I never said that. I said he wasn’t as good as he thinks he is.

He’s supposed to be elite,… even generational, to some.

We have yet to see him take over a game, something generational players do.

Tonight, he had the puck along the boards, down by one, his only job is to clear the zone. His lazy play ended up in the net. Game over. Not the play of an elite player.

I'm with you. I think. As good as Dahlin is I don't think he's as good as he should be. Not consistently.

I’m not an analytical nerd. A nerd, sure

I try to take a wholistic approach to the data/experience

It’s tough to divine much from our interactions because it mostly just involves you giving my posts eye rolls but yes, if you are the “my expectation is 2024/25 guy”: great. You’ve called your shot. I respect that

In fairness, when I said something nice to you you said it made you uncomfortable and asked for an eye roll 🤪

Ironically, I believe you and I agree on 95% of everything.

Also, I sort of resent the goal post moving, I’m sorry. It makes being around here a bit difficult. What did you say coming into the year? What did we all say? Progress was making the playoffs. That was the expectation. The BARE MINIMUM expectation.

Most, not all. I didn't expect playoffs before 25. I've been as consistent on that as my belief in 6K.

When Ventura and Karmanos were brought in prior to the 21 draft all you analytics nerds creamed your collective panties. You made compelling arguments and sucked me in. I've completely bought into Adams draft and develop strategy. The drafting part is done, but so many want to forego the develop part. "We need grit! We need size! Trade Kulich and Rosen for a 28yo 3rd liner!"

It's ***** idiotic. Everyone's clutching thier pearls about "all of them won't make it!"  Why not?  If Karmanos and Ventura are as great as the nerds say, and given how they are performing post draft, there's no reason to believe they won't make it.

More and more each game.  He is earning a fat contract.  Not the standard 7 x $7M contract though.

    I still say 5 x $5M, maybe 5 x $4.5M.

I think you're a bit high on both term and dollars. I think Adams signs him for three years between 3.5-4M.

He is going to bring back virtually the same roster.

He’ll re-sign UPL, Krebs, Joki and Mitts, elevate Levi to goalie 2 and if KO wants to play again, he’ll re-sign him as well. I also think he’ll re-sign Robinson.   That leaves exactly 2 roster spots; 13th forward and 7th D available for new talent.

He’ll claim that this season was growing pains for the youngest roster in the league.  He’ll state the fans should be optimistic for 24/25 because of the improved defense and goaltending in the second half of this season, the return to health of key forwards and the continued development of young elite talent in Benson, JJP, Quinn, Power, Levi and Ryan Johnson.  He’ll talk about how close to NHL ready star prospects Savoie, Rosen, Kulich and Novikov are giving us great depth next season and in the future.

The only thing in he I disagree with is I don't think Okposo comes back.

The player I most want him to target in FA is Tommy Novak. I think he'd be a really good middle six player on this team at a reasonable cost.

That's fair, and in no way am I saying JBot was a good GM, I just don't see at this point how some people (not you) think KA has in any way proven himself to be better. At this point, I actually think he's worse than Murray and of the three (none being good) JBot was the best - so far. Unlike the other two, KA can still become better.

I think peoples tolerance/agreement with Adams long term build strategy impacts if they think he's doing a good job or not.

I agree with your comments about the Sabre playing with desperation and heart throughout the game. On the other hand, I have a different analysis as to why this team is playing better at this juncture of the season. The primary reason is that with UPL in between the pipes, the level of goaltending has risen to a high level. His play for a sustained period of time is one of the best in the league. There is no question that our blueline unit and team defense in general is better. But the main reason for this turnaround can be attributed to how UPL has played in net. Candidly, I am stunned by how much he has risen as a goalie. Go back I watch how UPL played in the shootout in the Carolina game and compare it to how he played in shootouts last year, when he would flop like a frantic fish facing a shooter. The metamorphosis is stunning!

    I'm not 🤪

The market is way over-saturated, it’s a terrible time to get into the industry.

Perhaps. Not knowledgeable about the industry in general, but I do know if you have a class A you can be in a Paschall (Based out of Murray) truck next week.

I would bet that that percentage is pretty consistent across every generation.

You are right, of course. I used this age rage because those are the people most likely to enter into the service, the cutoff age for job corps (perhaps it's 23, I'm not 100% positive, it's been eight years since my youngest went through there), and physically healthiest. But I definitely agree with you.

That was my point.  Not everyone's the same, and what works for one doesn't work for another.  The point is saying because one person's path led to success doesn't mean that it will work out the same for someone else.  People, and situations, are rarely identical.

I also mentioned job corps. It a very small percentage of 18-25 year old Americans that have a physical/mental handicap that prevents them from being able to find some kind of meaningful employment. The overwhelming majority are just lazy.

Pegula blackmails taxpayers to reduce the cost of the lease and/or pay for much of the needed renovations, or else he’ll sell the team to investors in Utah, Atlanta, Houston, or Quebec.

Pegula tried to get this paid for by the county and the county told him to kick rocks and that it was part of the lease agreement that he maintain the facility.

That is all this is. These aren't upgrades. The jumbotron is nearly double the estimated life expectancy from the manufacturer. It should have been replaced nearly 10 years ago. The roof has never ever been replaced since it went up nearly 30 years ago in 1996. Terry is way behind on maintenance.

These two replacements have zero to do with the longevity of the team in Buffalo and everything to do with his contractual obligation of the lease.

Given the fact that multiple sources have cited that the arena could use $150M+ in upgrades (not just replacement/repair) a $10M display and a $5M roof are hardly an investment to get excited about.  In fact, I would posit that spending 20% or so of the estimated cost to upgrade the arena is a reasonable cause for concern.

I am not sure the second bolded is true. It very well may be. But we know that the lease holder has for KBC has been held accountable for other upgrades in the past.

    "The lease expires in 2025"

Would someone more knowledgeable than I please explain what the possible options could be after the lease expires?

Given that UPL has been providing good goaltending for a couple months now and if he stays on that trajectory, is it reasonable to assume that we already have good goaltending heading into next season? Or is the acquisition of a more capable backup than Comrie an essential part of the goaltending equation and you can’t have good goaltending if your starter is the only good goalie on the roster? Personally, I think it’s the latter as the the top rated goalies in the league are backed up by goalies with solid stats as well, which stands to reason given that those teams are all rather sound defensively.

It’s imperative that KA find a backup capable of providing solid net minding stats for 25-30 games before I can say we have “good” goaltending.” As good as Oopie may be, he’s only part of the goaltending equation.

We have that. I'll say it again, Levi will start at least 25 games next year and have a winning record.

No one laughed at you. I told you it would correspond with a dip in offense and lo and behold, it’s exactly what happened

it’s always fun to argue from points of view like yours because you can always be right because you never have a stated scenario in advance that you need to see to be satisfied. You’ve never once argued the team wasn’t doing everything properly: your stance is merely just that things are going well because you can’t prove there’s not worse. No matter what the team does you’ll move the goal posts and say, “what could have even been done differently?”

I call my shots in perpetuity. I do not care if you don’t agree with my takes: they have an internal logical consistency. I have stated time and time again the metrics by which I am evaluating the team, called out in advance, so my arguments can be fairly applied. I said was measuring by way of results this year, that decisions were going to be evaluated by way of their role in helping us make, or miss, the playoffs.

If that wasn’t your goal, fine. If you think the rebuild is going at a reasonable pace: that’s fine. Moreover: if you don’t actually care about the results of the team and just want full buy in from the fanbase and a full building: have at it, root for that.

I have explained my stances and what goes into evaluating and they have remained consistent. I said a year ago Adams would need to be credited if we made the playoffs this year. He would be due the credit had that happened. I’ve stated he’ll get credit for providing good goaltending for next year if there’s good goaltending for next year. It’s honestly pretty simple. And if we make the playoffs next year, I’ll credit him by continuing to follow this team. If not, and he stays on: don’t worry, you’ll have one less person around here talking about wanting a winning team.

It's still not clear what your thoughts are regarding Adams and his slow build. Would you elaborate in great detail? Take your time, really hammer the finer points. Leave nothing out, help everybody understand what your stance is, from forwards to goaltending, drafting to free agency. Don't forget the trade deadline!  No less than three thousand words, anything short of that would leave too much interpretation for the reader. Thanks in advance....

    Big dilemma for sure.

They cannot lose another NHL level goalie, they are too hard to get and too hard to develop.  I would bridge him into his UFA years (3 or 4 years) if there is room.

There will be more contracts coming up to pay as well.  The Skinner deal is becoming an albatross and Power could have been bridged.  We just burned an ELC year on an 18 year old.   Mitts is on deck.

There will be challenges like all teams face.

Skinners contract was structured to be bought out after next year. I broke it down in another thread, the pearl clutching over money is unnecessary.

I've been his biggest supporter.  I might be his only supporter. He was awarded player of the year in junior. He dealt with major injuries that required surgeries. He was supposed to develop in Rochester last year, but was forced onto the Sabres roster due to injuries to other goalies before he was ready.

Since he was recalled last year the team is eight games over .500 in those he's started, and six games below .500 combined with all other goalies.

He is still young for a goalie and has not been afforded a traditional development path, he is not close to being a fully developed goalie. I think he makes a Filip Gustavsson type jump. I see improvement over last year, he's had two quality starts and won both games. Like it or not, our season depends on him. I'm comfortable with it.

I'll say it again, he'll play over thirty games and have a winning record.
