  1. Random thought: when was the last time the Sabres played a game at the FNC with something riding on it? Where there was anticipation behind it, and something tangible depending on the outcome?

The infamous game against Arizona that made Mike Weber nine kinds of sad. As I recall, no shortage of atmosphere for that game. As singular as that situation was, it tells me it's not the fans who are the problem. Simple solution. Put a product on the ice worthy of getting excited about, and people will get excited about it.

  2. I really think the ASG is for kids and corporate schmoozing. If you're not eight years old or employed in upper management at some large company spending a ton of money on NHL related marketing, and thus collecting your free booze and swag over the course of the weekend, I don't get the appeal.

  3. Anaheim absolutely taking Dallas to the woodshed. 4-0 with 4:23 left in the first. Lindy is doing that thing where his entire head turns beet red. Memories....

Edit: not firing Julien seems to have been a good choice. For all the wailing and gnashing of teeth earlier in the season, they're only three points out of a playoff spot right now.

  4. As long as Buffalo is sniffing 30th place, GMTM will be willing to move anyone for the right price.    I'm OK with that.    He hasn't touched the roster since the draft.   This current group has had plenty of time to gel and show something.    They haven't (at least a number of them haven't), so it's time to cut bait.    What I like about GMTM is he doesn't fall in love with his own players, which many many GMs are guilty of.

I can certainly think of a former Sabres GM who did so until everything went up in flames.

Edit: It wasn't the only reason, nor was he solely responsible, mind...

  5. At some point, the "hittee" needs to be held accountable for putting himself in a vulnerable position. Tiffoli knew Polak was coming, as soon as they approached the boards Tiffoli came to a dead stop and turned his back. You can't hold the hitter responsible when the other player purposely turns his back. It almost looked like Polak was trying to avoid him because he checked up and hit him while he was bent over. If he really wanted to board Tiffoli, he would have stood up and labeled him.

That better not get a review from the league.

Horseshit. Polak, regardless of when Tofolli tuned up the boards, had ample time to decide whether he'd plant his shoulder between the numbers on the back and chose wrongly. Chickenshit play. He'll be luck not to miss a few games.

  6. And now, because evidently I never tire of arguing about things, I'm arguing with Laffs fans on Twitter (it started with me tweeting at Damian Cox because he's an infuriating simpleton) about whether someone wearing a Laffs jersey should be penalized for dropping his shoulder between the numbers on an opponent's back on the boards. Thank 8 lb. 6 oz. baby Jesus for beer and my four day work week... Because this could go all night.....

  7. You want to know how absolutely moronic the NHL scheduling was this year? Montreal played thier first home game since December 17th last night. That's 8 consecutive road games.

There's been some sort of Avatar-related Cirque du Soleil thing going on at the Bell Centre for like three weeks.  I'm going to assume that was booked first.

  8.

Maybe they should have an Exorcism Night at the FNC.

As I recall that was tried when Muckler traded for Satan at the deadline in '97. The same season the scoreboard crashed to center ice because, obviously, evil spirits. Didn't quite work then; given the organization's recent track record at moving forward, they'll let loose a few new and more malevolent demons because why not?
