  1. Hopefully this thread can stay on track with the assumption the Sabres keep the pick, even if you want them to trade it.  Yes most of us want that , no need to point it out over and over and over again

back to the actual draft.  I noticed Scott Wheeler had two guys of interest in the slots right around where the Sabres will most likely be picking

    11 Cayden Lindstrom

    12  Tij Iginla

Tavares will replace Mitt’s production short-term and seriously bolster our middle six.

He can also win faceoffs and might help the PP.

This is a short-term proposal I would absolutely entertain.

Nope for a multitude of reasons...the main reason is that he isn't waiving his NMC to come to Buffalo .... lets move on with other ideas

It’s not that the ownership group could not afford to buy him out but rather that there would be no point. There are virtually no cap savings.

He is 33. He had 65 points in 80 games.

will be 34 and no the decline has started to set in.

I would get 50 points with Nylander and Bertuzzi as my wingers

Remember those asshats in Jersey who cheered America's comeuppance?

That's you if you cheered the Leafs' demise.

spoken by someone who doesnt live in the GTA.   Yes, I cheered the Leafs demise, I have every year of my life and Im 54-0 at this point and love it   #1967Forever!

Are you saying Bills fans should never have taken joy in seeing the Patriots lose, even while the Bills were in their drought?

absolutely nothing wrong with being joyful over another teams demise.

Eh, I’m certainly not sad but it doesn’t have much baring since he’s already won a Cup.

Perhaps we’ll get lucky and Tavares will get bought out and sign a cheap deal here to be our 3C for a year or two and want vengeance on his hometown team. 🙂

too old too slow   isnt he like 37 now?

Seems the Skinner hate is getting traction. Is he the most complete player on the team? No. But I don’t think the hate is justified. I think he will come out and surprise people under Lindy. I don’t think he is the the kind of player to be happy and sit in the press box. About 20 goals before Christmas. Mark it.

I would bet my life savings on him having less than 20 goals before Christmas , especially playing (at best) a 3rd line role.

Barring trades, nine of 14 spots in October are spoken for.

Tuch, Thompson, Skinner, Cozens, Quinn, Peterka, Benson, Krebs, Greenway.

If it’s up to me, I acquire real NHL veterans to fill 4 of the other 5 spots.

Kulich, Savoie, Rosen, Östlund and Rousek get to battle for the 5th.

There’s a door, but they’re going to have top step over bodies to walk through it.

skinner won't be a Sabres or will be a candidate for the 14th forward.  So it could be 2 spots that are open

  8. Starting to wonder if we could see 4 to 6 new players on the opening night roster

Tuch, Cozens, Tage, Quinn, Benson , Greenway and JJP are pretty well guaranteed a spot at this point.
my Guess is that Girgs is brought back as well

I could see 3 vet UFAs brought in along with Savoie.  If Kulich was a winger I'd have him with even odds with Savoie to be the 1 prospect to play opening night but since he isn't ill lean towards Savoie

Love the hotdogging use.  I have no problem with Ryan Johnson.  The problem is they have 4 of him that are as good or better.  They need someone that’ll belt ya. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen an NHL d-core so averse to hitting. Ok Clifton might stick ya and Samuelsson uses his body (to his own detriment) but the rest could care less if they touch another human when the play the game of hockey.  I want my Dmen to thirst for that open ice hit.  Waiting at the blue line to knock someone into next week.

Instead we got 7 guys that want to dance and play twister.  It’s disgraceful and not what blue collar fans from WNY want to see.  How hard is it for anyone involved in the organization to recognize this and make amends?

I dont think you should speak for an entire region and i would argue they mostly want to see a winning team   look back at the 05-06 team, not exactly the broad street bullies but they are the most revered team in franchise history.

Was Gilbert Perreault a blue collar player? Lafointaine or Mogliny ?

What I am saying is I don't give a FLYING F#CK about how many great prospects we have or their stats or how our cupboard is full (again) or any of that. All I care about is what's on the NHL roster and about the Sabres making and winning in the playoffs.

If salivating over future prospects gives you some solace and relief from having to endure the longest non playoff streak in pro sports well good for you, but to me it's meaningless.

Get back to me when he actually does it.

I'm not saying he won't, just that he really hasn't done that much yet. Let's see if he can stay healthy first.

Then why didn't you say this from the start?  You started by saying "Too many of the same/similar guy. This is pretty much Adam's draft history."  Which really has nothing to do with what you are trying to say.
    anyways.  Let's move on.

His drafting is excellent when his draft picks are on the NHL roster, not before.

Given how high we draft and how many picks he has had it would take great skill to fail miserably.

Peterka was a home run. No question. Quinn so far isn't any better than several of the picks around him. He's certainly not a steal and may not be the best pick at that time either. Benson looks like a steal. I've said before he was projected top 5, fell due to his size (I guess) and it was a good draft so he did well there. The rest? Some of them look good. Might be good. I'm not praising him or any of them until they play regularly as Sabres.

what the heck does this mean?  are you saying Savoie who just led the WHL in Pts/game isnt excellent

Or Kulich who has 51 goals in the AHL before the age of 20??

btw here is the list of goals by prospects under the age of 20 in the AHL

    1) Kulich 51 G (119GP)

    2) Nylander   32 (75GP)

    3) Fiala     29  (70GP)

    4) Peterka    28 (7gp)

    how is this not excellent?

What's your point? Pick out the few guys who are different and claim you've proven something? How many tough physical defensive defensemen does this team have? How many solid 2 way forwards? How many actual grinders? Go ahead, take your time. You want to argue let's argue.

you are moving the goalposts from the original post where you said he keeps drafting the same type of player over and over

I'm saying that Adams has drafted multiple versions of the same guy (at any position) and that's the team we have. Lots of the same guy all over but he has not filled the holes with the complimentary pieces the team needs. Most of the people we have weren't drafted by Adams, I know that. But he hasn't traded  for what we need either. Byram was mentioned here by others and that's a perfect example. More of the same.

can you give examples? seems to me that his drafting has been excellent so far in each draft.

Watching Rochester in the D zone vs Buffalo in the D zone is like night and day. Buffalo moves the puck smartly behind the net and the forwards will attack the the man with the puck. Rochester plays a very passive defense that closes into a tight box and waves sticks at players. The only reason Rochester is where they are right now is Levi, and the best D man they have is Nikita Novikov. What steal the Sabres got by drafting him in the 6th round. The expectation was he wanted to stay in Russia but when war breaks out plans change. Lindy is going to take him over Johnson because we have a lot of players like Johnson but we don't have big shut down D men like Nikita.

    ummm  whats Samuelsson?

Too many of the same/similar guy. This is pretty much Adam's draft history. Johnson doesn't impress me so I have no issue with him sent down to develop. He still has a lot to learn about playing D. (as do many of the D men on the roster). As to the title of the thread, wasting? screwed up? The expectation that he was ready to step into the NHL is the only screwed up thing. Heck, Power's not ready either.

first of all, Adams didn't draft Johnson who is a 6'1 195lbs

Second  here are the Dmen drafted by Adams

    1) Power 6'5
    2) Novikov  6'3
    3) Lindgren 6'0
    4) Strbak   6'2
    5) McCarthy 6'2
    6) Keohane  6'4
    7) Panocha 6'2

who are the guys that are same / similar drafted by Adams?

  16. I feel the hire of Ruff is pretty well the death shot for Skinners career as a Sabres. He might not get traded but unless there are injuries to Benson and JJP (or regression), Skinner should get used to eating popcorn in the press box.

Whether you’re elated or deflated about this hiring, I can’t wait to see how Lindy handles Skinner, and what Jeff Skinner shows up for the Sabres next year…

I don't think Skinner will be here come training camp.   Can't help think that a lot of the players were talking about skinner when they spoke of their hope  of a coach holding players accountable.

Once the shock of the incompetence of this hiring wears off, I'll be Lindy's biggest fan.  I just can't believe Adams didn't even kick some (other) tires before pulling the trigger.

You don't know who he called and spoke to?   We wanted an experienced, passionate, no nonsense coach and they got one

Don't be miserable just for the sake of being miserable

I don't care who you interview, there isn't a coach out there that wants to win for the city of Buffalo any greater than Lindy does.

People told me he was washed last year and would be a horrible signing. Sometimes I get the feeling people on message boards don’t know everything.😜

You mean the ones that said they drafted the wrong player from the Ottawa 67 a few years ago? Or The ones that thought the Bills drafted the wrong Josh? Or The message boards that wanted Dahlin traded? And Thompson waived? The message boards that wanted UPL cut? The ones that said Mitts was a bust ?  Or do you mean the current boards that want Power traded?

I think you might be onto something , that there are a lot of posters (often myself included) that have don't have a clue
