I think the Sabres have an advantage behind the bench. After watching the Olympics, I'd much rather have Lindy behind my teams bench than Laviolette!
-
i would think the back to back games would have to hurt the team that is back on it's heels anyway, plus emery got friggin LUCKY last night with all the posts and whiffed shots. i can't believe i am saying something optimistic, but i gotta think the sabres put up at least 5 goals tonight. i am thinking it ends up about 5-3.
The Swordsmen got a little lucky in the last 5 seconds of the third period last night.

Let's make May 2, 2006 one of our favorite days for reminiscing in the future!
-
He'll play.
and provide a HIGHLIGHT goal to open the scoring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Wow!!! What a day! I remember all those games except the first one. I thought John Van Boxmeer scored that goal against the Islanders, but you know what they say about memory :P
I suspect PA will have a Boxy call in a couple of days - likely a big goal against the Isles in the playoffs.
What's that?
Boxy did score a huge goal in the series. Stay tuned.
Oops - my bad. I should read before replying.

5-0!!! Flyers are getting Umbergered!!!

PTR That quote belongs in the RJ/Ted Darling Hall of Fame!!!!!!!!!

1993: Wow, it's great to go up 1-0 but it has still been 10 years since we won a series, we were horrible down the stretch and these arte the "Big, Bad Bruins". I can't imagine this series will provide any real lasting memories for Sabres fans!
-
Maybe we can call someone up and leave that bum Brad May off the playoff roster.
-
I would love to be able to go in the Aud one more time and just walk around for a couple of hours. What great memories.
Can I join you?
-
While the Sabres top my personal memory agenda "The Aud" truly was a special place that provided many memories and bonds growing up. Sitting in the "grays", watching Braves games, and my introduction to another love - college basketball with the Little 3 doubleheaders. Little did I know that watching Calvin Murphy play for Niagara and Bob Lanier as a Bona Brown Indian wasn't your "average" college player.
-
I had forgotten about the stick measurement, but I can still see the shot!
-
April 1973: Anyone think we have a chance to take the Habs - maybe even an OT win - and force a game six at the Aud?
-
Boy I hated the best of 5 format. Wasn't J.F. Sauve related to Bob?
J.F. was in the league twenty-five years too early, he skated around like a waterbug, and was perfect for the larger ice surface in Quebec, he would be a star in today's league, but was too small and not strong enough for most of the hockey then played in the Adams.
Best of 5 was bad BUT the best of 3 was horrible. I still have nightmares of Ed Staniowski standing on his head and very nearly eliminating a much superior Sabres squad after stealing game one.
-
I don't care if the Habs go up 3-0, I'll bet the Swordsmen don't get swept!
I remember an entire city looking forward to the first NHL playoff game in Buffalo.
-
Sniff, sniff. Yep, I smell it too. April is a great month for hockey memories. It is the cruelest month, they say. Hope springs eternal. And it snows.
Mike, wow you are old. I don't even remember these early years.
WOW that cold splash was refreshing! I guess it's all relative. Like Rock I was up past my bedtime watching the game.
-
I feel an OT winner by "ROBERT ...RENE ROBERT" coming up!
-
I remember the 72 game against the Flyers well. It was almost as if we had made the playoffs for the first time ever when we knocked the Flyers out with seconds left in the season! Just another year and we'd "win" a race with the Red Wings for the final spot in the east and get to meet the Habs!
-
And in the Spectrum on 3/30/81 Isiaeh Thomas led the Hoosiers to the NCAA basketbal title. Knight got another title and once again denied Dean Smith his first.
-
This is one of the very few losses in "this day in Sabre history." I guess we aren't undefeated for 1970-Spring 2006!
-
PA- What NHL team was in Colorado in '79? I didn't think that Denver had hockey until Quebec moved there in the 90s.
The KC Scouts were the Colorado Rockies for a few years before they became the Devils I believe.
-
:P :P
The Boston Bruins! Just what the doctor ordered!
:D  B-)
I hope so - remember even the Sens have lost to the Sabres once this season. Anyway, I'll leave the game up to you guys - this Tiger season ticket holder has a college basketball game out in Oakland to pay attention to at the same time.
-
While I always enjoyed hockey I remember the battle with the Wings for a playoff spot well. Winning it, and then not getting swept by the Habs may well have been a significant factor in making this young kid a true Sabre fan with a mild interest in the Braves, a significant feat considering I could get a ticket to virtually any Braves game but Sabre tix were hard to come by. You had to hustle to get an open practice ticket !

Incredibly tough to believe. 'Cause it's been 17.
Thanks - I'll sign off and take my remedial math class!

I was 2 years old when the Malarchuk incident happened, so I obviously couldn't see it, or at least can't remember seeing it live. Just reading that description of what happened makes me squirm.
If anyone has any video of the incident online, I would greatly appreciate seeing it.
I'm not so sure you would. It was truly a "real life invades sports" moment. Hard to believe it has been 27 years.
Eastern Conference Finals, Carolina Hurricanes (2) vs. Buffalo Sabres (4)

Whether endurance was a factor or not is simply hindsight BUT the Sabres did NOT look good playing a 2d game in two days (game 4) against Ottawa to our chagrin (at the time).
I think that at this point of the playoffs you have two good teams, each playing well. Bounces will be the key. Which team takes advantage on the power play. Which team gets a break like the Dumont knuckle puck to win an ot game, etc.
OOH, AAH, SABRES ON THE WARPATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
