  1. My boss scheduled four...yes, FOUR...consultants to be on site today, all of which are working on different projects. Granted, I was working directly with only one of them, but it had to get every one of them settled in because the boss was running late. RUNNING LATE?!!!?!?!??!?? Today, of all days, you woulda thunk he'd be on time for once. Nope.

  2. So today may be the day this goes over 10000! That's a lot of bitching!

Complaint: meetings. Normally I don't mind meetings since I almost always sit at my desk, but now I have a bunch more work to do away from my desk in the lab *AND* a bunch of meetings to talk about that work so I'm suddenly at 4-5PM and haven't gotten my lab work done yet. At least I have work, I guess.

This. I've hardly been able to do any actual network engineering work this week because of all these f'n meetings.

I thought productivity was getting actual work done...

  3. ESPN's heavy coverage of Game 1 will be just about it (NBA starts tomorrow). It's almost comical. Was there no baseball controversy tonight?

There was more coverage of the NBA Finals in the past hour than there was about the Cup Finals over the past three days. I know E$PN wants to promote their own programming, but this is nuts. I guess I was hoping that the Rangers being in the Finals would garner more coverage for the NY market, but I suppose it was all for naught.

    :wallbash:

  4. I'd go with the Rangers. I really don't mind the Rags at all, and on the other hand I hate the Kings. I guess I don't really know why, last time they were in the Finals I didn't even watch a game.

I never minded the Rangers, but since I live in that market, I hear all of their fans who were blasting the Callahan-MSL trade and wondered why Alain Vigneault was the coach are now shouting from the rooftops about how that trade was the greatest thing since the invention of hockey. Give it a rest, people.

So, while I'd normally root for the Rangers in a LA-NY series, I'd probably like to see the Kings win that one...if it comes to it. LA is good, but they just don't excite me for some reason.

  5. Briere with yet another huge playoff goal.

Could someone in WNY please leave a flaming bag of dog poop on Larry Quinn's doorstep?

And did anyone who watched the game think Vaneks play justified more ice time than his now-customary 11 minutes?

I admit I haven't been glued to this series yet, but I also haven't noticed Danny too much on the ice. His goal was a nifty play (or a lucky bounce, depending on your perspective), but it doesn't seem like he's all over the ice and the Rangers have no answer for him.

Montreal got the lucky bounces they needed to stay in this thing. I thought Tokarski was solid-to-excellent and deserved the win. This won't be a series unless Montreal wins on Sunday night.

  6. Really? I don't see Chicago pulling that kind of crap. Nor did LA the year they won. Obviously the emotions will be high, and there will be violence, but there's a difference between it being part of the game and it being a tactical choice "to set the tone".

I don't see as much "violence" happening because - for the most part - the players know what's at stake and won't relegate themselves to goonery just to exact some revenge. In theory, the more they do that, the more likely they'll get called for it.

Then again...this is the Bruins we're talking about. <_<

  7. Boston v Montreal game was awesome. Especially the part where Boston lost.

This. Bruins can goon it up all they want...in the end, it's a loss and they showed their true colors at the end of the game. I doubt we see anything come out of this.

Game 7 should be a head-knocker. I hope I get the chance to watch some of it.

  8. I was already tired of Pierre McGuire after the first few games of the playoffs. It just hit me last night that we still have about 6 weeks left of him.

I'm also really tired of my co-worker dropping the ball. I called him on it this morning when he didn't know how we were designing something for a specific project. Even our boss tried laying into him this week and it didn't seem to affect him. :wallbash:

  9. That was funny. Like I said, when he calls the game, he's okay. Game 47 on a Sunday afternoon,… unlistenable.

Disagree. Now, I've only been watching hockey since 1984, but Doc is (by far) the best play-by-play guy I've had the pleasure of watching/listening to. Yes, he does delve into stories, but the announcers usually do that on a national broadcast. For the most part, he calls the action and calls it well. What I can sense from him is his love and deep understanding of the game. His one-liners are quirky, but that's his style. He'd be boring if he didn't have those. Pierre McGuire needs to stop talking about the junior leagues these guys played in and analyze the game, for once.

    As for the action...

The STL-CHI series has been excellent. The COL-MIN series has been outstanding. And why is it that every winner in the LA-SJ series has scored at least 5 goals? I doubt the winner of that series will make it past the second round if their goaltending doesn't hold up.

I saw a Bruins fan gripe last night about Detroit holding Boston's sticks. Please...Boston has been holding, clutching, jabbing, grabbing, elbowing, cheap-shotting, and gooning for the past 5 years and are still doing so. The refs could have called about 12 penalties on them in the second period alone last night. I know they can't call everything, but call something more often than not.

Montreal made Tampa Bay look like a bunch of scared four-year-old girls out there.

I want St. Louis to win the whole thing...not because of Miller or Ott or Ken Hitchcock. The Blues haven't been relevant for years and it's good to see someone other than Chicago, Detroit, Boston, or Pittsburgh take it home.

  10. I was in a happy phase for the past two weeks since Union won the national championship...that honeymoon is over.

My co-worker has been there for a year and still doesn't know our network topology...which is his job.

The wife travels for work this week and next, while I travel the following week, then go on a guys-only golf vacation the week after. I like alone time, but this is nuts.

My thoughts and best wishes also go to your wife, NS.

  11. Bump...

57 hours until puck drop in Philly and I couldn't be more anxious. My Union Dutchmen made the FF two years ago, but we all have a different feel of the team this year. There's a lot more experience on the roster and the players sincerely feel they can win the whole thing. For anyone interested, here's a good preview of the Union-BC game from USCHO.com:

  12. I'm a Union season ticket holder...we're all thrilled at the #1 ranking, but we also know it means nothing. The results on the ice are the only ones that matter.

Dave Starman picked us to win the thing, playing Wisconsin in the final. I like Dave, but I don't know if that's a jinx...at least it wasn't Barry Melrose (who watches college hockey twice a year, if that).

I think BC is the team to watch for, as long as they don't have to play Notre Dame. :P

  13. I'm hoping for the best for you, NS.

I've griped about him before, but I have to again...my co-worker WILL NOT SHUT UP. He's a combo of a dork who tries to make everything into a joke, a lazy worker who doesn't take the time to learn stuff on his own so he constantly asks me, and Cliff Claven - the guy who likes to spew out trivial facts because he knows them and he thinks it makes himself look smart. Yesterday and part of today, he doesn't let me sit down before he starts asking questions. Then once I do, he asks another one 5 minutes later. This continues until I take a men's room break or go to lunch. I think my sinus headache is because of him.

I honestly do like my job and am grateful that I have one.

  14. Bring on some warmer temperatures.

This. I'm normally a fan of winter - but only when it should be winter. We're a non-balmy 16 degrees in early March and I'd like to see the snow start melting so the golf courses can open. That and I'm tired of people bitching about it.

    So...yes...I'm bitching about people bitching.

  15. It's funny everyone has pets with issues too. I got bronchitis around the new year and it took a good month to come and go. I still don't have my voice fully back because of the swelling, hacking, frigid air, 20 times snowblowing, snoring, booze. The dog was competing with my noises every morning. We sounded like a table at a Jewish deli.

     :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

  16. My infamous co-worker is at it again...he's a biker (10-speed, not the Harley kind) and bikes into work every day. If you don't know, we're a group of network engineers/admins (i.e., data comm stuff), so part of our job is to be able to high-tail it out to a remote branch office in case something breaks on a moment's notice. We're a small group of 3, so it's him, me, and our boss. Since our boss seems to be MIA half the time, that leaves it to me to hop in the car and go fix the problem. Most of our branch offices are local (Albany area), but it's not like I'd have to make a trip to Syracuse, Binghamton, or Buffalo where our other offices are. We have company vehicles, but it was recently announced that they are no longer available for our use - maintenance & gas seem to be too costly. I'm also responsible for the major projects our group does, so when a branch office goes dead, my projects suffer. My boss told me he'll have a serious talk with said co-worker about this, but I'm sure he hasn't yet. :wallbash: I gave the guy a guilt trip on Tuesday when I had to make an office visit, but I think he just doesn't care.

Oh yeah...and Katy Perry. She's mighty fine to look at, but her songs annoy the living H out of me.
