  1. Am I the only one who thinks they are desperately hoping Tage works out as he is all that is left to show for the historic ROR trade. Sad thing is Tage has the size and skating for sure but does not use either to his advantage enough. I strongly yearn for the team to get bigger and harder to play against and Tage woudl be awesome if he only got nastier and used his size more...

Look what hiring Joe Quenville did for the Florida Panthers. Hope KA takes what hiring a successful experienced HC can do for a team.

totally agree...still hear talk of hiring guy from College with no NHL experience may happen...if they do not go after an experienced guy this time (and also a President like Rutherford) I totally give up. There is no excuse when you have great coaches like Boubreau & Gallant availalble along with Rutherford. I also hear that we may hire some guy from Pittsburg who was Rutherford's assistant GM...isn't that what exGMJBotto was too? No thanks to that

  3. the sooner they trade Hall who was a complete giveaway-machine out there and move Skinner back on the "top" line (not sure we have a "top line these days without Jack) the better. Sportsnet reports that a host of teams would like Hall and that our return may be quite good. Kerfoot and a pick from TO sounds okay. I would rather see anybody but Skinner on our "4th line" as paying a guy $9mil to play there is absurd. Anyways we need Torts to straighten this bunch out...

  4. I was one of those who really thought we would be better this year and I am waiting to see how things play out with a coach behind the bench that allows the players to play to their strengths and does not handcuff them with grand illusions of some incredible defensive system that Ralphie -boy tired to implement with virtually no success. If you are trying to build a defensive-oriented team you need players to fit into that system. Clearly it did not work and hopefully allowing the  players to just play and have fun and open things up may help and then I think we'll have a better idea of what's what. It does seem however that both Staal and Hall seem to have "lost it" and I pray we can get something worthwhile at the trade deadline for each...

No matter how bad the Sabres are, I always can take pleasure in the Flyers losing by nine.  Even to the Rags.

crazy to think Rangers can score 9 on Philly when we can't score that many in like nine games! Last I heard Panarin isn't even playing! Crazy

So, just like the Sabres, eh...

yes that was my point...really need consistent night-after-night good goaltending and we haven;t been close to that since RM left. Did someone on here say that Ullmark is UFA after this season? That opens a whole new conversation as to what to do with him? Is he seem to be the answer to our long-term goal situation? Tough decision there to be made for sure

Sounds English for “where almost no one lives“.

actually that figure of 701 is nowhere close as we have large amounts of city folk up here at their million-dollar cottages on al the lakes around here. My son workl every summer at what is known as Indian Point for many of these folk and their "cottages" are sometimes ten-thousand square feet! Crazy...hate to see their home! With COVID 19 many are here now year-around

Coboconk is an awesome town name.

I just had to say that.

yeah it is...Coboconk, founded in 1851, with a current population of 701, is in The City of Kawartha Lakes in south-central Ontario, Canada. There is continuing debate about the derivation of the name Coboconk. Some believe it is derived from the Ojibway term gakaabikaang, meaning “waterfalls” while others claim that it means “where gulls nest”.

I'm sure a huge factor in this is that the border is closed.

There are a lot more Canadians in that building for a garden variety Sabres game than a lot of people think.

It's a huge part of why the franchise is successful over the years.

The Sabres are like the Bills: they have a regional fanbase.

With COVID and the closed border, a huge chunk of our ticket base just got cut out of the mix.

And of course what is left is so frustrated, they aren't interested in jumping through hoops to attend.

    I don't blame anyone.

very true...we drive from 90 miles north of Toronto down but not bothering last few years as the team is really hard to watch! I don't bother even watching them on TV (Sportsnet have them on a lot) anymore. Guess I got spoiled  being a day-one fan and seeing all the great teams we had and great players with so much heart (we really should have won at least one cup for sure). But yes border being shut down will for sure play a factor in fans coming to see them play

This is what I said about Tage prior to the season started.  There was all this talk about how he bulked up, and will be tougher blah blah blah...

Fast forward several months, and in terms of physical play, he is the same player he was before.  There are exceptions to this change in terms of being more physical, but they are the exception rather than the rule.

it is too bad Tage couldn't or won't play tougher cause he sure has the size and hands to be a great power-forward. We haven't had a good power-forward since we gave away Kane. When I see Tage I think he has so much potential

  11. yikes I did not mean to start a big debate about who's better! I do think however that maybe what I meant to say is it seems both McDavid and Mathews are more driven then Jack. Jack seems to do well when it comes either easily or naturally (like last year).  But he certainly does not seem driven as are those other two guys. And throwing temper tantrums is no way to lead a team I think...just my opinion

  12. 12 hours ago, Weave said:

Cuz Jack never hit Matthews level.

    shraderenfreude

stats don't tell the whole story...clearly Jack is no leader (and should not be captain) and AM leads by example (as does McDavid). There is no comparison regardless of what stats are thrown around.

  13. I feel so guilty cause I got my son to love this disfunctional team and now he is lamenting with me! Mind you in my defense I got him liking the team back when they were exciting and had so much heart (80s and 90s and early 2000's). This is downright embarrassing now compared to how awesome they were back in the "good old days". Seems the turn-around coin-sided with Pegulas buying the team  as they try to do to much and should leave the team to people who are experienced and know what they are doing.  One only needs look at teams like Toronto who tanked got Mathews then brought in experienced people at virtually every level to run the team and they immediately got better. Looks like we are still tanking even when we are not even trying to!

But what exactly are we tanking for? An LHD? Because I see 3 LHD's ranking in the top 6 of picks in most draft boards this coming draft.

And if so, does that mean they've pegged Dahlin as a bust #1 over all already?

I like to think that's the reason for this disaster called the Titanic. I guess we can draft a d-man and trade some of the one's we already have (if anybody wants them). I do worry that Dahlin seems to be really degressing at a time when I was hoping to see a actual improvement

  15. And to make things worse while the Sabres were, well, just the Sabres (give aways, playing seemingly with no heart) Detroit is showing that they care and actually beat TB 6-4.  I am now assuming this is actually a tank year and no one told us. I do agree that there is really no point bringing in a new coach now. It is far too late to save this mess...kinda like throwing water on a fire after the house is  burnt to the ground. We are truly embarrassing (although RK does not seem to be embarrassed himself for whatever reason)

  16. as is speculated...college coach will come cheap compared to experienced NHL coaches. Fact is they really need to go the other way for once spend wisely and get both a President/Director of hockey operations and a experienced coach from the list of available experienced coaches out there (and we all know there are some very good  coaches available right now). Please not another inexperienced coach...might as well keep Ralphie if that is the case

This has been our problem for years.

Hall should absolutely be traded (if he wants to resign here next year, great, let's do it). Is it unreasonable to expect a 1st plus a prospect for him?

at this point I think we'll be lucky to get a 2nd for Hall..unless the Leafs who are rumored up here to be real interested in him may ante up more but I doubt that.
