  1. The civil suit is related to the December incident at the Harborcenter and was leaked in the media the day Kane was arrested. It just got lost in the shuffle.

The woman he came with is claiming he told her there was a party he would take her to and then ended up just taking her back to his place (which is what Darren Sharper used to do to his victims).

Let's not compare what Darren Sharper did to his victims to EK.  If there were a comparison, EK would have and should have been indicted for the December incident.

  2. He's been the owner for what 4.5 seasons.  The first full was an attempt to spend money, extend Lindy and multiple attempts at honoring past Sabres - and started spending a ton of money upgrading the facilities.  They quickly changed course and started the tank which clearly was an overwhelmingly good decision.  He's been an absolutely amazing owner and the fruits are starting to show.  Sullivan doesn't want anyone to believe that because he's bitter.  He's realizing no one cares what he thinks and he hates that even more - and then he writes a pitiful article like this.  I've spent a few nights with Sullivan but I don't pretend to know him well - however what you do quickly pick up on is he's a hateful little man.

    Very well said.

  3. How often does he confront guests? Everyone is treated with kid gloves. Especially Sabres and Bills employees.

That does not appear the MO at WGR.

I remember how Howard used to be buddy-buddy with Chan Gailey during interviews (by way of example), and be just the opposite when they were not interviewing him/he was off the air.

  4. I have never heard of someone surrendering at a police station being handcuffed outside the station for the "arrest". Does anyone know if Buffalo has its own booking/processing at their headquarters, or if it is done in a "central/county" booking center (In Lehigh County, PA, ALL booking is done at the central booking center). If someone surrenders and is transported to booking, they would be cuffed for transport - policy, no exceptions, for us. The only time someone rides in the back for a "courtesy transport" (victim/parent etc...) the cabin camera must be on. We are very strict that way, so I could understand if they needed to abide by procedures. This may even be "walking him" to specific area of the station.

All of that being said,  from the booking/arrest sheets shown in the article (it says read police reports, but I didn't see any report) it looks like tres. is the highest charge. If one of the lawyers can clarify, does New York have a mis. Dis Con charge? We have both summary (ticket) dis con and mis dis con. (in PA). We wouldn't use tres. for what was described - bouncer asking him to leave, he refused.  We do have summary har. charges (similar to what was described) but that would still be criminal charges, not "violations". And no booking sheet is generated (in PA) for summary charges - they are equal to traffic tickets.

With all due respect to the police, this was STUPID and has/will backfire. I suppose he was handcuffed to protect the public while he walked the few extra steps into the station and had nothing to do with a tipped off photographer being present.

  5. BS charges or not, one of the three women or the bouncer involved has decided to press those bullschit charges. The police have a responsibility to respect that.

    I wonder.

I have a feeling that this is an example of someone being overcharged to make a point.

I had mentioned in an earlier post a few days ago that a friend of mine had heard from someone at the bar that night that this is much ado about absolutely nothing.  I have no idea whether this is true.

I do suspect that this is all a show though.

  6. Couldn't agree more. No matter what you think of Kane, this seems like some grandstanding by the BPD. And, how does the camera just happen to be there?

Absolutely.  Totally gratuitous and obvious that they called the media ahead of time.

They really must have absolutely nothing on him given the BS charge as well.  If his name were Joe Smith, there is no way he would have been treated like this (either the investigation, charges, or calling the media obviously).

  7. If Vesey was really interested in potentially signing with Buffalo, wouldn't he have come to Buffalo to get a better sense of the city, the arena and the facilities?  He has the time to do it now since he is making his decision after August 15th.  When August 15th arrives and we find out he visiting other cities, that likely will be very bad news.

I seem to recall that he was in Buffalo to visit around the time of the draft.  Maybe I am mistaken.

  8. I think he'd play on Eichel's line and have something like 25 goals, 25 assists, year one; with Eichel and Reinhart closer to 70 points.  I've watched a ton of Harvard and USA film on him and he's the real thing. If he was 18 and in the draft this year (I know he's not), he would have went top 5

How do you go about getting film on the guy?

As and aside, I have never seen him play but I am a bit pathological about how much I want him to sign with the Sabres.  That is the fanatic side of being a fan I suppose.

  9. I just don't see giving up on a guy based on the information thus far.  It may turn out that the evidence will show that he did what is alleged.  I just don't see it yet.

I am not willing to make the same mistake that Bucky G made with Shady.

As an aside, I have heard rumblings from a friend of mine who still lives in Buffalo who tells me that people at the bar claim that this whole thing is overblown.  I have no idea whether this is true, but it does give me pause before I am ready to trash the guy.

    Just my two cents.

  10.

Jim Fink is a business reporter, but still, I suppose he knows people who know people...

A growing buzz in some NHL circles that high profile FAs (Babcock last year) and Stamkos are using Sabres as a 'leverage' for better deals

I do not want to go through that again.

I would suggest making an offering in person that expires once he and his agent leave (and don't let them take any calls a la the Jim Kelly/Houston Gamblers situation several years ago).

  11. I try not to think about what if.  I also think that the jury may still be out.

In the end, I like both of these guys.  They both have outstanding talent.  They both seem like good, quality, character buys.  They both wanted to play in Buffalo.

As someone else posted above, at least McDavid is playing out west and not for one of the teams in the east that I despise.

  12. The guy may end up being great, but I have to believe that we could have obtained him without giving up a first round pick for him.  Tim loves to pay retail.

I will never be able to prove this, but we presumably could have gotten him for a second (we were actually doing Ottawa a favor by taking his salary off their books) and then would have been able to trade the 21st pick in the ROR deal rather than have to trade Zadorov.

    Just my two cents.

  13. Who will make an example out of him? Ontario or the NHL? You're expecting more than a fine from Ontario? Don't see that happening. A suspension from the NHL? Not very likely. NHL will probably have him do some type of community service like speaking to teens about this, that and the other. That'd be more productive than a suspension. Benefits everyone.

Crashing into a Tim Horton's is probably a very serious crime in Canada.

If it had been a McDonald's, he probably would have gotten off with a warning not to do it again.

  14. The Sabres:

    -  gave up a ton in the trade (in my view, they overpaid when they had more leverage to get a better deal);

    -  agreed to pay the guy more than any other player in Sabres' history;

    - structured the deal most favorably to ROR.

I just hope that ROR realizes the above, gets his sh*t together, and becomes the player and leader that others see in him.

  15. OK, so I just got a nifty new 4K TV, which sounds cool, except that there is almost no 4K programming out there.  Netflix has some 4K programming -- but I need to upgrade to the premium Netflix level to get it in 4K!  My initial reaction was "over my dead body," but then I thought I'd ask whether anyone here has made the move and if so whether it's worth it.

    Thanks.

Which 4k did you get?  I have been staring at them in stores for some time yet, but have not bought one yet.  I was leaning toward the Sony.
