  1. Ok then if thats the case I'm confused cause I liked what they said yesterday about him going down, going to Spengler and coming back. Something weird here now. Isn't the team going to Sweeden? So where are we sending him down to? Nobody will be there.

  2. Pysyk is getting a raw deal from Nolan imo, he's been steady save a few plays here n there through the year. Even the best defensemen get beat once in a while.

I don't think thats how it is intended. And I'm willing to bet thats now Pysyk is taking it.

Kid: we want you to go down get experience and you're going to play in the Spengler Cup. When it's over you're coming back to Buffalo and will remain here as long as your performance merits it.

    Kid: Cool!

Not sure if you heard Nolan say that he won't be down long but he did. This is all positive if you can past not seeing him here for a few weeks. This can only improve him and I think this is a great move on their part.

  3. I think the mess is the results of incompetence, not weasel-ness.

It seems to me that with Cody signing he was trying to repeat the past ala Derek Roy menaing this train would end up the same train wreck as the last one he built.

Do you think he is now at home in a dark room watching the tire fire and giggling? Weasel.

  4. I'm not in the camp that is head over heels with. I'm often left wondering what others see in him. Me, I see a bigger Rhuedel and I'm not impressed with him. So that speaks for itself I guess unless you are also in the camp of those that think Chad Rheudil or whatever is going to be an NHL d man. I don't. Darcy did. He's not here anymore.

I am. Now mind you I'm not saying that he doesn't have a role. He does. He is pretty slick at moving the puck up. I like that. But with our forwards who are loathe to backcheck to the net to help the D out, that means I need someone who clears the net out on their own.

God Speed Nikita. We need you back at full man! Soon!

  5. Just a quick note on Moulson. Right now he is shooting at .214% where as his average is .141% thus I would expect his scoring pace to slow and regress towards his average. Note that his season high sh% since he made it full time is .164%

For those of you who are math challenged like myself it means that currently Moulson is scoring on 21.4 out of 100 shots where as his average is 14.1 out of 100. Roughly speaking for a guy who takes a little over 200 shots a year this means he is on pace to score 10more goals than average. That seems unlikely but he could theoretically do it.

At his current pace based on shot percentage he would net 46.8goals on 218.6shots.

If you used his average shot percentage (.141) he would have 30.8goals and if you used his best (.164) 35.8goals. Both of which are very probable given his last 3 full seasons and even counting the lockout shortened season from last year.

Edit: Note that if you used his current GPGA he would get roughly 54.6goals this season which IMPO is not plausible.

    Math Smath.

All that jumbo adds up to a simple well known formula that occurs when guys start performing above their career average. Contract year! Simple math really.

  6. What? Tavares is elite level talent who Vanek is playing with.....

Vaneks play will be raised and Moulsons will be lowered, Moulson is by no stretch a better overall player than Vanek. No hockey person on the planet belives that. Including all of the GMs in the NHL. Which is obvious since we also got a 1st and 2nd round pick in addition to him in the deal.

I am willing to bet Vaneks play is not raised. In fact I'm willing to bet he is about to go into one of his patented ten games or so dissapearing acts. Only this time with Elite talent in Long Island while Moulson just keeps trucking like his same old self. The two guys spots are not going to change.

  7.

I think the most likely explanation is that (i) the Islanders' budget did not permit them to re-sign Moulson, (ii) they really want to try to win at least one round in the playoffs this year and were willing to sacrifice the value they would've gotten for Moulson at the deadline and (iii) they figured that Vanek is better than Moulson and, by the same logic, they were willing to sacrifice the extra draft picks to have Vanek for the rest of the season as opposed to Moulson.

I think that if the Islanders are on the playoff bubble or better at the deadline they will not trade Vanek and they will lose him to free agency after the season.

Sounds to me like a losing plan to me. And if their on the bubble Van did them no good whatsoever! Hey wait a minute we....

  8.

You will be in a month

I dont either and it was for sure a good move and impressive fleecing of the Isles but Vanek is going to thrive there. We are going to see how impressive he could have been with elite talent.

He isn't going to playing with ELITE talent here. He's playing with Cody Freaking Hodgson. You cant have it both ways . A month from now I will not be surprised that NEITHER Vanek nor Moulsons game has been raised or lowered because of who they are playing with now. Moulson, is a better overall player and brings more to this team than Vanek. Today or a month from now.

Meh. I hope we see Isles fans talking about how lazy Vanek is. I hope he looks like Drew Stafford wearing blue and orange.

LOL and what makes them think he will play with heart anyway? He's not in it for the mponey and evidently left his heart in Minny. Love the Stafford comparison but can youo imagine the meltdown in Long Island should that happen? Johnny T may personally threaten Vanek!

Seriously though I cant imagine Vanek tanks there. Moulson has more to lose being a contract year and must perform so it's a win for us and Van.

It also makes it seem less likely that they offer Vanek the moon and the stars to re-sign, innit? I.e. if they were concerned enough to negotiate for $1.3MM in cash relief, they are probably not inclined to offer Vanek a $60MM+ extension.

Doesn't that make this trade all the more a head scratcher from their side? So as someone pointed out the best they can do after realizing he isn't going to sign is to recoup their losses and blow any chance they had at re signing Moulson at the same time? Less they truly believe that Vanek plays lights out with Johnny T and they better their playoff berth and don't face Pittsburgh and get into the second round. I don't know. I just don't know.

    FIRE SNOW!!! :-)

  9. Leadership, maybe. He's very responsible in his own end.

This I think is the major draw back to Moulson is that he isn't as much of a two-way guy. Vanek definitely is better in his own end.

I may give Vanek the nod being better in his own end. But coming back to his own end he is most definately not better. So I'll take this guys point production and ability for far less money than Vanek gets and probably a much better guy in the room too.

I am not missing Vanek. Adios.

  10. I'm really not upset at all about Moulson wearing #26 given Vanek's willingness to always do what's in his best interest. Number one being signing the offer sheet with the Oil seven years ago in order to maximize his earnings and secondly not wanting to hang around the organization as they go through rough waters. I totally understand his mindset in each scenario, but he's not an all time beloved Sabre IMO.

Truly enjoyed him as a Sabre, but he's always kind of had the mercenary attitude. Next!

I agree with all of this. People seem to fail to realize he signed the offer sheet to leave. He was leaving. He didn't come back to the team and say look this is what I've got or anything just signed. So none of the current situation should surprise anyone. I did enjoy some of his time and often felt let down by him. As good as he is you there's more that he can give but chooses to coast etc. Good luck TV.
