  1. It was clearly offsides. Foot was in air.

Dumb challenge system, but right call within the crappy system was made.

I don't mind the challenge for offsides. If the play is illegal, it should be overturned. This is what replay was intended for.

But that play looked inconclusive at worst.

  2. I'm a Jack Nicklaus fan so it looks less likely every year that Tiger will break his Majors record.

That went out the window when his transgressions became public. He hasn't been the same golfer - or the same person - since then.

I think Tiger became more enamored with the fame and fortune and stopped loving the game. Perhaps he started to lose his desire after his father died (no more pressure to win?), but he clearly didn't handle his life properly once he had everything he could possibly have.

  3. The only positive I can draw from watching this is that we now have JBOT, who I believe has his finger prints all over the Pens roster and coaching staff. Let's hope the Sabres can be in this situation sometime soon.

Can he have his checkbook all over the officials like Mario does now?

  4. I do not want any team winning their first before the Sabres do.  Not even a team with my favorite non-Sabre, Pernell Karl.  No. No way.

Sorry, Eleven...but I hate this sentiment. So what if a team wins their first before the Sabres do? Would you rather keep seeing the Penguins and Blackhawks win every year? I don't see how that's good for the game.

Nashville has been phenomenal since mid-April. They deserve to win. I feel the Penguins have skirted by and somehow eked out wins they shouldn't have gotten. Yes, they were better than Ottawa last night and probably during the whole series, but I think Nashville has been better overall and I hope they win.

  5. Linus Ullmark, Hudson Fasching, Justin Bailey, Nick Baptiste, Casey Nelson, Eric Cornel, Sean Malone, CJ Smith, there will be plenty of solid players in Rochester this year, and they're all still really young...Giorgio Estephen, Rasmus Asplund, Cliff Pu, Brandon Hagel, Will Borgen, Casey Fitgerald, Philip Nyberg, Brett Murray, Victor Olofsson, Jonas Johansson, they could all see time in Rochester in 1-2 years too, and become good players.

The whole entire organization has been being rebuilt, this stuff takes time...especially the development of players drafted after the 1st round.

I'm still holding out hope for Mat Bodie.

  6. I had to put my 15 year old Australian Shepherd to sleep today. This is the 3rd dog I've had to say goodbye to. It doesn't get any easier. She was probably the best dog I ever had. Amazing how they become a part of the family.

Sorry, jsb. I've only done that once in my life and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Just know she's at peace and playing with some chew toy in the sky.

I had my first colonoscopy this week. Many of you know this already, but while the procedure itself is cake, the prep was a small version of hell. It would've been one thing if I could have done all the laxative stuff the night before and be done with it, but it's another thing when you have to get up at 2:30am to drink more of it and sit on the toilet for an extra hour. I think my legs were numb from sitting that much. At least I was knocked out for the whole thing.

  7. Even though Bettman recently said there are no plans to change the playoff format, I'm sure it's bound to happen.  People want to see the best playing each other in the Conference and Stanley Cup Finals.  The round 2 match ups are unbalanced.  Could lead to lower ratings in round 3.  And if ratings become a regular problem, the NHL will make another change to the playoffs.  Use the kiss (keep it simple stupid) method.  Top seed should be playing lowest seed.

It's not that much different today than the way it was 10 years ago - in 2006, the Sabres & Senators had the top points in the east and met in the semis. It just happened to be because they were in the same division that the Sabres got the #4 seed.

That said, I'd rather we go back to seeding the top 8 by points and re-seed after each round. Not much you can do about upsets, but with the re-seeding, we'd at least get a chance to see the top points teams left in the end.

  8. Despite how Chicago may be good for hockey, I'm glad they're out...they've won too much lately. The Bruins can burn in hell, so can Crosby & the Penguins.

I'd prefer to see a Canadian team, so I guess it'll have to be Montreal. I don't want to see the Leafs or Oilers have enough success right now and I don't think I'm over the goons from Ottawa going after Drury (yeah...I know it was 10 years ago).

If it's not Montreal, then let it be the Caps. If they don't do anything significant (make the finals), then I'll stop rooting for them.

  9. I started having abdominal pains last Sunday (the week before Easter), went to the doc on Tuesday morning, who promptly sent me to a general surgeon - thinking appendicitis. After 3+ hours waiting for the CT scan, it finally revealed no appendicitis, but a form of ulcerative colitis. A night of IV antibiotics cleared it up, though I was on a no food/no water restriction. However, I was supposed to see a GI doctor the following morning before I ate or drank anything.

At 5:00pm the next day, I finally got to see the doc. I was starving and my head was pounding from the lack of caffeine. I hadn't eaten anything since 6:30am the previous morning and finally got a clear liquid meal at 6:00 or so. Turns out, the GI doctors never got the message that I needed a consult, despite several calls from my nurse.

  10. ANYONE BUT CROSBY!!!!

For the love of anything that is good, someone please get rid of him and the Penguins. I know they'll win this series, but I hope Montreal gets past NYR and smokes them in round 2. I'm tired of the Rangers, too.

EDIT: My bad...they'd play Washington or Toronto in round 2. Ugh.

  11. My lazy co-worker has reached new levels...while embroiled in a major project (moving a data center from one location to another) for almost two months, he sat on his rear end and didn't help much at all. I think he had the assumption that I would be doing all project work and he didn't have to help, unless he was specifically told to do so. Two other high-profile projects suffered while I was in the middle of the data center move - all he had to do was some basic stuff that he knows how to do. Meanwhile, executives and the CEO are wondering why these other high-profile projects aren't ready to go.

He then dropped the ball last week by never responding to a vendor, who brought it to our manager's attention. Guess who now has that project on top of three others - of course, they're all top priority.

  12. After seeing poo this year, I'm anxious to see Pu next year.

It's only appropriate that I continue this thread by adding my Union College connection...

Winger Spencer Foo (top 10 Hobey Baker finalist) has declared his intention to forego his senior year at Union and enter the pros.

  13. How do we feel about Union's Vecchione?  5'10" 195, high compete level, good shot, quick but not elite speed.  24 years old.  Played center at Union.

Thank you - I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. I'd agree his speed isn't elite, but he's sneaky fast. He skated circles around the ECAC this year. Yes, he's a center, but he can win faceoffs - probably his biggest asset to Union's success this year, outside of his scoring. SOMEONE CALL TIM AND GET HIM ON THIS GUY!!!

Rumors have it that Shayne Gostisbehere (his teammate from the 2014 NCAA Championship team) is trying to recruit him to Philly and the Rangers are supposedly in the mix to sign him. Vecchione is from Saugus, MA...so he might have a soft spot for the Bruins. God help me if he signs with any of those teams.

That said, another of Vecchione's teammates from that 2014 team is Mat Bodie...currently in Rochester.

Union's season ended on Saturday, so if we're not in on Vecchione now, it's probably too late.  :(
