On the Island, trying to tie the semifinals at three games apiece, the Sabres open up a 2-0 lead only to see the Islanders score five unanswered goals. With the game and series all but decided in the third period, Lindy Ruff cruises past Billy Smith and receives the butt end of his goalie stick in the kisser as a souvenir of his trip. Ruff attacks Smith. "It was in the heat of battle," Ruff said. "I would have jumped off the Grand Island Bridge to win the game."
I swear to God I saw Mike Bossy and Brian Trottier kiss on the lips following a goal in that game. And how awful that that game falls on the same awful date that we lost game seven in Pittsburg.

At the Aud, Bob Sauve stops all 22 Islanders shots and offensive defenseman John Van Boxmeer gets the winning goal as the Sabres beat the Islanders 2-0 to close to within three games to two in the Stanley Cup semifinal series. The Sabres record only 15 shots on goal, but make them count. Can the Sabres do the improbable and tie a series they trailed three games to none?
See, if I had started that series in goal we would have won the cup that year. But no! You know who started and lost every game

OMG!!!!! What an unbelievable game!!!! The look on the Ottawa players faces was priceless!!! What a choke job by #24 on the Senators and what a shot by Drury!!! Sabres Win 7-6 15 secnds into OT!!!!!!!!!
This might have been the best game I've ever seen.....
Ahhh---Roooooooo!!!!!!!!!! :P

I still can't believe it.
Folks, this Sabres team of ours has as much HEART and desire as any team I've ever witnessed.
I officially BELIEVE they can bring a cup to Buffalo.
...And I'm an agnostic....
Ditto! Ah-Roooooooo!!!! :P

I'm not ready for this season to end, so it will go on! It must! :P

Bob Nystrom scores off Bob Lorimer's rebound early in the second overtime as the Islanders win their second straight game at the Aud to take a two games to none lead in the Stanley Cup semifinals. Andre Savard had tied the game at 1 with eight minutes to go in the third period. Almost as bad for the Sabres, they lost Craig Ramsay for the rest of the playoffs to a broken wrist. Ramsay had not missed a game in seven years.
I was in 8th grade and the second OT was too late for me to stay up but I'll never forget the headline in the sports the next day: "There's terrible trouble in Sabre Country"

I've gotta go with
1 - Briere
2 - Team - D
3 - Miller
Briere earned it with two picture perfect assists. It was the best team defensive effort I've seen in a while. Miller gets it for the save off the tip where it hit the post after he just got a piece of it.
I was thinking of the Team star myself, but Timmy really played great. I didn't think Miller had any really stupendous saves to make. Most everything was long range and from the outside. It is worth noting that the only Flyer shot to hit the goal post went off a skate before hitting it. The Flyers have relied heavily on deflections off of Sabres skates to score. Let's hope this is a frustrating loss for the Flyers and it causes them to take a few penalities in period one Tursday

My three stars
3-Miller
2-Connelly
1-Briere
:D

The Sabres climb back into their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Penguins, winning in the Igloo, 4-1. With the game tied at 1 in the third period, Dominik Hasek shines on a pressure-packed penalty kill, then Jason Woolley and Miroslav Satan score 3:12 apart to give the Sabres a 3-1 lead. James Patrick seals the deal with an empty netter.
Hopefully this will be a memorable day in Sabres history. In a good way, of course
:P

The Sabres beat the Canadiens 4-2 at the Aud to take a two games to none lead in the semifinal round. Roger Crozier gets the start in goal over Gerry Desjardins, and Craig Ramsay gets the winning goal.

The Islanders stun the Sabres 4-1 in Game 1 of the semifinals at the Aud. The Sabres have an early goal by Rick Dudley, then go on a five-minute power play, but Bob Bourne scores a shorthanded goal to tie the game and give the series a huge turning point -- sound familiar? John Tonelli adds two more, and Mike Bossy, one.

At the Aud, the Sabres stave off elimination in the Adams Division semifinal in a big way, routing the Bruins 9-3 to force a deciding Game 7 in Boston.
April 29, 1994
Back to where Jimmy Hoffa is, the Devils bury the Sabres with a 2-1 win in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
April 29, 1997
At the Marena, Derek Plante scores in overtime of the seventh game to eliminate the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Plante also scores the tying goal off a faceoff in the third period.
Wow!!! What a day! I remember all those games except the first one. I thought John Van Boxmeer scored that goal against the Islanders, but you know what they say about memory :P

I'm going with Derek Roy to hit the winner!

Flyers have taken the lead

Dominik Hasek makes 30 saves in the Meadowlands as the Sabres shut out the Devils 2-0 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Todd Simon makes his only goal as a Sabre count -- he pots the game-winner. In the net opposite Hasek? Rookie Martin Brodeur.
I didn't know we won game one of that series. Don't remember Todd Simon at all, actually. I of course remeber Dave Hannan's goal later in the series.

Nice interview with Rob Ray and Tie Domi. Domi seemed humble, honest and real.
-
BUT...If the officiating is this bad, at home no less, can we beat the upper echelon teams?
OK...I just hate officials, but I thought tonight was really bad.
Hey, at least the Toronto 'War Room' didn't overturn Pyatt's goal. Guess they hate Montreal more than us :P
-
Now that was a hockey game!!! Great win! Hopefully they are rounding into form for the playoffs!

SCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Timmy is on fire!!!!!!
Get your into the chat man Im talking to myself :D
Wow, not just Timmy, that was magic by several players leading to that goal!

Doesn't matter if it restores some of the confidence the Sabres lost a few weeks ago...
True, building momentum is very important. The losing streak in behind us and the winning streak in now growing. I can't wait to see the flyers game! :P
-
Yeahhhhhhhh! Did Max Afinogenov play a hockey game! I think I'm just going to enjoy the win and not talk about the deficiencies. We all saw them. But to tie it late and win it in overtime was pure magic. Maybe this is what this team needed!
It was a good entertaining game. Come backs are always extra special. But Ottawa is obviously not the same without those great defenseman out of the game

Toot Toot! Hurrah! I'll be at the game friday, can't wait!

Ain't my pet...I just respect somthing that wins back-2-back anything. You see, I'm from Buffalo.

Sadly, he is dead now. (Won "ugliest dog" contest [at least] 2 years in a row).
Sorry bout that. I love my pets, too. Was just wondering.

Someone tell me again that this team's problem is goaltending...It's ALL defense/forwards not helping on defense.
Some one tell me again what the hell that picture you have up is? Jesus Christ! It looks like a Bat Dog!
