I want to see the Sabres as a major seller and I want Hall specifically gone.  Do not want to see him extended.

I do not want Jack or Dahlin traded.

I am OK with Reinhart going *if* the return is strong.

Risto can always go, if we can get anything in exchange for him.

Heck Sam and Risto are the only bright spots right now! Take them away and what's left? Fur sure no Hall signing. Apparently the Leafs are interested in Hall and we should hopefully win that trade as Leafs have much to offer..

  2. I think it is safe to say that tanking does in fact work as proven by Pittsburg and Toronto...the problem is they immediately got better again and we keep getting worse. For sure it hurt not getting McDavid but then Edmonton sucks with him so hard to know what would have happened had we won that lottery to get McDavid. Either way this team seriously needs a President before it makes ANY moves (including firing Ralphie). Let a new President make ALL the decisions as Toronto did. Rutherford and BB would be a great start!

  3. I guess my biggest question would be do we really think we'll get anything back if we trade jack that will actually make the team better? We are having a hell of a time finding a 2nd center after giving away ROR and if we trade jack then we have no top centers at all. That in itself should tell them not to trade Jack but rather to show RK the door sooner the better. Who knows maybe we can get back into the playoff race if they do somethig soon. Otherwise it's "wait until next year"  which is seem sis our motto every year.

What does the Oilers fan board think?

good question...wonder if they have one? I assume they would not want to see either go but then again they loved through the Gretzky trade so anything is possible. They must be as tired of losing as we are for sure! Meanwhile the Leafs and their fans truly think they are that good and all I hear is talk of a cup after how many years!!! Wait til they meet Boston or whoever from another division...

  5. Living up here in ONtario north of TO all I keep hearing is how great the Leafs are as they continue to rack up crazy numbers against totally inferior teams. Can't help but wonder how long it wil be before we hear that McDavid and/or  Draisaitl become disenchanted and want out of Edmonton? The Oilers have done nothing to really improve and losing three in a row in embarassing fashion can't sit wlll with either player. Kind of a waste for these two guys (and Jack for that matter) to be wasting their "golden years" on crappy losing teams.

So let me get this straight. The logic is that if we somehow had a better goalie and a 2C (wasn't that supposed to be Staal?) then the rest of these lazy soft losers will suddenly rise to the occasion and play proper hockey and everything will be fine? Really?

Or in other words all we need is a guy like Ryan O'Reilly and maybe a goalie like say Robin Lehner..........................................

Sorry, the argument doesn't hold up. It's not that simple.

well said...it is almost impossible to believe that a new goalie and a 2nd line center (yes just like ROR) would solve all that ails this team overnight. I think it goes far deeper then that. Can;t help btu wonder if Jack is looking at ROR and thinking "I want what he got"...

I don't know what he is, and I wonder how he got the job in the first place. All I know from my 50+ years of playing and coaching hockey, is that what this team is trying to execute(if this his philosophy-and I have no reason to believe it's not) it will not work! It doesn't work anywhere, anytime in hockey. And, his BS is wearing thin with players too I believe. At first guys with a good line like he has sound good, refreshing. And then, when no success follows, players realize why should this guy have any credibility?

totally agree...not hard to see the players are so down and the more they lose the more it snowballs.

  8. so is it just me or do I not see what other's are seeing? Some suggest to "be patient" blah blah blah (like we've been patient for how many year snow??). I watch the end of Boston/NY Rangers and the intensity and drive of both teams win or lose is awesome! They hit push scrum and fight at the end of the game a good scrap. I am sorry but this team is not an NHL team right now period! I agree they get paid like a NHL team but they are truly an embarrassment and anybody who actually believes this will "turn around" anytime soon is  smoking too much wacky tobacky...Jack is clearly not a leader and should not be captain (unless you think having temper tantrums is leading). Maybe the pressure of losing and trying to live up to his high draft-ranking and to try to stay relatively close to McDavid and Mathews is creating pressure he simply cannot handle.

Heck Montreal lose a few games and fire their coach. It really was to bad there weren't al the good choices there are now avaiiable when we signed RK. Ralphie is a soccer coach who tries to use techniques that may or may not work in soccer but not hockey. In soccer defense is everything and many try to score that one goal then sit on it and play to hang on to that one goal. As we are seeing, that simply will not work in the NHL...maybe some games are 1-0 but they are intense and  teams try to score (not like the Sabres who clearly are not being coached properly). Clearly the players do not know their roles and RK expects everyone to be defensive experts. Ralphie needs to change to meet the NHL not the other way around (although he clearly thinks he can change not only the team but the NHL)

  9. Isn't the old blame-the-goalie thing getting tried? You really think we would have won with that "effort" they put forth today with Linus in net? That was really hard on the yes...an dyes I am totally on board to trading Jack and a bunch more but I do not trust the current regime to do any real moves. We first have to clear deck then hire a real President who then hopefully will bring in a compentant GM then coach. And they actually are serious about bringing fans back into the stands? That would have been a complete boo-fest today if there had been any poor souls fool enough to pay money to watch that crap. Absolutely 100% disgusting.

The 38 year old Mike Smith is now 6-0 with a sub 2.00 GAA and a .935+ SV%.

If the Oilers keep finding this kind of goaltending, watch out

at the end of the day (or season) I still think both Edmonton and the Laughs won't go anywhere once they play a good team. Living up here north of Toronto and having to hear Leaf fans go on and on about how great they are and what a great season they are having is sickening! They go on about how this is their year (like they do every other year but this year they are playing in the lousy north division where there is virtually no competition to speak of). Will be interesting next 3 games TO versus Oilers...Mathews is going great guns and McDavid is, well I can only say I said it then, and I wil say it now...we were doomed when we lost that bloody lottery. Imagine Edmonton without McDavid???

Is it okay if I voted to bury Skinner AND fire Kreuger?

I might agree with the Skinner fans if he'd even come close to playing well when he got that stint on the top line, but he didn't. He's been rubbish.

you get my vot eas well...exactly what should take place

I wouldn't disagree with this idea, only that there are limits to how much one bends or adapts the system to the players. idk if there is a point of overlapping common ground between them or if Kreuger is trying to assert dominance or vice versa but we didn't win hockey games with Housley's fast attack whatever it was and Skinner's 40 goals didn't get us to the playoffs so a more balanced approach (Kreuger) doesn't seem like a bad idea imo.

Skinner's absence from #1 power plays and 3 on 3 overtimes speaks volumes imo about his lack of disciplined play as both those situations require strong positional play and teamwork as well as just skill.

I just wish JBot hadn't given him a no trade with all that coin.

trust me Skinner would waive that NTC in a heartbeat but there is no way to trade a $9MIl player who is basically not wanted...

There just has to be more to the Skinner story.

certainly makes one wonder...I mean Jack is absolutely brutal out there and Hall is a complete bust yet Ralphie picks only on Skinner? Does not make a lot of sense. It's not Skinner's fault that he got such a absurd contract...and he was signed to score goals which he did very well until RK came along. Meanwhile everybody still wants to trade Sam and he is our best player right now (obviously others are close behind such as VO and I love Cozens). I do like the young guys we are seeing more of such as Cozens, Asplund, Borgen etc...

That's what a losing culture is.  Standing pat when it's obvious you can DO BETTER... eg, Hutton, Okposo, never firing a coach during the season as the losing continues, etc...

so true...that is what always gets me when I watch other teams is how they play with such intensity and heart and drive...teams like Montreal Pittsburg Philly etc etc win on shear tradiiton and heart and desire. all things this team seems to have virtually none of.  Our captain is the quite possibily the worse of the whole bunch...sad
