What do we become if we begin to segregate among ourselves?  Are we left to attack each over the amount of suffering one fan chooses to incur over another?  What does it accomplish? In the end, are we all not fans?  Or are some people better fans because they want to suffer and feel miserable over something they cannot control?

While that's your prerogative, perhaps it's best to not keep jumping into threads with what seems to come across with no other purpose than to antagonize people. You can't be surprised by the response you get when you change your avatar to yet a 3rd team since you've been here and then begin to tout how you are just going to roll with whatever team can entertain you (from your prior living locations). So, if you want to give those little jabs, you should expect jabs in response.

I don't not expect jabs....... but it seems as though you guys are pretty ultra-sensitive when it comes to criticizing the Sabres. Not sure of your age, but when I was in my 20's, I was tolerant of crappy teams. Now that I'm in my 40's and seen where all the Buffalo teams have gone....... you really can't hold it against me when I decide to support another team. Even though I have plead my allegiance to the Sabres and only going to support Sunrise and/or Raleigh for the playoff run because they were/are my home teams.

I'm sorry if that offends you. When I go to watch a movie, I don't watch one that has numerous negative reviews. I watch a movie that entertains me. Sports is no different. The Sabres are a laughing stock, and have been for many years. Why should I waste my time watching garbage?

Good for you, but hope you realize for some picking a second team is close to blasfemy.    Personally I could never do it, I'd rather be miserable then watch another team.

I have always been a Sabres fan. I am also a hockey fan. I've lived in three locations in my lifetime. When my home team becomes the laughing stock of the league, I turn somewhere where I can be entertained. At my age, watching pathetic post-season outcomes from the Sabres and Bills since the mid 90's gets really old after a while.

Good for you being a die-hard. I'm one as well. But at some point I don't want to waste my nights watching crap. If I can't see something that entertains me, I'd rather be out trying to get laid....... not watching this garbage.

I get the second half of that, but the first half is wrong.

Stafford, Myers, Leino, Hodgson, McBain, Omark, Grigorenko, Zadorov, Ehrhoff, Stewart, Meszaros, Benoit... the tank was stuffed with players just collecting a paycheque like no Sabre team in history. They went in to every game expecting to lose.

This Sabres team put more effort into the ten games after the streak than that bunch did all season.

I watched the tank teams, they were fun because they had zero talent but lots of heart. It pains me to watch the current Sabres, knowing they have tons more talent and still can't win on a higher level than the tank teams. The "bang for the buck" factor. They sucked then and they suck now. Only difference is they sucked back then because they really did suck. This team as they sit is borderline playoff bound. Yet, they aren't.

  4. I said it before, and I'll say it again. Back in the 90's when a coach had two assistants, the head coach needed to be a teacher. Now, teams have 78 assistants and they take care of the game plan. Now, the head coach needs to be a cheerleader and not a teacher. People on this forum thought I was nuts when I said the Sabres needed to hire Spuddy Gallant. Look what he's done. He doesn't have a strategy or a style of play. He takes the guys he has on the roster and plans around their strengths. Instead of forcing a system like Housley is doing and what Rolston and Goober Bylsma did in the past.

Dump Phil, and hire an experienced veteran coach. STOP TRYING TO MAKE ROOKIES WORK!

Why? The tank teams were like watching paint dry.

The only bits of excitement involved seeing how long Michal Neuvirth and Jhonas Enroth Could withstand the inevitable 40-shot barrage. The team didn’t score, didn’t defend, didn’t hit, didn’t fight...if they allowed two in the first, the game was over, they went period after period without scoring chances.

You got to witness Cody Hodgson and Ville Leino earn $2 million per goal, Brian Flynn, Torrey Mitchell and Matt D’Agostini anchor your middle six, and the immortal Messy Balls defence in all its glory as you tried to fool yourself into thinking Mike Grigorenko, Phil Varone and Linus Omark might turn into NHL players.

How soon we forget. It was among the most god-awful NHL hockey ever played.

Because they played like they actually gave a damn. It's painful to watch a team twice as talented as the tank teams with a win percentage almost equal to the teams that were built to fail.

5 of the remaining 8 games on the schedule are against 3 of the worst 4 teams in the NHL. If this 58 points-per-season losing pace since late November continues through the next couple weeks, how do you NOT fire Housley?!

    Because Buffalo.

I have a suspicion that Terry Pegula hired Phil Housley simply because Phil is Phil.  I.E., a big name from the Sabres past, a previous Wunderkind, and a Sabre who is in the HOF.

That all appealed greatly to the side of Terry Pegula that cried (FFS) when he looked at #11 in the crowd at his team purchase PC and said "You're my hero."

It's also the part of Terry that bumped into Patty La La at some fundraiser dinner and said "Oh my God, it's Patty LaLa!  Come save my franchise!  If you can't do it, no one can!"

Pegula has demonstrated that he is naive, gullible, and sentimental when it comes to running this team.

He should be kept far away from the hiring process.

Which of course begs the question: "Then who is going to do the hiring?"

And the answer is a czar type person who should be added to the organization but is not here yet.

Yeah, yeah, that went up in flames with #16 and his decision to hire GMTM.  So what.  Doesn't mean the concept isn't sound.

You gotta hire the right people.

    That's the entire point.

Thurman Thomas as next head coach!

Jim Kelly and Daren Puppa as assistants.

I have no time to read the whole thread, but I can see that you took some heat for your new avatar and, IMO, rightly so.  If you say that you are not switching teams 'officially', but want to be entertained and follow a team in the playoffs (I'm doing that with the Habs) there is a right way and a wrong way.  Way up thread I told everyone that would read it that I am fully behind the Sabres, but will be rooting for Montreal (my long-standing second team for many reasons) once the playoffs start and if Montreal is in ... changing your avatar, IMO, is not the right way.

Your post that I am quoting is completely out of line and uncalled for, unless you are actually trolling everybody here.  There can be no other explanation, IMO.

I don't see how it's out of line. But, you have your opinion.

  9. And not only are they going to miss the playoffs, they're going to miss the playoffs by A LOT! It would be one thing to miss the playoffs in the last week after leading the league, but to be realistically knocked out of the playoffs with two months to go is unacceptable.

This entire coaching staff should be unemployed within the next couple of weeks. Alas, it will not happen and we'll go through this same tire fire next year.

I'm just sick and tired of watching the same garbage for 5 years...teams have gone from being good to bad to good again in that time and we still cant figure out how to stop turning the puck over in our own end.

To be dead last in the league in win percentage since the win streak........... that's embarrassing. It's one thing if you suck, it's another if you are predicted to make the playoffs at 94% and to miss the playoffs by a margin never seen in NHL history.

You said the playoffs are a must for next season. Usually there is a consequence when you fail to meet such a condition. I was asking what the consequence was.

Honest question.....Are you paid for by the Housley Foundation? You have been praising him for months with nothing to back it up.

    2 hours ago, Kruppstahl said:

Did you guys hear Housley after tonight's Habs game?

"We should have won" blah blah blah.

    Moral victories, huh Phil?

Dude is a loser and needs to be history, just as soon as the season is over.

I'm in favor of keeping him here until then as he's doing a good job of losing out for us and improving our draft position.

He is weak and doesn't stand up for his players.

    Says the fair weather fan.

There are three teams near me. Some have even been good since I’ve been here. I hate them all because they are not the Sabres and none of them are my avatar.

That is unfair. A fair weather fan jumps on the bandwagon of the hot team for that month. I have been a Sabres fan since the day my dad took me to see Gilbert's 500th goal and it was a diehard fanhood ever since.

I don't think it's fair to call me a fair weather fan when I spent 20+ years in Panther land and now I am in Hurricane land. I've already said, the Sabres will always be my team, but I need to find some entertainment. It's not going to come from the Sabres camp. The Canes are kicking ass with a roster nobody thought would go this far this early...... (Botterill, take note) They have heart and they want to win. The Sabres don't give a *****. Sorry if I offend you by going to a different team. I'm not officially going to a new team, I'm just switching my focus to a team that might give me entertainment to finish off the year because the Sabres sure as helll ain't going to do it.

Same for me; haven't lived in WNY in over 20 years now....couldn't imagine rooting for a NHL team not named Buffalo Sabres...as much as they suck!

Me neither. I've grown up knowing the Sabres, I know the system, I know all the players coming up and their history.......

But, at the same time, if you're a transplant, you have to show some interest in the home town team when the Sabres continue to blow.

I felt guilty at first following the Panthers and now the Hurricanes. I'll still follow the Sabres with a passion. But in the meantime I have lived in 3 locations in my 40+ years of life. At some point I have to root for the home team. But, if it comes down to the Hurricanes, Panthers and Sabres on a single night..... you bet your ass I'll be watching the Sabres game.

I don't want to be labeled as a deserter........ I just want to see some competitive performances from up and coming teams...... teams that seem to improve in half the time the Sabres seem to.
