  1. Fascinating; I am sure those that have the aptitude for the language of physics will eventually find the combination that opens the door. Thanks Iknowphysics; this thread has been fun. I am really excited about the discoveries that will be made in the next couple of years. Wow, exciting times we live in.
  2. Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to respond to the thread; I know you didn't have to but I am glad you did. I was in no way suggesting that you were closed minded; the fact that you have pursued physics certainly speaks for itself. When I started the thread it was for fun and titled the thread specifically to spark interest in it; like you said I do have an interest in sciency stuff. Because the world is changing at such an expedential pace, I like to put things out there to see what other people's opinions are on any given subject. In the last several years I recognized splashes of cold fussion ideas in the media; however, I've never heard of anyone that made claims that they might have solved the mystery. When I found articles that suggested that a team of independent scientists etc had stuck their necks on the line to evaluate Rossi's claim, it sparked some interest. I don't know about you but when I hear claims like Rossi's I think its fun to extrapolate out a bit and consider the global and local ramifications should cold fussion become a reality. Certainly you would have to agree with me that if cold fussion was to become a reality then our lives would be changed forever. There seems to be a laundery list of entities MIT, NASA, etc all trying to crack the code if it can be cracked, and they do this because they "believe" it is a possibility. You said belief doesn't have anything to do with it, and I would have to suggest that "believing" that we have not discovered all there is to know about science, math, religion, life, marriage, etc keeps life fresh and sometimes drives people to greater hieghts in their quest to find answers. Believing is the corner stone of every invention; Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and many others along the way believed that they could make a difference; as a result, they were driven to great inventions. “Wisdom is not a product of schooling but of the lifelong attempt to acquire it.” —Albert Einstein --- To J. Dispentiere – March 24, 1954. AEA 59–495 “The more success the quantum theory has, the sillier it looks.” —Albert Einstein --- To Heinrich Zangger – May 20,1912. AEA 39–655 “I believe the most important mission of the state is to protect the individual and make it possible for him to develop into a creative personality….” —Albert Einstein --- From address to the Disarmament Conference of 1932 (1931). Reprinted in Ideas and Opinions, 95. I personally believe that our world is on the verge of some of the greatest advances in science that mankind has ever seen. When I spoke about believing I was not narrowly defining belief in the context of religion only, and if that is how it came off then that is my fault. I simply wanted to point out that we don't know everything, and at the point that we think we do, generally we end up looking foolish. Finally, Albert Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.” Quoted in interview by G.S. Viereck , October 26,1929. Reprinted in “Glimpses of the Great”(1930). If Rossi is found to be a charlatan then in time he will be found out. In the mean time; I am going to keep believing that are world can be a better place and that new discoveries are going to be made by people willing to believe there is more to come. Question: I understand "WP isn't a catalyst in the presence of hydrogen"; however, if hydrogen is confined to a small area and under extreme pressure would it not eventually combust, if combustion takes place would it leave behind water, and if WP was in the prescence of that water could it also react? I was trying to use my imagination. Sorry for any spelling or grammatical errors, I don't have time to make corrections.
  3. I think your right, we don't know yet; however, there are some people out the putting their reputations on the line, and in the interest of science, I have to believe that they will get to the bottom of this. As for the equation, LOL, just having fun with it. It has been said that the catalyst used in Rossi's invention is unknown; I was playing with the idea that came out of my high school days when we ignited hydrogen which left a residual mosture as a result; moreover, I believe we took phosphorus and put in water which caused it to react. My attempt at illustrating science was inept; however, my focus of my response was to the harsh judgmental response of IKnowPhysics, and the attack on the Mr. Rossi's character. If IKnowPhysics knows Andrea Rossi personally and has personal knowledge of Mr. Rossi's impropriaty then I apologize. It all seemed a bit self righteous to me.
  4. "Physicist here", have you met Andrea Rossi, do you know him personally? Pretty judgmental for someone who doesn't know everything, or maybe you are omniscient, and in that case I will call you god. I don't believe that cold fussion is an illusion that cannot be obtained. (P) Pressure + (H) Heat + (P) Polarity + (E) The proper elements = Reaction Everytime I'm no scientist; however, create enough pressure you can create heat, ignite hydrogen you get water, add in the catylist White Phosporus (Commonly known as the Morning Star or Light Bearer) and voila, you get a super nova effect at the atomic level; minipulate the polarity of the elements and who knows you just might get a reaction. Granted I don't know Shi* from Shinola about science or physics; however, I am smart enough to know that there is an X Factor called the unexpalinable. There is a segment of the scientific community that would love to "believe" that everything can be explained by science and math; however, I am not one of them. People have made harsh judgments about those who would step out into the realm of the seemingly impossable and have presented scientific breakthroughs that have benifited mankind. Many of these men and women have been called charlatans, quacks, crazy, etc....;however, many times that is our response when we cannot explain something outside the scope of our understanding. Man loves to be in control; however, when man cannot be in control or has an incomplete understanding, many times it produces an ugly response. Can I say that Andrea Rossi's invention is legitamate? At this point I think I will take the wait and see approach because time has a wonderful way of exposing us all. Someone said that Andrea Rossi has refused to have his experiment evaluated by his peers; however, on May 16, 2013 a report was published by his peers. "Published on May 16, the paper titled “Indication of anomalous heat energy production in a reactor device” would appear to deliver what we wanted. The paper was authored by Giuseppe Levi of Bologna University, Bologna, Italy; Evelyn Foschi, Bologna, Italy; Torbjörn Hartman, Bo Höistad, Roland Pettersson and Lars Tegnérof Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden; and Hanno Essén, of the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. While some of these people have previously been public in their support of Rossi and the E-Cat they are all serious academics with reputations to lose and the paper is detailed and thorough." I find it difficult to believe that those that authored the report would put their reputations on the line for quack science. I am just saying maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge.
  5. Recently, the evaluation of Rossi’s cold fusion reactor has been indeed verified by an independent group of scientists formed by Giuseppe Levi and Evelyn Foschi from the University of Bologna, Torbjörn Hartman, Bo Höistad, Roland Pettersson and Lars Tegnér from the University of Uppsala, Sweden and Hanno Essén from the Royal Institute of Technology of Stockholm. The group published an independent study whose results can be checked here. Their conclusions show that even in the worst case scenarios, Rossi’s cold fusion reactor generates 10 times more energy than any other source currently exploited by the human kind. NASA is also studying the same approach with its Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR). The numbers show the E-cat has a power density of 4.4 x 105 W/kg and an energy density of 5.1 x 107 Wh/kg. This means that it generates 10,000 more energy than gasoline and has 1,000 times its power density. Nevertheless, Rossi’s critics are still continuing to ask for a new investigation, this time performed in an independent laboratory, as they say the tests performed could have been intentionally flawed by the inventor in his own location. If the experiment will prove itself true, humanity has discovered something better than a gold mine. NASA says we only need 1 percent of the nicked extracted worldwide each year to power our entire planet with energy at a quarter of the price of coal (now the cheapest). So, in the wake of electric car domination (hopefully), we can hope there’s a new source of energy that can power them besides batteries and fuel cells, and that is the long-awaited cold fusion. http://www.greenoptimistic.com/2013/06/03/andrea-rossi-cold-fusion-works/#.Ub9wWNiyIY1
  6. Cornell University was very interested in Andrea Rossi's E-Cat demonstration. http://arxiv.org/abs/1305.3913
  7. Mr. Pegula makes a lot of money drilling for natural gas; however, his world and the lives of everyone on this planet may change forever very soon. Inventor Andrea Rossi has made cold fussion a 21st century reality since his E-Cat unit has been independently tested. Mr. Rossi's invention is said to produce a significant amount of clean heat energy. This invention will significantly reduce the need for fossel fuel; however, as dynamic as this may sound, this invention will truely upset the balance of power, and I am not sure that those who retain that power will be willing to give it up. Have fun with this one. http://www.forbes.co...ange-after-all/ http://www.pureenerg...fered-for-free/
  8. Ruhwedel looks like he is going to be a good player for Buffalo.
  9. Scott won a foot race for a puck. :worthy: Good job Weber!
  10. Porter Lots of time; 2 more boy's Let's Go Buffalo!
  11. Ray is talking about double shifting the skilled forwards. Vanek?
  12. Its hard to say; I think it goes on those who missed the wide open nets.
  13. The check on Pardy started it all; Crap!
  14. Missed a wide open net for the 3rd time tonight.
  15. If Scott would drop some weight and work on his game a bit like Gaustad did, I would love to see him a regular 4th liner on this team. Scott was a lot meaner and leaner when he played for the Wild.
  16. This is the kind of hockey Buffalo needs to play if they are going to get back on track. Way to finish the checks boy's; Let's Go Buffalo!
