  1. Paul Hamilton on WGR right now stating that firing Regier now would be a clown move.

    I agree.

IMHO, The time to fire him was when Terry took over or when Lindy was fired. Firing now would make Pegula look foolish. The man has an ego, he's not goin to expose himself like that.

I don't really want Darcy here, but he's not getting fired now.

Ok you're right about the time on when he should have been fired. He wasn't.

Send in the clowns. Where are the clowns? Well maybe, they're here.

I don't need Darcy making another single decision for this team. Get out.

  2. Actually, I thought it was Brendan Flynn, with an 'a'. Yep, I caught it, too. Nice goal, kid. If every player on the team skated as hard as he did, we might have something in a couple years.

You expect the fans to know the right names? Opening night when they introduced everybody on the team they put up Kyle Porter! Stupid me, I've been calling him Kevin

  3. Not a fan of this decision. It's not what I expected either but oh well. If they can roll it with thats fine.

I dont think this does anything to ensure they stay here either. Vanek will most certainly approach the nine million dollar mark and want five or six years and is gone at the deadline and Ott will want to stay here and will get overpaid at the same time.

  4. I wonder when Peters buddy Laraque is going to get a job? Must just be too old to take a chance on I guess.

And a lot too much of "it's the Leafs, we're supposed to hate them." For what reason, I don't know. Neither team is any danger to the other. About all this rivalry has is Leafs fans coming to Buffalo and being loud.

I think you're wrong. Ask the players about it for the best answer. I think the rivalry is strong and will stay strong. Guys like Ott come to mind. Born in Windsor I believe and will always have an axe to grind against them.

  5. Again, I don't think Vanek is the type of guy who needs a letter to feel good about himself.

I disagree. Tell me he didn't sulk somewhat when he didn't get it. More importantly in the here and now status of THIS team, tell me he doesn't sulk and basically wait it out till he's gone. I think he feels slighted and that's ok as long as he comes to play. However, I believe we do reward and recognize the people that deserve it going forward. Not the people that Lindy feels he can control.

No Lindy is a whole new ball game around here. That said I have also said I'm not interested in paying this man 9 mil per season on a new contract and if that's the case ship him out and don't worry about his feelings. But his sulky play would net us a lot less than a productive happy camper who we plan on shipping out anyway. Even if he knows it.

  6. I want to mea culpa on my previous comments about Vanek. I have not thought of him worthy of even an A while some have suggested a C.

Tonight's performance on this team makes me believe he deserves nothing less than an A and if he were to re sign prior to the start of the season give him the C.

He was a man amongst boys tonight and showed a lot of the traits needed to be Captain. He Hit. He should have scored. He was a GREAT playmaker and had a presence on the ice. A needed presence on the ice. Veteran savy experience. I am on record as saying we DON'T HAVE A CAPTAIN on this team and that scares me.

Forgive me for saying this after observing one live pre season game but that does explain where this team is at. So Vanek deserves something and if we don't at least give him an A I think his feelings are hurt and he is gone. And there in lies the rub. Should your Captain or A be that fragile that his feelings are hurt?

No. Of course not but Darcy/Ruff has painted us into this corner and we have to deal with it.

So I guess my Captaincy is the mix of Vanek, Ott and Weber. And if Vanek declines and is gone than I am putting an A on Myers or Erhoff.

Forgive my spelling errors and any negative feelings you have towards me. A new season is upon us. Lets start fresh.

My starting line is Scott, Kaleta and Girgs. Have a nice day!

  7. I am ambivalent about Vanek getting the C, for the reasons stated above. If the season goes as I expect it will, it will be awkward when the time comes to move your captain at the trade deadline for a second consecutive year.

A lot of talk about Ott and Weber, and I agree that both should be in the mix for letters. A question, though: Is their personal relationship (they're practically brothers) a factor that weighs against placing too much on their shoulders (upper chests)?

Lets make it their room now. I just cant get around the idea of Vanek wearing a C. Ott to a lesser extent because he's always on the edge but I could live with him way before Vanek. Outside of Weber or Ott there isn't anyone on this team that qualifies at this point to me.

  8. And yet you thought Thornton was a key to the Bruins.

Different player in a different situation.

Yea, he's a worse player on a better team.

Not that this is related but I'd take both on my 4th line.

Wait. I'm confused now. Is it that Thornton is worse than Kaleta on a better team? Thornton is better than Kaleta on a worse team? Or is it Kaleta is better than Thornton on a worse team? Or Kaleta is worse Thornton on worse team? The season hasn't even started yet and we don't really know what we're going to be dealing with this right here is giving me mixed signals! :w00t: I'll go with better on a worse team. Whew, feeling better now. Kaleta, I mean.

  9. I agree with what you're saying in that we deserve better on an N.H.L. roster but I'm thinking guys like this are stopgap and role players win you cups. If and when you have the talent to get into the playoffs.

So it's the chicken before the egg, horse before the cart type of thing?

A GM worth his salt would do better. So rather than pick on these players my focus should rightfully be on Darcy. We can all probably agree on that and yet he remains. And remains. So that isn't getting me any traction. In fact I think in a when do you think Darcy gets fired thread I came to the realization that we would have to miss the playoffs the next TWO years for him to finally bite it.

    That's just sad.

Edit: that said I did like our draft. I like a lot of our prospects. And with Darcy I'm just afraid it is rinse, wash, repeat.

But I will also say that I am an optimistic pessimist! If things go bad early, this will be an ugly long season. Conversely, with soo many kids that don't know they're supposed to bad it could be rather entertaining. Having Miller and Vanek around should help the cause.

I'm looking forward to this season because nothing sucked more than last year and I can't imagine even if we are bad this year, the entertainment value for my money could be worse than last year. Well, I hope anyway!

  10. Comparing Flynn to Pominville is nauseating. I mean there's trying to pump your team's tires, and the there's just the absurd.

From one of my all time favorite movies "Outlaw Josey Wales" "don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining".

:clapping: for both of you. Personally I don't want to see Flynn or Porter on this team. Ahl'er and travelling team ace. Maybe that's harsh but for what my tickets cost, I expect better than that on the ice. And stick Matty Ellis on the same bus. Don't get me wrong Flynn had a couple good spots but way more disappearing acts. Porter, steady solid career ahl and perfect teammate to a guy like Matt Ellis. We can do better and should expect much better. Of course we should expect that Darcy would have been relieved of his duties 10 times by now but he is on solid ground.
  11. I can't speak for Inky, but no one here has seen him do a single GD thing at the NHL level. He was a complete non-factor last year. Any expectations that anyone here has for him are based solely on draft hype, not on NHL-level performance (with full respect to SFiNS and anyone else who saw him play a lot in juniors).

You are right that he's young, and that's why I'm not giving up on him yet. But there is no reason to expect him to contribute anything this year.

Well as season ticket holder I will tell you one thing he did last year. He provided the loudest I heard in the arena all season when he scored his first goal. I believe he will be a solid contributor and any deficiency he had should blamed on Darcy. Yes Darcy. Kid should have never been allowed to be utilized like he was and should have been sent down after the coach didn't even dress him in the fourth game if I recall. And even if he surface at the bottom of that list he will be a player for a long time I believe.
