call, but the refs didn’t invent the incident.

Everyone likes the refs swallowing their whistles now?

The problem is that it isn’t a penalty until they want it to be one.

So Schenn would prevent today from happening but not Chychrun? I really don't get all the Schenn love on this board.

The Bruins, with all the D they have, are in on Chychrun but apparently he is too expensive for the Sabres. We prefer more picks and 3 or 4 year maybes down the line than a guy just coming into his prime and clearly, by all accounts, becoming really good RIGHT NOW. Well, I guess some teams want to win now, and others prefer to (maybe) win later.

That is the difference between the Sabres and the Bruins.

They have more of a winning mentality than Buffalo does.

I have no problem with the development mentality, but when you spend what, 11 years developing Ullmark and let him slide to one of your biggest rivals over a half million dollars, then I have to read everyone on here complain about goaltending over and over and over again, what really is the process here?

The Bruins can make Paille useful, and what do the Sabres get? Bjork?

Make a move that helps the team now, like they will, and figure it out later.

I say you wear that thing proudly and don’t change a thing.

    Yes.

I just want to posit that a Grigorenko jersey is actually amazing and you should just wear that ***** with pride, lol. But I love having the random people everyone forgets about.

    Agreed.

I would stick with your original decision on the jersey. It is a part of your history with the team. Personally, I love seeing other fans with less common jerseys. Part of me sulks when I go to Bills games in my Allen jersey, and I see 40,000 other people wearing one too, and makes me wish I was wearing a Smerlas or Morse instead.

Just like the fat guy at Amerks games used to yell out

    HOCKEEEEY!!!

Most Rocesterians here are prolly too young to remember him.

    What is a Rocesterian?

And Pincy spelling Amerks for each section around the arena during playoff games after whistles.

And the Pee Wee Herman tequila dance on top of the rail of a section.

Amerks games used to be so fun.

That was Earl of Bud in Buffalo.

RIP Pincie, he was a fun school bus driver when I was a kid.

I’ve been arguing for months that the window is now and upgrading the D is a priority now.  Same with the goalies, but UPL is playing well enough to at least make us competitive.

I was watching NHL now and they suggested we add Schenn and Barbashev.  They said avoid Meier who would have to be re-signed at a number above Cozens or TnT and therefore would upset the balance in the locker-room.  They think he isn’t as good as TnT and maybe not as good as Cozens either.

Barbashev is interested.  He is just turned 27, had 60 points last year, can play all 3 forward slots, is an UFA making 2.7, but is struggling some this year (24 pts in 51 games).  Considering how many Russians KA has drafted in recent years, having a veteran Russian who is young enough to be here awhile might not be the worst idea.  He also has 50 games of playoff experience.  He’s an upgrade over Vinnie and Asplund, great injury insurance and a possible KO replacement is KO walks this summer who can play anywhere in the lineup. NHL Now said he was a pretty hood guy as well.

The Sabres need more hood types in the lineup.

So I’m ignorant with this stuff …

I have Hulu/ESPN+ … no chance this game tonight is available there?

    NESN isn’t streaming there?

That’s because having everything hockey, all in one place, for one fee, would be WAYYYYYY too complicated.

I recall vividly the Sabres and Flyers (I believe) years back... They were tied in the 3rd, a tie got both teams in the dance. They did absolutley nothing, including standing behind the net for what seemed like minutes letting the clock tick away so they got in. So 1000% they think this way in certain game situations.

It doesn’t sound like you recall it vividly. I believe.

I’ve had 2 very contradictory thoughts about Meier.

The first was based on Tuch/Eichel comparisons:

If Tuch and Eichel are similarly useful players on the ice, who in their right minds would prefer Eichel at 4 years at $10 million to Tuch at 4 years at $4.75?

Similarly, Meier, 26, at $10 million for 1 year or Chychrun,24, for $4.6 million for 2 years?

What helps us more? Chychrun at 20 minutes a night upgrading Jokiharju and removing Bryson going into next year? Or Meier at 16 minutes a night upgrading Quinn and removing Okposo? Aren’t we far deeper up front.

Plus, trading for Meier now kinda forces you to negotiate an extension for him now, ahead of Cozens, Dahlin and Power.

Trading for Chychrun now, you can decide what/if you’re willing to pay him after you get those guys signed. More flexibility. More time for both sides to feel out the fit.

    What becomes available more often?

    A defenseman worth 4mil, or a forward worth 10mil?

Without a doubt, the goal should be 110% every single shift, start to finish.

There will be ups and downs, moments where you just don't have it, but that doesn't mean you intentionally take shifts off.

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.

Have you ever eaten 110% of a pizza that you ordered?

Rosen, this year's 1st, & another guy (Weisbach perhaps?) for roughly 110 games + however many playoff games this year & next of a guy that will simply walk after the '24 playoffs are done?

You seem to be channeling your inner Tim Murray w/ that one.

IMHO the only way they bring him in is if they have at least a mid-term (4 years) deal ready to be signed.  The Snarks aren't going to just let him go cheaply & the Sabres aren't going to convert LT assets into a 1 year & change deal.

    The bolded is likely correct.

I also don’t understand the opinions adverse to the situation. You are getting a proven asset with room to grow for 3 unproven assets. It’s highly unlikely you are giving up 3 Timo Meiers for 1 Timo Meier.

To me 3 on 3 ot, especially now that coaches have got their hands on it, resembles the regular NHL game just as little as the shootout, anyways.

Maybe im old fashioned but I don’t mind a tie. Why do I NEED a winner in a regular season game? A tie is also a result. I feel like OT and shootout wins feel cheaper anyways. I know that’s reflected in tie breakers but that’s only a factor if you tie a team.

    Playoff OT remains awesome

Because a game ending in a tie is boring, that’s why.

Why waste 3 hours invested in an entertainment event, and not get that high of a win or that low of a loss? If a tie ending is okay, then there was no point of watching at all.

I wish more players would stand up for their own point of view like Provorov and diss honoring groups before games with special jerseys. Seems like LGBTQ are the only ones who ever get honored with special jerseys before games. Why don't other minorities get equal time? There are Indians, Blacks, Japanese, Ukrainians, Chinese, Africans, Hispanics, Christians, Muslims, Jews...How about the homeless, stray animals, or even space aliens? Why are only LGBTQ and maybe the military getting all the attention?

Yeah, I think Dorsey has the same gunslinger attitude Allen has, and that's why Allen likes him so much.

Seems to me like Dorsey thinks he’s playing a video game, instead of a real game. The back to back calls for deep throws to Davis made me think of a kid playing a video game.

    I got nothin’.

Was really looking forward to the Miller celebration on Thursday, but they don’t deserve another minute of my support. Friends and family can have my STs for the rest of the season. I’m spent. And for the first time in decades season ticket renewal is questionable.

    I feel you.

I had been waffling on going to the Miller game, but the performance tonight solidified my decision not to waste my time and money on it.

Zamboni at Thomas Creek aka Rochester Ice Center.  It's more like pick-up than a league. No refs, no scoresheet. "Coach" takes us through drills for 15-20 minutes first, then game on.  Coach blows whistles for icing and off-sides, drops puck for face-offs, calls the occasional penalty (penalty shot). Other than that it's mostly fun and laughs and the progression as an adult learner is so addictive if you are that type.

I’ve been trying to find a league that would be a good fit for me. I haven’t played in 20 years, so I can’t just join a league with guys that have been actively playing, but I’m also overqualified for the “never ever” league.

I will have to look into this, it might be what I’ve been looking for.
