This is the gamble. I'm betting that by 2019, when Thomas turns 35, the cap is at or above $85M (assumes just shy of 5% growth) so the $3-4M your over paying him at that point isn't hurting too much.

Show me the LW better than Vanek that we can have on this team in the next 2-3 years, and I'll change my mind. Just were else are you going to spend this money? Isle play their last home game tonight. then a 5 game roadie, finishing up in buffalo. Best the Sabres can do is to win their next 4 and hope that game means something. Rangers could potentially factor in at some point, but they have an extra game in hand. We'd need NJ to get their heads out of their arses for that them to come into play.

He makes 25x more money sitting in the press box in buffalo than he does with a natural hat-trick on a five-point night in Rochester. Of course practicing with the NHL club is better!

Is there any way to find out if they sent him to the Amerks and then immediately used their last call-up? I think that would make him eligible to play in the AHL playoffs after the NHL reg season is complete.
