I hear you...I am in Florida so I will be pulling for Tampa

    That's a great alternative.

I spent 22 years in Florida. I think the last two years the Panthers have been great. Last year they had the 2nd best record after the all-star game and became the team with the most points ever to miss the playoffs. This year they went on a hot streak after Lou and Trochek came back. Barkov, Hoobie and Daddy are gelling like crazy. If they can slightly improve their D next year and find a way to dump Reimer, they could be a contender.

I don't want to blow off the Sabres. They will always be my team. But I have two other teams to root for, I think it's important to root for the home team (even though I am equidistant to Nashville). Sabres fans might hate me for rooting for Raleigh, but they might be playoff bound............... the Panthers and Sabres aren't.

Say it isn't so JJ.  It's not where you live but where your heart is.

My heart will always be with the Sabres. But until they give me something to cheer about, I might spend some time rooting for my home team. Not being a fair weather fan, just being a fan who is sick of zero progress over several years.

I know. What a whiny and entitled fan base. I bet this franchise could win a CUP and people would STILL find reasons to be UNHAPPY.

I didn't see too many unhappy people during the win streak.

After being the laughing stock of the league the last five years, I think fans have reason to be upset.

Wait.... wasn't someone harassed for using a woman's name in an offensive manner? The name Phyliss come to mind.

Wasn't it the guy who runs this board? Oh wait, he wasn't harassed for that. For some reason he can get away with it.

Based on what?  All metrics indicate he is a 2nd-pairing defenseman.

Credit for what? Allowing the other teams to badly outshoot us when they are on the ice? Risto is much worse than Bogo in this category.

Do metrics take into account he plays 75 minutes a game against every team's top line, and his entire career has been on the worst offense in the entire league, hence the poor +/- rating?

Bogo is a bottom pair D.  He adds little offense, is mistake prone with the puck and often is slow to make the decisions with the puck.  Go watch the Feb 1st and Feb 5th games if you want video evidence of how bad Bogo can be.

Risto is a 2nd pairing D who needs a very good defensive partner to thrive in the NHL. He needs someone who can cover up for him as he freelances.  McCabe is the closest we have to such a player.  We are better off moving Risto to get the 2nd line C we need, now that we have Montour as a replacement.

I don't think you're giving Bogo and Risto enough credit. And at this point, you might be giving Montour too much. I haven't seen enough from him to convince me he is a top D-man. Granted he just got here.

I totally believe there is more talent on this roster than gets the credit. I like our goaltenders but as you saw against the Leafs, our defensive system (Steve Smith/Phil???) is crappola. If you aren't willing to take the body and just stick check, you'll lose the majority of your games. I do think a great deal of this falls on the current coaching staff. Leafs ran out of gas in the 3rd as to be expected crossing a time zone and playing the night before and the Sabres actually picked up some physicality (the Leafs weakness) so yes, the Sabres looked a little better then. Didn't matter by then. Another 'L".

    Wash, rinse, repeat.

The Flyers did not fire their coach (they made the playoffs the next season with him), and so far the Sabres have not made a move to fire their coach.   You are predicting an outcome based on 2 data points for 100 data points and insisting your prediction has 99% certainty.   Proving instead that math/statistics/ logic are not your strengths.

Many of us are all feed up with Phil as the Coach, myself included.  Firing him is only a good move if we hire someone significantly better.  Phil appears to be over his head as a first time head coach.   Team readiness, line matchups, powerplay …

I was taking math at UB in 6th grade, thank you very much. It was a casual observation. Do you honestly think I thought this has happened 100 times? Any coach in this situation would have been fired by now. Reality is not one of your strengths.

Classy. I know you hate me, you don't need to make it so obvious, Nancy.

Except for this metaphor there is no way a coach is a tire. A driver or a mechanic maybe, but the tires are the players and Housley can switch tires, but only if there's a spare in the trunk.

So who you going to follow now? Boston?

I'm still going to follow the Sabres. But unless some serious coaching changes are made during the off-season to bring in a veteran head coach with some balls, Sabres games will not be top priority. If I can make other plans, I will.

Of course, there's always the Hurricanes.

Since this has never happened before in the NHL I guess your odds are 0 times out of 1.

Thanks for proving my point. Housley has eclipsed the barrier of failure. Two teams have had 10 game win streaks and missed the playoffs in NHL history. It's quite possible the Sabres finish at least 10 points worse than that other team. 99 out of 100............... obviously hasn't happened that often. But you'de have to be clueless to think that percentage is accurate if it did happen 100 times.

I wonder sometimes if Housley was told to not worry about winning games but focus on developing the system this year. He certainly does not seem to coach individual games and situations or create specific game plans for the opponent. So I guess you have to half empty half full things and choose whether you believe he is bad at that, or he will be doing that differently next year. Wait and see I guess cause he isn't going anywhere.

I've had enough waiting and seeing. This organization is an absolute joke.

and yet the PH defenders came out after that one win. I just don't get that at all. He can go right at season's end. Tonight is a shining example of seeing the lack of effort that creeps into Sabres games. Owned by a  team that played in a different time zone the night before and the only reason they are not getting completely smoked is that Carter Hutton has stood on his head. And for those who even felt our defense wasn't all that bad, tonight lets you see exactly where our defense stands: garbage! Take the body!!!!!

They've got one win in nine games. That means he hasn't lost the locker room. We're all good. Baby steps. Next year, 75 points.

We'd be so much better if we had goaltending.

Why does everyone insist on pretending the win streak didn’t exist?

Blues are awful. Without their 11 game win streak, they’d be bottom five in the league.

Take away that run where the Flyers won 12 of 14 and they are dead last in the league.

It doesn’t make sense for those teams, so why does it for us?

Why aren’t you saying that if it wasn’t for our recent streak of losing nine of 10, we’d still be in the race?

We are what our record says we are.

(Besides, with the exception of winning the Dahlin lottery, the streak as the happiest I’ve been as a hockey fan in maybe 10 years.)

Blues had a long win streak. Sabres had a long win streak. There's one major difference............ They're in the playoff hunt.

Take away the Sabres win streak and they're dead last in the league. Even worse than the Phlyers would have been.

Yet you think Housley should be winning and isn't even close to that roster talent....hmmmm.

I think his win percentage since the win streak should be significantly better than the tank teams that we're designed to fail. Yet they aren't. Don't twist my words.
