As fans of both the Sabres and Pirates it is apparent that you have masochistic tendencies. 😀 Or maybe you are just frugal and seek cheap tickets in an arena and stadium where you have plenty of room to stretch out because the seats around you are vacant?

The only good news i can think of is that I'm 55 now , so death isn't too far away.     😂😂😂

  2. As a Canadian, I’d be pretty nervous about border patrol checking my phone—mostly because they’d discover that I’m still a die-hard Sabres fan after all these years, and probably question my sanity. 😂

A few years ago, I actually decided not to spend another penny on the Sabres until they prove they’re no longer a Mickey Mouse franchise.

As for crossing the border, my son and I are also Pirates fans (yes, we cheer for both the Sabres and the Pirates 🤦‍♂️). We thought about catching a game or two this year, but coordinating the trip would’ve been a headache. Add in the possibility of hassles at the border, and we figured it just wasn’t worth it.

Just sign him and be done with it. Place Byram next to Dahlin. Kesselring next to Power. Timmons can be a 5/6 that can be elevated to top 4 if either of them get injured. And the team still hasn’t addressed the what if Dahlin goes down for 1-2 weeks? We going to go on a new losing streak? At least with Byram and the newcomers, maybe we can go 0.400-0.500 during these games.

100% agree.  Keeping Byram now, gives them more time to see if Quinn or Rosen can step up and fill a role in the top 9

    im optimistic about Quinn still

Play Byram next to Dahlin, his numbers will look great and drive up his trade value.  if Quinn doesn't rebound , then you will have a market for Byram

That's a fantasy.  Wait too long and the offers dry up as teams look elsewhere and/or they run out of cap space.  Eventually, you run out of suitors and then you are left with having to re-sign a player who doesn't want to be here.  This what happened with both Ullmark and Reinhart.  Maybe he just signs a 1 year deal and forces Adams to trade him at the deadline or next off-season (his last as an RFA).  Regardless, better trade him now while there is a market for his services.

There are very few teams with cap issues.

  5. Imagine the hope they would create if they traded next years first rounder (lottery protected of course) for a legit NHL player?

it won't happen though.  Sabres are a draft and develop team. bottom feeders for the rest of the league

only real hope is to luck into the playoffs on the back of a goalie that gets hot for A couple of months.

  6. You trade him and create a hole you can't fill on D. Sign him for 2 years, play him with Dahlin.  See what happens

As for the forwards.  The Sabres are a draft and develop team it's time for one of their high draft picks to grab the bull by the horns and take a spot in the top 6

Quinn - we know he can do it. Hopefully becomes the player we thought he would be prior to injuries

or Rosen -  This is it for him.  Hopefully not a tweener (AHL / NHL) but he has to show it this year

Helenius - has a shot, they said he was close coming into last year... probably starts in AHL but hopefully takes a big step forward

More likely the Sabres are the ones doing some crazy spending of FAs to compensate of the lack of playoffs and sign a bunch of mediocre players to big deals so their PR team can go into overdrive trying to convince everyone they struck Gold. KA would probably stay away from signing RFAs because it would cost them precious picks and would risk someone potentially doing it to one of his precious prospects....

Sabres and crazy spending?  You've been following along during the Pegula era , right?

as for RFA's.  The Sabres would need to target this

    "First- and Third-Round Picks:

If the AAV is between $4,680,077 and $7,020,113, the compensation is a first- and third-round pick."
as they don't own their 2nd round pick next year

  8. Isn't Marner to Vegas basically a done deal?  The only reason he would have a conversation with The Sabres is so that he can leverage them to sign elsewhere

hopefully there will be some crazy spending tomorrow on a weak UFA crop and some teams will get themselves in a position where it's difficult to sign their RFA's.  That's where Buffalo needs to come in with an offer sheet

I understand the Eichel move, Pegula poisoned that relationship (from Eichel himself on a podcast.) There was no reason for Reinhart to be traded other than KA was selling the long rebuild for job security.

And Weave already mentioned it, but using the Tank as a means to rebuild was just ***** stupid!

I might have to not come back until preseason. Every word I read about these turkeys just get s me more and more angry.

    Completely disagree.

you give 25 NHL mgmt teams / owners Dahlin, Eichel, Reinhart and Thompson (not to mention Ullmark) and they turn that into a legit contender for playoffs every year.   At least 10, turn them into cup contenders.

The basketball comparison that you made is relevant and applicable to hockey, and all team sports. You have to have a sufficient supporting cast for your star/s in order to attain championships. And, as you point out, you need a wise coach who can fit the pieces together.

You need the biggest stars on your team in the NBA to win because if you have the stars you have the refs

    NHL doesn't work that way

I think you are missing the point of my post.  The assumption that we had competent ownership means the decision to tear down to nothing doesn’t get made and likely a team like Arizona finishes dead last instead, and oor rebuild core does not contain Sam or Jack.

Let's pretend a new owner with competent mgmt and coaching came in during the 2019-20 season.

That’s the biggest thing. People will talk about development until the cows come home and neglect to mention we traded Eichel at 24 - he wasn’t close to being in orbit in fact he was just launching his prime. People will ask “how didn’t you win with Jack Sam and ROR?” when non-ELC Jack and Sam never played with him

    Anyways, I’ll say C

Should be noted: the leafs were the second best team this year. Only one team gave Florida a true test

Leafs got dominated when the Panthers decided to play their game

Also, Let's not forget Bob wasn't on his game for the first 2 either

Competent ownership means “the extent of the rebuild” would not have been a tear it down to nothing effort. Who knows if we even draft Sam and Eichel at that point?

The team wouldn’t look like you think it would.  Everything would be very different.

When you have a core of Eichel; Tage, Reinhart and Dahlin the tank worked to perfection

unfortunately they couldn't figure out the 2nd part and that's how to rebuild out of it

  13. Just watched the Reinhart interview minutes after winning the cup

can't help for smile and feel good for that guy

though it's always going to tough not to think "what might have been"

Both Eckel and Reinhart are great players, but the difference between their failures in Buffalo and successes after Buffalo are directly related to their surrounding cast. Florida and Las Vegas built winning rosters, winning coaching and winning management. It is what it is.

that's why I specifically said " let's Assume the Sabres had competent ownership, mgmt and coaching.

Or are you saying it would have been impossible for them to get to the level of players they've become if they stayed in Buffalo?   If that's the case how do you explain Tage's progress and  Dahlin becoming one of the top defenders in the league

Not to mention both Sam and Jack were pretty good as Sabres and neither had hit their "prime" before being traded away
