No he isnt. Callahan kills penalties as well. Also why are people making RC out to be TC. He isnt hurt that much so get over this year.....
No he doesnt really kill penalties. He's on the PK less than Stafford, Girgs, and Clarke freaking macarthur. He's 150th on PK time for all forwards in the NHL.
-
it wont hurt them in the least! It will be an even better deal when the cap hits 100m. It is only going up. That deal will look like a steal in 2-3 years.
This deal we are talking is jordan staal money. Which is right where he belongs.
Staal plays center, more minutes, and kills penalties. He is a much better player and stays healthy.
-
no it isnt. It was elite scoring money three years ago. Have you seen the number of guys making 7million a year? Honest if it is 7 for 7 it would be a deal. In three more years there are going to be like 100+ players making over 7 a year.
What? that's how much Malkin, Datsyuk etc are making. Stamkos is only making 8. Yet 7x7 is a deal for a checking line winger???
-
I guess I disagree with what he can bring to the table both statistically and mentally. 7million per for 7years for Callahan just doesn't make sense even for us.
If Callahan is such an incredible leader, and leadership is so important, then why are the Rangers so decidedly average? And I also don't think he helps make Buffalo a a place players want to come, because I don't think UFAs sit at home thinking how much they'd like to play with Callahan one day. He's not Crosby...or even Eric Staal, really.
It's an absurd amount of money for a 3rd line winger to provide leadership. A contract like that will kill us down the road if we become a contender and have a 34 winger who is a checking line player make $7M and you need to add a piece.
We can get quality veteran leadership without significantly overpaying for a deteriorating player
-
I dont think it would be wise to give Callahan $6M+ for a 7 year deal, which is what hes asking. The guy is a grinder with a career high 54points. He doesnt stay healthy and doesn't address the inability to score.
I would certainly hesitate to give out a contract that will hamper this team in the long term. He's a third line player with the Rangers already, and is only playing 17 mins a game.
-
Not to announce during stadium series is silly. There are several games this year and you dont hold up an arguably blockbuster trade for a week and risk injury.
I too know people on inside (no they dont feed me secret pre-trade info generally) and this goes against how a club operates.
-
See here's the issue: compliance/amnesty buyouts, unless I'm mistaken, can only be used at the end of this year. After that in order to jettison Leino the Sabres either have to find a trade partner or normal-buyout which cuts into the cap. I don't know who is going to trade for him, and I'd hate if a few years down the road that cap penalty would be killing the team from bringing a good trade or UFA.
Buy Leino out with one of the two compliance boyouts, and give some scrub a 1-year $6M contract (John Scott!) each year until we need the space for a UFA worth that money.
We can only hope the second coming of the glass princess, Connolly, I mean Leino doesnt get "hurt" at the end of the season so we cannot buy him out.

No one will get traded today. or tomorrow. or on wednesday.
Smart take.

Not sure what you are even referring to on support. Boots are so hard these days, there is nothing BUT support in them. Unless you are wearing skates from 1975.
I can see where he's going with this. He's referring to cheap used skates that are beat up or were fitted for someone else with little support.
Not sure if I chimed in on this thread yet referring to the OP, but good fit is CRUCIAL. When I worked in the shop, that was one of the first things I learned how to do- fitting people properly for skates. Years later, I still fit a lot of my friends for skates, because no one wants to trust Zitty McFitwrong.
Yea that's what I mean. Some aren't so hard or are so worn inside theres no cushion support inside. Ankles still cave in etc.
-
I'm not going to read every post in this thread so forgive me if I'm redundant. I've played "beer league" hockey for almost 30 years now. I've seen "noobs" join teams. Some improve dramatically, others never do. The one thing I've observed is that you have to get to the point where you aren't thinking about your skating. Skating pretty doesn't make you more effective. I've seen guys who look like they are on the verge of going down with every stride still make great plays. It's all about desire and effort. Pickup games are fine but there is nothing like playing in a competitive league. Also have you considered playing goal?
PTR
Yes.
I also can't overstress how important proper fitting skates are to being the best skater and improving. I've seen noobs in beer leagues with cheapo skates with no support left, or too big. I've even seen a guy who wore ankle braces inside his skates!!!
A noob needs to build up some ankle strength but also needs support in the right places. So it's very important to get fitted by someone who knows what they are doing, not a freshman in high school working at great skate pushing a brand.
It's a lot worse here in the South where noobs have no chance really.

I wonder if Murray does anything before the Olympics. Might take a bit for him to assess the situation.
Could be but these guys come into the interview process with a full breakdown of the roster. They are asked about their assessment of the team during thei nterview process.
But it may take him some time to get a better feel for the team. The FA situation is the most curious for me.

Vancouver was NHL sized ice...not true Olympic/Euro size.
that's true. He does have decent speed however.
Keep in mind that it's the Olympics. Pommer's forechecking is just fine; excellent, in fact. He's not great in the corners, but he's not horrible, either. Olympic teams don't need black eye/missing tooth guys.
Watch him go around Alfie again and tell me he's not fast. He changes gears almost imperceptibly, is all.
Now, who to sit in his place, that's a good argument.
Absolutely. Instead, they worried about hurting Jimmy's feelings, it seems.
That was one time, anecdotal. He isnt a speedy player and doesn't really excel in any area enough to make him Olympic worthy.
Again, he wasn't even considered by the best hockey minds. That should tell you enough.
-
And yet, they had no trouble selecting Orpik on D.
Less talent overall on D, and Orpik does well enough on the big ice. Was fine in Van '10
-
Pominville is faster than he looks (he's smooth, so he doesn't look like he's busting ass even when he's moving as fast as someone who isn't as smooth), and I suspect the same of Ryan, too.
I would think Pominville would do well on big ice.
But I guess I wouldn't pick him for the team either.
I still don't think Miller deserves to be the third goalie. Howard shouldn't even be on the team.

He is smooth but isnt really fast or agile. He just isnt a high level international player. He wasn't really even considered. That said he's a really good NHL player.
Also, I'm not sure what RW I would sit in place of Pommer
-
I cannot fathom how Ryan didn't make the team. I thought he was a lock.
They didnt like his skating..... same as pommers. If anyone has played on Olympic ice you know just how much more room there is and the importance of mobility.

Paul Hamilton confirming the rumor that Ted Nolan will be in as coach. DR's role up in the air.
Where the hell is Hasek?? Is he in and Miller out???
-
Hacked account, right? RT @TBNbucky: Now hearing that Darcy and Rolston are out, LaFontaine in and possibly Ted Nolan returning as coach.
This is one of the issues with Twitter, this seems possible but ultimately is not what is happening.
My beef with the BN boys, they act like little children except Vogl. It what keeps them from being respected like the guys at TSN
-
Its LaFontaine, just got text from friend in know.
-
Unless it's about Rolston, Regier or Miller this shouldn't be called major.
Agreed. A new position without a blockbuster name ............ isnt major.
-
What qualifies LaFontaine as President of Hockey Operations?
People on this board have heard of him.
-
One more tidbit:
Report on #Sabres MT @JSportsnet: Sounds like Buffalo will announce creation of new position - President of Hockey Operations
Yawn, why is that major?
And way for them to scoop all the whiny local "pro" reporters.
-
Major news conference at 10:30 today.
If this is about the waterfront.........someone is getting hurt.
-
They're denying him bail pending trial, huh? I still think ten games.
Preseason games? :w00t:

That's TOI per game. So it accounts for that.
