Agreed, but you can't. I'd rather have lots of players. I think I can have this one. I don't think Chicago is kicking themselves over Hossa's contract, and even with the bad year, I think Boston is ok with Lucic's contract. That number is not what some teams would pay a 25 goal scorer, it's what good teams pay 25 goal scorers.

True. I guess I look at is as, the WORST that can be expected from Thomas is 25 goals a year for the next 4-5 years. That's probably a $6M player. So worst case, he's a $2M cap drane. I'm ok with that risk. 6 years out, the cap will be much higher, and this impact will be significantly less relevant. I understand your point.

My concern is that none of these players wanted to come here, and all had the ability to prevent it. We do have the ability to resign Vanek. We may find it impossible to replace him.

We should go pick up Tambellini . He is outstanding at landing the #1 overall pick. Which seems to be the goal of many here on the board. :ph34r:

You'd be putting up a for sale sign. He's 8th right now in Goals per game (again, I do think he takes a hit for the mild injuries almost every year). This is what he will be paid against. Compare to recent contracts for Mikko Koivu or Alexander Semin. He's a better goal scorer than both. He is not as good as Corey Perry, so it will be between 7.75 and 8.25. And it will be max term. Either you're willing to pay Thomas, or a player like him, more than what you are offering with 4 by 7, or you are not interested in having a player like that on the team. Maybe it's something specifically about Vanek you don't like?

Looking at the TOI report, the Flynn-Porter-Ott line was matched up against the Stamkos-St. Louis Line all night. They did a fantastic job.

He's going to get a raise. And he's better that Parise, so it will be between 7.75 and 8.25. I'd sign up for that.

TB is still the second highest scoring team in the league at 3.1 gpg and was averaging above that for April (7 games) heading into yesterday's game. I think Vanek is just done with this year, I think he signs an extension this summer 8 by 8.
