Nobody here believes that. Some, however, believe being able to play a pshysical game if the situation calls for it, or if you play an opponent who notoriously doesn't like playing a physcial game (like the Sabres), is a good thing.
-
On this we agree, bringing in one piece to change the make-up of an entire roster is never going to work, even if he was still the player he was 4 years ago. That said, I still think he can play a physical and intimidating game, if the remainder of the roster and overall strategy allows it. Neither is the case.

Talk about seeing what you want to see. Regehr is a heckuva lot better today than Rivet ever was in Buffalo. I'll admit I expected more from him, but to call him another Rivet at best? Come on.
-
Well, you have to admit that's how it looked on paper.
-
As soon as the team cures it's ailments when it comes to being on the receiving end of cheapshots, sure. Until then, this thread should stay very much alive.

Kevin Dineen - he should have been Sabres coach

No way!!!! Ruff won the Jack Adams twice!!! If Ruff weren't here, the Sabres would be dead last, rather than 9th!!!! Who the hell wants to draft in the top three when you can be 9th in the conference instead??!!??! Are you nuts???!!!!!! /Extreme sarcasm off -
A very rational answer, and you're absolutely right. However, you're not addressing the fact that there's a downside to choosing the rational, and sensible road - that the Sabres are exposed for being soft, and that their top players are eligbile for being cheapshotted at will. There's only one way to escape this tag, and it's not to fight Lucic. Lucic didn't care about being suspended, or brought up on charges in the slightest. That gives the pysical edge to the Bruins. Game set & match. Done. Over with. The fact is the Sabres need to start putting opposition players in the locker room, once in a while. Not by cheapshots, but by playing tough and gritty every game. Lucic knew nobody was coming after him, and if someone did, he knew he could handle whoever. He also knew the Sabres would never go after any other Bruin. Forget about fighting Lucic, forget about running Thomas - The Sabres need to play tougher for 82 games a season, and until they start doing that, they'll find themselves on the wrong end of cheapshots more often than not, which is a lose/lose situation any day.

He will if he tells him "You take liberties with my goalie, I'll take liberties with yours".
-
I agree, but the Sabres are a team so soft they actually need an enforcer, and not just that - They need the biggest, meanest psycho SOB they can possibly find, to make up for the remaining 23 skaters who'll apparently stand around and watch their goaltender get freight trained. Not saying I like it, just stating the current situation. Who knows, maybe Scott's not even signed to keep the opponents in check, but rather his teammates :flirt:

Having the Sabres alumni dress for games, IMHO is a bad idea. Then again, with the current roster in mind, maybe they'd do better if the DID dress the alumni.
-
Never liked that guy......! And the arrogance to have #99 retired leaguewide....!!
-
I knew it!!
-
Eric Lindros is a prime example of just that. Keith Primeau too.
-
We had an all-world goaltender back then.
-
That's a good move. He simply NEEDS to get some chemistry going on at least ONE line. I mean, how else will he know which line to split up again? :wallbash:
-
This alone, is one of the reasons I question the current coaches sanity.
-
I can't stand Stafford as much as the next guy, but I'm starting to grow utterly indifferent to anything that happens with this team. I've watched less than 10 games this season. I have no desire whatever to watch more.
-
I'll buy the argument that there's no foward on the Sabres roster who would make you, I or anyone other than Darcy say "Well, we already have ***, so we don't have room for Kane". Don't be so sure about Darcy though - I'm sure he views Stafford or Ennis as the equivalent of Kane.
-
Hilarious Eddie Izard skecth.
-
Funny you should mention it, cause that's exactly how I feel right now. Lindy's 5 guys down low, running around like we're on the PK, and a lot of perimiter play when we finally DO get a cycle going on offense. The only time I actually feel the Sabres carry the play is on the rush. I'll take the hardest working team in hockey as opposed to this, any day. Only goes to show how stale things have become.
-
Agreed, that's a BS hit, and he should indeed be suspended for it.
-
You can make roster changes...??! Sarcasm aside, the simple way of waking up Tommy G - Sit on your wallet, and stop pouring money into this travesty. Anyone who bought a jersey this year is helping keeping the shipwreck afloat. Let it sink already and be done with it.
-
Wouldn't matter if they were in net against the Sabres though, as this club makes any backup look like a superstar. Goaltending though, is the least of this team's problems. And that says a lot about this team's problems!
