  1. This is what I've been saying for awhile now a 3-5 years before we see the playoffs leaning more towards 5. This organization is going to develop these kids and no one is going to be rushed even if we get the 1st overall pick this year.

The Sabres will make the playoffs in the next two years and will contend seriously within 4-5 years. No way will Murray waste all the assets he has at his disposal. Some of the picks could end up packaged with players for prospects and some of our own prospects will come into their own. Either way they will be back in the playoffs within a couple years!!
  2. John Vogl @BuffNewsVogl

Before every start, Ryan Miller comes to Sabres' bench to lean on his stick and think about the game. He has not shown up. Not playing?

    Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC

If you're at SJ/BUF tonight, check the warmups -- I can't watch them on-line. Some rumblings BUF may have a couple guys out.

    Jeremy Rutherford @jprutherford

Confirming reports that Ryan Miller is a late scratch tonight. It's believed that a deal is imminent and STL is the likely destination.

Whoa, interesting. I wonder if Stl said umm hey Buffalo, don't take a chance of getting our guy injured. Lol

  3. yeah, this team should be expected next season to be fighting for a playoff spot, not the #1 overall pick. There is no reason why they shouldn't be very active this summer in the FA and trade markets trying to improve them for next year. They won't be a cup contender, but the playoffs should be the goal, getting the foundation in place and having some place holders in spots for the time being until they find improvements

This is more along the lines of what I think as well.

  4. I was just saying, he never specified what caliber of player, and those 6 (or many others) are just 6 players that would make this team a playoff caliber one

Of course I'm not stupid and i know that they won't be obtaining them (or 6 players of that caliber), it was a joke

I hear ya, I really think the Sabres have atleast 5-7 players in their system in varying degrees of development that can contribute to a better overall roster worthy of contention in the next couple years, add in a couple trades and free agent or two and u have a much better roster.
  5. There is absolutely no reason for this team to not be in contention for a playoff spot next year. They have the resources available to turn this thing around rather quickly, but the key is if they are willing to use these resources and take chances. If picks and prospects can be used to obtain some NHL ready talent, and they can convince some FAs to come here, then add that to some of the current roster (if they don't deal them away) and guys in the system, they could have a team that could fight for a playoff spot.

Problem is there are many here who think it should be Cup or Bust, and that just making the playoffs is failure compared to tanking for a #1 overall pick, hopefully the Front Office doesn't agree

    I agree 100%
  6. Far from still being the worst team in the league, right? This team has Villie Leino and Matt D'Agostini playing on the PP. There are no UFA's that will turn this franchise around. It's going to be Long rebuild. The draft picks won't make a difference for years.

Those two are on the PP this year. Leino will be bought out and D'ago might not be too bad on a fourth line next year while they continue to look for better players?
  7. I get that the team will need some vets at some point, but I still wonder what it means when people say moving Moulson and Ott will "hurt."

This team is in last and will be in the cellar for a few more years. Those guys have too much value in a trade not to move them.

Both Ott and Moulson could help the new and younger guys get acclimated and show them what kind of work ethic and professionalism Nolan is expecting. You can call me a homer but I don't see this team as that far off. 6-9 new players on the roster mixed in with what's left and they WILL start to seriously contend in the next couple/few years.
  8. Larsson with 2 goals, Pysyk a tally, Armia a helper and Risto with a couple dimes tonight. The kids are alright!!

I like Larssons. The guys down on the farm have been one of the hottest teams in the league for a while now. I wonder if they can contend for a title this year?
  9. John Scott can't even breath on the ice without getting two minutes. Every time he's even near a scrum he goes to the box. Why does the NHL have a player known for his gentlemanly play enforcing the rules when it comes to the types of plays that lead to fines? He doesn't have the first clue about the unwritten rules of the game that have changed so much over the years it's just plain ridiculous to have him involved at all. Can't they have Bobby Clarke or Dave "the Hammer" Schultz review the plays? Atleast they know what they are looking for!!

Ok maybe he wasn't exactly gentlemanly but he still doesn't know how to properly enforce the rules!!

  10. How is Chara's goal not goalie interference? He clearly pushed Enroth with his stick. The play by play guy highlighted it. WTF.

"Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgment of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review.

For purposes of this rule, “contact,” whether incidental or otherwise, shall mean any contact that is made between or among a goalkeeper and attacking player(s), whether by means of a stick or any part of the body."

He did move him with his stick, too late now though. Maybe it's the difference between the #1 team in the conference and #30??
