  1. Yes, I was illustrating that fact as a pre-requisite for and the reason why republicans want to allow the purchase across state lines. Ironically, it would effectively eliminate the ability of states to regulate there own insurance as all the companies would simply move the the least strict state.
  2. Without the mandate, the black bold parts can't work. You cannot just add the sick (pre-existing conditions) and people who are only paying a small marginal premium (kids to 26) without getting a bunch of young healthy people into the system. They are absolutely linked. The mandate allows the elimination of pre-existing condition denials). To the blue, tort reform is definitely a part of a solution, but it's a very small part of it in terms of dollars. Purchasing across state lines is a terrible idea. The only advantage here is if you let each state write it's own regulations. Then a few insurers would buy a small state legislature and write their own pro-business regulations. It was done with the credit card industry (that's why everyone is in South Dakota) and it destroyed any semblance of consumer rights and fairness. The same would happen with healthcare. Very little would be covered, sick people would be prohibitively expensive to insure, and no one would benefit except the for-profit insurers.
  3. Just got my 3D Printer. It's better than christmas.
  4. Can't wait. But permanence is rare, and becoming more rare each day.
  5. it's fuzzy, I figure Kennedy Assassination to Reagan Election. Don't forget that all those testosterone driven traders that built the financial disaster were x-ers working for boomers. Those guys made millions.
  6. The oldest GenX-ers turn 49 this year, right?
  7. I feel bad for Genx, all the same problems, but educated pre-internet, so they missed the single most important tool.
  8. You don't need to have faith, it will happen, it probably already has. Could be additive manufacture (3D printing), fusion, quantum computing, or some much simpler social technology like sustainable eating. Wages, on the other hand, might be an outdated technology. Who knows how they'll morph in the coming years.
  9. Technology tends to mitigate the impacts of the excess of previous generations. The Haber Process and Synthetic fertilizers saved the world from the craptastic farming practices of the early 20th century and our propensity to procreate beyond our current means. Nuclear Fission, Semiconductors, and Drilling technology have saved the world from the "let's take all the easy hydro-carbons out of the earth as quickly as possible" mentality of the mid 20th century. There are other examples, but it's reasonable to assume that we will meet our generations challenges with the same adaptability that has allowed our species to be the only one capable of inhabiting the entire planet and beyond.
  10. This is it.
  11. Yeah, sorry, I really just wanted to make the racist-obviously not racist commentary.
  12. Damn it I forgot to add the sarcastic wink. My bad.
  13. How 1950s of you to put Obama in the back of the bus. ;-) Disclaimer: you are obviously in no way making a statement based on any real or even legitimately perceived racial bias. Your statement is an assessment of the GOP's position of power in late summer 2009, it is neither a reference to the events preceding the bus boycotts of the 1960s nor a reference to the racial or ethnic heritage of the President of the United States. My comment is meant as a satirical parody of a phenomenon known colloquially as "race baiting". This comment should not be interpreted as an instance of said phenomenon, but rather as a satirical indictment of such actions. Glass Case of Emotion and any of his affiliates should not be held liable for any other poster incorrectly interpreting this comment by failure to read the attach disclaimer.
  14. Outstanding.
  15. They started throwing up roadblocks as soon as they got to 41 with Brown. There was never a compromise to be had.
  16. Why are you bring up evangelical zealotry?
  17. Giving up on self government?
  18. Ayn Rand Paul 4eva!!
  19. And that is socialism in the European style. The tax will be called a VAT and it is an incredibly effective money pump.
  20. You know I'm not arguing against the idea. I'm trying to point out to weave that his knickers might be a little pinker than he thinks.
  21. My understanding is that he wanted to tax the corporations to pay for a social welfare program. I may have misunderstood. It's all in degrees. To many, taxes are a means of control.
  22. Almost the definition of socialism.
  23. Part of the reason nys plans are more $ than pa plans is that nys plans are required by law to cover therapy for Autism Spectrum at no additional cost. Essentially, your plan is more expensive because my kid needs a specialist four days a week. This is just one example. There are other mandated benefits that make the nys plan more expensive, but also better. I've said this before, but an income-tax funded national health plan would be the biggest boost to American Manufacturing since the invention of the lightbulb.
  24. Dammit. Why does this have get going on a day when I'm tied up. I'm missing all the fun!
  25. The 5v5 numbers on that page don't make any sense. They have miller at .925 for 5v5, but he's .926 overall, which would mean he would have to have a BETTER save % on the pk than even strength. We are missing something about those numbers.
