I mean, they are going to get some kind of draft pick for him.  So it was 8 million well spent.  🙂

depends on the pick...I think we al hoped for something better then what we got for Stall so Hall may only bring a 2nd which is for the most part not much help. Even a 1st from a top team is basically like a 2nd as it will be well over 20th pick and we need a low pick to get anybody good and none of the lower teams would care about trading for Hall...

On a different note, our defense is suddenly playing well and contributing on offense and one is left to wonder if the defense (and team on a whole) are better then we were seeing under RK and maybe guys like Montour and Miler are not as bad as they have been made out. Of course having an NHL goalie (Linus) helps too far beyond what anybody could imagine. Sad truth is Hutton is done and a team with no confidence in their goalie is a really bad thing. Clearly they believe in LInus and love him and play totally different in front of him.

  2. at the end of the day Philly play far better defense then we certainly do right now and if Ghost can't hack it on Philly he sure as hell will never make it here. I do think he has great upside and value for a better team such as Edmonton Toronto etc...of course  not many of the better teams have cap space  however

  3. not too many free agents actually ever live up to the hype or to their salary. One only needs look at Briere and Drury signings and they left the Sabres. No question drafting is so important and good trading (something exGM JBotto would know absolutely nothing about)

It will be very interesting to revisit this thread around this time next year when Linus is generating league-wide buzz at 20/10/3 with a .926 SP for Edmonton, or Toronto or Carolina.

totally 100% agree...Linus will be a top goalie with any sort of half decent defense in front of him. Hell he looks good on the Sabres so imagine him with a good team? I cannot believe we are actually talking of getting rid of him too. Odd when he is one of the few bright spots

  5. while I do not like how the team was respomding under Ralhpie I think it is fair to say that with a healthy Jack playing at 100% the team would have won at least some of the games we have lost recently. I guess what is most disappointing and troublesome is however  how nobody else has stepped up and tried to lead the team in jack's absence. I was hoping maybe Stall would do that but he was plain awful and the other veterans have been a major disappointment too. Funny Perraultforever stated that it is the  lesser paid players whop are giving their all and that is true...can't blame the Lazar's and Reider's and even Okposo has been tearing it up (for him at least). If the team got any production whatsoever from Hall & Skinner and Sam on some nights we would have no doubt won the last 2 games at least.

Normally it’s reasonably possible to laugh things off, at this point, but blowing a 3-0 lead always stings a bit.

Seeing literally the only projected top 6 C in the entire system aside from Eichel go down to injury 3 times as a Sabre, in the span of 25 NHL games played is the other thing.

absolutely agreed...I love Cozens and am looking forward to a great future but if he is going to get hurt every few weeks we are in big trouble. Apparently Jack is seriously hurt too so that does not bide well for our future at center...

  7. Interesting to see Torts struggle to get Columbus going...back-to-back losses to Detroit did not go over well and Laine is on pace to score less then Skinner. I think it is safe to say that Torts may be on his way out but while I have advocated bringing him in to kick butt and get this team motivated,   at the end of the day I think I prefer Boudreau along with Rutherford and Karmanos being added. That would bring respectability back to the franchise almost overnight.

  8. the only way we get anything of real value is if several teams get into a bidding war for Hall. We need say Tor, Ed and Boston to step up and go after him big time. Hopefully other teams get into it too but these teams are desperate and hopefully we will get something of value. Still do not think we'll get a1st unless it is like Boston or whoever where their 1st is somewhere over #20 which is more like a 2nd almost...

  9. they looked actually really good...agresssive and I love Linus...what a difference with him in there. he is for sure good enough to be a started next year...bring back Ryan to back him up.  Sportsnet has the Boston feed and those bloody announcers are absolutely pathetic...worse in the NHL BY FAR

Say whatever you want, dis team doesn't allow double digit scores. I saw the Sabres destroy the Capitals 14- 2 in 1974...dat was the worst team I ever saw...8-67-5.

agree Washington were pretty bad but the sad part with dis year's Sabres team is dat they are not trying to be bad and a lot of people (myself included) actually thought we'd be quite good dis year (or at least good enough to make the playoffs or be right there). Still think many of us thought they were improved from last year (at least on paper it seemed they were).

  11. Good to see the boys really elevated their play with their "boss" behind the bench! Anyways anyone see the highlights from Laughs/Sens where they show the Sens GM up in the pressbox when the laughs score to beat the Sens 3-2 in OT...he actually shows emotion and throws his drink away in anger that his team lost! Yes even the Sens are playing hard and with so much heart and it is somewhat easier to accept losing if you give it your all and play like they do. Then of course we have the Sabres...who seem to play with absolutely no heart or determination. I could find this a little  easier if I thought they were giving their all and were playing like the Sens do. Everyone predicted the Sens would suck this year and many (including I ) thought the Sabres had what may be their most talented team in many years and looked forward to the year. I never dreamed the two teams would be exact opposite...other team stalk now of how they do not like playing against Ottawa as they are so hard to play against. Us Sabre fans can only dream of other teams sayign that about us...

  12. the only teams that would step up and  actually make a trade proposal is a team like Boston and there is absolutely no way I want 4 1st round picks when they will be anywhere from 20 to 27 or 28 overall where you get basically a "prospect" that may or may not work out. The only way this could ever work is if we get 4 actual players who are playing in the NHL and are clearly good. I would also say no to prospects that are playing somewhere in the minors who are "highly touted"...Tage was highly touted and we do not need anymore of players like him. We got burned in the ROR trade and even the EK trade and I am so afraid we will just get burned again. I sure wish we could just get someone to run this disaster who actually knew what they were doing...
