On ice/locker room leadership - cool we brought in Staal, but it's just not that simple.  And this is tough bc we're in middle of covid protocols making interaction and team bonding near impossible.

    Goaltending

    Coaching

In order those are the biggest problems in this organization.

Maybe we can bring back Brian Gionta or Josh Georges if you want leadership. That didn’t go so well.

And they are decent backs, but not exactly setting the world on fire.  While I generally agree on avoiding backs in the 1st rd, we are drafting at the end of the 1st rd and getting an impact player and the best available player at his position where we are drafting would be a steal imho.  Our other positions of need can be addressed in the FA market or later in the draft.  DB's like GA's Eric Stokes and Tyson Campbell will be available in the 2nd rd.  OL can be found anywhere in the draft and so can LB's (aka Milano a 5th rd pick).   TE is trickier.  If Pitts somehow falls to us, we should grab him.

Kyle Pitts isn’t falling to us. He will be gone in top 10. I’m expecting a DL.

Honestly the WR's weren't the issue.  They knew we were passing on every down and blitzed accordingly and the O-line wasn't good enough.  Simple.

On that note Mel Kiper says we should grab  Alabama RD Harris and I agree with him.  He would give us what the former LSU back gives KC.  He can also catch out of the backfield and is 3 times as dynamic as Singletary and Moss.

We still need a LB, DB and OL help.

You forgot the biggest need;  TE. We got less production from the position than any other team in the NFL. Knox is a good backup. We need an impact TE. We’ve drafted RB in first 3 rounds 2 years in a row.

Is he even being compared to Kuechley?  Freester's mention of it is the first I've heard, although I'll admit I'm not that deeply into NFL coverage.

His expectations were similar. We traded up in the first to draft him to fill a similar role in a similar scheme as Luke, but he has had nowhere near that type of impact.

I think people forget how raw Edmunds was when he got here.  He is only 22 now and a 3 year vet with 2 pro bowls under his belt.  He and Milano are asked to cover what most teams have 3 or 4 LB's to cover.  Sure he makes mistakes, but remember how poor are run D was when both he and Milano were hurt.  He also had the added responsibility of calling the D plays this year after Alexander retired.

The bad news for the NFL, is he is still learning his craft, especially as a play caller and will continue to get better.

The problem is that he will always be compared to Luke Kuechley. Luke was a stud as a rookie and improved from there.

Lottery Protected 2021 First, Risto and a prospect to Anaheim for John Gibson.

He’s 27 and has seven years remaining at 6.4 Million.

Solidifies a large position of weakness and makes you a playoff contender for years to come

And I highly doubt Anaheim makes the trade.

NFW. That’s a big long term contract. Now if they’ll take Skinner straight up then it’s a deal.

unfortunately, RK seems unwilling to give players we need to find out about for the long-term, like Mitts and R2 a real opportunity.  He rather play Sheahan, Lazar and Rieder.

Well GAIU,  I'm sensing a bit of negativity.  Unfortunately, Mitts,  R2, Quinn and Cozens all need more time to develop.  They could all use a full year in Rochester.  Botteril rushed Mitts to the Sabres way before he was ready and the consequences were dire.  Losing Kahun was a critical error by KA and not improving the goaltending.  I am optimistic we will be improved but RK must figure out a way to get some production out of Skinner.

I just don’t think Paul is very insightful.  He carries biases for years and never really tells us anything.  It’s all conjecture.  Does he ever say anything of value?

I remember him discussing Staal as being highly preferred to Strome before others we’re really considering Staal as a realistic option to come here.

As I said earlier RK will take the heat for this.

Some of this mess also lies with KA.  We lacked depth at RW and Center, not LW.  He had Skinner, VO and Girgensons returning.  Our only proven RWs were Reinhart and 4th line KO.  He did address center with Staal and Eakin but got LW Hall and never really addressed RW at all.  Un-surprisingly we now have 3 top 6 LWs for two jobs and an unproven kid as Jack’s RW.

I’m optimistic on Tage. He will be a revelation at RW.  The absence of competent goaltending and the imbalance of right vs left defense is a problem that should have been addressed. RK didn’t like Skinner last year when we only had 2 top LW so that blame probably falls on Botteril.
