  1. In his 15 years of drafting for the Sabres, he is back to square one with nothing to show for it Its funny how youdon't hear other GMs complain that they would be much better if only they had the chance to pick at the top instead of in the middle So again, provide some of these great draft picks that Darcy has made that have/currently are tearing it up in the NHL either for Buffalo or someone else You already got it started with Vanek (a #5 pick) and Miller (someone many here argue is mid level at best, but not elite) heres a link to a list, even includes their stats for cames played in the NHL http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Buffalo_Sabres_draft_picks How many of the guys that Darcy has had a hand in drafting over his many years here have been wows that make him stand out as a great drafter of talent and better then other GMs who haven't had a decade and a half at their jobs with the same organization
  2. Meh, atleast they have a slight chance that the plan could get used....... Also, if it doesn't get used by the Leafs, they could always save it for their MLS Soccer team, or the Raptors. It could even just be the left over plans from the Argos parade...
  3. Yup, Darcys drafting has been superb and better then the rest, its why the Sabres are currently on the verge of a dynasty right? its why I have already put my name on the waiting list for the 2013-14 Stanley Cup Championship home games in Buffalo. Seriously, how great have his drafts been and have they really been better then any other teams? How many great players has his drafting brought us and what kind of success has it brought the franchise? He's had what, 15 years of drafts, how many of the guys that he has drafted have gone on to be top level talent in the NHL? How many of his draft choices from the top couple rounds of the draft have gone on to become great NHL players for Buffalo or another team and not just average depth players?
  4. Depends on who you ask. For about 98% of the leagues fans it was a frenzy, for Sabres fans, it was an expected Fizzle that brought back memories of "the good old days" when Golisano was the owner
  5. Looking at what the KHL was offering Bobrovsky, I would think theres a team in the KHL that is gonna give Kovi a deal that will make it worth his while to leave that much money
  6. If an NHL GM actually believes that his problems are that he hasn't been able to pick high enough in the draft to get top level talent, thats why they are bad and need to gut a team, He should never be allowed to work in a pro sports teams front office ever again. That has to be the most moronic excuse I have ever heard in sports But can they atleast get participation ribbons? You don't want the losing team to go home with hurt feelings
  7. Your not just going to put the letters FC in front or behind the cities name to make some of sports most creative team names?
  8. Maybe not, now that he has come full circle some here may praise Darcy for letting him go so now they can see what kind of player he had become before bringing him back!Another genius move by the leagues smartest GM!
  9. Welcome to your 2013/14 Buffalo Sabres!
  10. I never said that they should, I said thats what everyone here wantsShouldn't you be leading the Dale Tallon "Circle Jerk" right now?
  11. Neither way is guaranteed to be a success or failure. The only "right way" to build a team is by assembling the best talent possible using all avenues you can (and a whole lot of luck). You can look at all the top teams and they all have a mixture of guys that were brought in by the draft, FA and Trades. The one thing thats a definite is having talent evaluators who can find you the best guys, and getting guys that work together and whos styles mesh well And why was it the wrong move? Just because it didn't work out? maybe if they continued and followed through on making some other deals things could have been different. maybe in 2 years its going to become apparent that this youth movement is going to be the wrong move
  12. Yeah, I would lean more towards the problem being getting more of a roster turnover and having players leave, then getting them to stick around. Whats that stat thats always being brought up of the amount of players on the blackhawks from their last Cup win to the most recent compared to the Sabres turnover in that time? One of (and there are more) DRs biggest problems is that he holds on to too many guys hoping they pan out or change instead of making moves to upgrade the roster.
  13. The Jets did make atlest 1-2 moves earlier this week IIRC, the Caps were the only other silent team along with Buffalo
  14. Darcy trades Miller and a 1st to whatever team Gerbe ends up signing with?
  15. Sounds correct, although atleast 2 of those teams (Kings and winnipeg) were active in trades for players recently so they are making roster moves
  16. I'm not saying to do something for the sake of doing something, but theres plenty of room for improvement on this team, yet theres not even rumors of anything thats going to get done that improves them in the near future. As for the bolded, how many teams in the Cap Era have actually had serious cap issues that resulted in the franchise being set back more then a year? Every year there are alot of hockey fans who site there and question how the Flyers can make a move they just made, and yet they make it work to bring in another big name. Same with the Rangers and the Penguins. The Islanders have given out probably 2 of the worst contracts ever in league history and they aren't having cap issues. The Sabres have an owner who "apparently" is willing to do whatever it takes to win, where moneys no object, yet they are now back to a Golisano type offseason and desperatly looking to shed the only established good players on their roster and had the GM warn fans that there will be more "suffering" ahead for the next few years
  17. Sounds about right. Why give up much when you can gamble on a small one year contract for Emery and Nabokov, or sign another available FA like Bryzgalov?Teams won't want to give up alot for someone established they will have to re-sign to a big deal, they would more then likely give up more for someone who has potential to be a future #1 goalie (like Bernier)
  18. Of course they don't interest you, because you have been conditioned by the franchise to accept mediocrity and suffering because its the only way to reach the ultimate goal! As for McKEnzies tweet, the way its written usually means they are getting that amount as the total over that length of time, if its the amount per year then its followed by something like "per year" or "average". I understood that, just making a joke about it
  19. Just because they are rebuilding, it doesn't mean they still can't try and put a quality product on the ice next seasonBut I do agree, who would want to sign with the Sabres right now? They have become a laughingstock with an owner who comes running in and talking about bringing cups to the area in 3 years, and throwing money around. It took him 2 offseasons to getting back to where they were spending wise when Golisano ran the team and are even further away from getting to the Finals (there further away from having a chance at the playoffs) The only thing Darcy should do this week is hand in a resignation letter so someone with balls and a clue can take over, or to officially declare they are joining the AHL until they have a team that can compete in the league
  20. how could it be bad, apparently the Wings signed him for less then a $1 million a year!
  21. I don't know, bring it up again when any of these teams are playing in the spring of next year and compare it to how much smarter Darcy and the Sabres were for staying far away from the frenzy of today.
  22. Sure, on teams that are trying to fill one spot or 2 in their lineup they may decide to bring up someone from the AHL to fill the spot on the roster where they have to earn the right to stay on the roster and move up. How many teams do this with multiple players at the same time? If fans here had their way, theres a chance that 3 of the 4 Centres this year could end up being guys without much NHL experience, and thats not including a goaltender without a full seasons worth of games played, and any of the young guys on defence.
  23. Atleast the Oilers have some young talent with elite level potential (1st overall picks).
  24. The markets not bad for goalies, there are plenty of teams that would want Miller, the problem is that no one is willing to pay what Darcy and the fans think they should get for him. Theres plenty of teams looking to find a great goalie, but theres other options out there where tehy can take a chance without giving up anything but money
  25. Another Welfare Christmas in Buffalo......... As every other kid in teh neighborhood gets to open up new toys, we get to sit there playing with our old broken ones while our parents get to tell us how it will make us better people in the future by not being spoiled and enjoy the new socks and underwear we get. Does anyone know if the Sabres front office even had to show up to the office today, or are they all just enjoying a 4 day weekend?
