Ok, but this thread is about the anthems and not the theme from Frozen...

You are right, and I hope it stays that way. I just wish SDS would treat others the way he treats me. Double standards...........

I'll say it again; give me two months and a Xanax and I'll outdo him.

I'll be looking forward to it! Opening night in place of Doug Allen? ?

I like Doug.  Yes, there are more exciting singers out there, but he's a Buffalo guy, and for as long as I have watched, he has never missed a note.  The guy is a machine and seems to truly enjoy singing at the games.

There are singers out there that give inspiration each and every game. Not sure Doug Allen does that, but he does give a great consistent performance every game he sings in. I'd put him in the top 5 of current singers.

  3. I made a comment that probably was a little over the top about Tampa's anthem singer. But it had no racial overtones. None. It just happened to be a comment about a black woman.

Hoss came straight out and called me a racist. No mods have banned him over given him warnings. The ironic part is I've spent a pretty good part of this thread giving the highest praise to a black woman.

Will any mod take notice? Probably not.

It’s the ol cry wolf routine AKA say it enough and it becomes truth for some. Yawn...

lets get the thread back on target and I hope the mods see the ones who initially try to derail it.

I hope so too. But SDS doesn''t like me so he'll never back me up.

Yeah, I'm not getting into all of that; I'm just pointing out the somewhat-known theory that the third stanza of The Star Spangled Banner has some racial overtones.

I've heard the theory before from other sources; that's just the first one that came up when I googled "full Star Spangled Banner."

OK, fair point. And I appreciate your input. I'm just saying it's not the first time Hoss has made racial claims and nobody has held him accountable.

  6. It's not the first time he's made racist claims with nothing to back it up.

Hoss, leave your racist claims to another thread. I'm talking about anthem singers here. And so far it's been a damn good discussion.

Cornelison is my favourite, the volume and how the whole building is shaking.

I like the traditional type of singer, not one who tries to make a classic their own by changing it.

I agree 100%. Keep it simple but show off your talents with your voice and volume. Which is why I think Whitney Houston's rendition was one of the all time greatest. Superior performance but didn't get too crazy with the improvising.

Doug is Meh, the anthem singing before events is Meh, acceptable, but not necessary.

I don't think he has the voice of a Slewidge, Cornelison or Angilly. But I do think he is one of the better singers in the league and love the fact he keeps it simple and doesn't improvise.

Not trying to sound cold, but I'm not a big fan of teams going to kids singing because they think it's cute. It's unfortunate Slewidge lost his job because Ottawa wanted to go that route.

Agree.  I like Doug. Don’t get why people complain about him.  I heard the singer at the  last Blues game and he was especially moving

I love the anthem and the whole process.  That means if you are in the building and you are capable then you STAND in a respectful manner and take your hat off.

I tend to reflect during the anthem and find it part of the experience.  I like to be in my seat before it starts.

Agreed. Respect the anthem. But it's also great to hear a fine rendition to set the tone.

Forgot about Kate. I don't put Lauren Hart on the same level, but I think it's cool the way the Phlyers mix in her singing with Kate Smith. Nothing against Lauren, I think she is pretty damn good. Just not on the same level as Cornelison, Slewidge, and Angilly.

  11. I started this thread for NHL anthem singers. But I just have to add this. One of the greatest anthems ever sung, and very emotional with the start of the Persian Gulf war.

I have noticed this new, big guy singing in Boston.  I immediately did some net research wondering where the hell Rene Rancout went.

Turns out he retired at the end of last season.  I didn't know that.

Rene wasn't much of a singer, but the man was a legend and had great enthusiasm.

    He'll be missed!

No doubt he was a great entertainer. And at one point he was a great singer. But when he retired I think he was 115 years old and kind of washed up. But he sure was fun to watch.

I always enjoyed Lyndon, especially if it was the playoffs and the Sabres went on to beat the Sens.

Sue Britton did a classy job back in the day.

Wow, that's an old classic, Thanks for that.

  14. I know it's a small part of the game. But it does set tone for the game before it starts. Gets you hyped up if its done right.

My top three........ Todd Angilly, Jim Cornelison and (unfortunately he isn't employed anymore) Lyndon Slewidge.

Who else do you all have?

Gallant / Spuddy (but I only hear JJ calling him that).

And I always thought that Boogie was Bouger.

I only call him Spuddy because that was his nickname before most of us were born.

I call Boughner Boogie because that was his nickname in Sunrise.

Just trying to keep things fun is all.

Nothing wrong with speculation, and of course it's not impossible.  My point is simply that it's way off base to refer to those bits of speculation as "general knowledge" and "facts."

I referred to them as "general knowledge" because it has been widely referenced on this forum. If I am wrong, I apologize.

It what way does this help him coach? How does getting 500 points and 1600 penalty minutes, help someone get team to follow a plan, and have a good plan.

He is a hardass coach. He sticks up for his team, he is a cheerleader, and firing him was one of the worst things the Panthers ever did. Not saying his player stats qualifies him as being a quality head coach. But it does show he is a die-hard.

He did win the Jack Adams, did he not?

The rule states that if the opposing team is responsible for the net coming off, the goal can be counted if, a) the shot has been taken or in the process of being taken at time net is dislodged, and b) the puck is judged to be going in the regular net placement, had it been there.

Net doesn’t have to be on, was clearly the correct call. And a just rule, too.

Point taken. After taking into consideration what really happened, and the rules, you are correct with your assessment and I'm wrong.

I don't like hiring Boughner. It isn't crazy though to look at him.

You know who calls coaches by their nicknames? Fans of that team.

I call him Spuddy because that was his nickname playing for all his years in Detroit. And also, just trying to lighten it up a bit because some people here are way too tense.

Almost 500 points and 1,600 penalty minutes......... how can you pass that up?
