  1. Well, now, wait a sec. I think GoDD's point is a finer one. I think he's potentially in favour of over-paying for an inner-core-of-one (does a team go out as far as stiff mantle?), but he's pointing out that paying for that guy will limit other choices you can make.

These are things that I am confident GM TM has considered, and has sketched out in his (evolving) long-term plan. GM TM just needs to bet on the right horses.

    Good stuff.

But there are presently just the two players with cap hits of $10M, yeah? And a few others at $9M?

    Yes

I'm fine with O'Reilly. You can average him in with guys like Deslauries and Georges. 3 men at an average of 4 mil. On pace for the cap.

If you are going to give Ristolainin 7 mil, and he is just a 2~3 type of dman, good luck finding a true 1 for 10 mil and a true 1 center if Eichel is just another good player.

    It's like picking a spouse.

If she's hot, odds are she can't cook and is somewhat demanding. If you are going to marry a 185lb Buffalo girl, it's all good if she's funny, can cook, and give a good bj.

O'Reilly is the good fattie. Ristolainen is sort of hot, but always needs to consult his mom on every decision and talks with a vocal fry.

  2. I really don't want to get into the whole "white collar/ business/ ponzie crime thing but........Adelphia is a business story that plays out countless times a day and the only thing that separates the crooks from the success stories is timing. I personallly know of at least three extremely successful business operations in WNY that were days away from being found out as "ponzie" schemes that flipped their "fortunes" and never looked back.

JR was like several entrepreneurs that built a company, went public but continued to run it old school and then turned it over to a thieving, conniving son.

    I hear you.

    Not a saint by far.

If you aren't drowning puppies or molesting children, I think a merciful person can come to grips with a peaceful death.

  3. So the Sabres won't be one of the all-time dynasties. These are the cats Murray is going to hitch his wagon to, among others. The die is cast. Being skeptical of the kids makes sense, but you don't believe in O'Reilly either?

I said O'Reilly was the top of the actual core.

I'm just saying if you want to give Ristolainin that type of money, you are burning 20% of your cap right there. You have to admit that you are overpaying O'REILLY for intangibles and to get him to sign a contract off of the trade. On pure talent and scoring potential he isn't worth that much. It gives you less wiggle room to be wrong on other big contracts.

  4. Well then, it doesn't really matter now, does it?

    True

The guy seemed half fried 20 years ago which is why I tend to believe the posters who say the son was the real crook.

I won't fight for his release. Just think it isn't a slap in the face to anyone in this case. The Esteemed President Barack Hussein Obama traded 5 top murderers for a treasonous hippie who willingly abandoned his platoon and got some of them killed. A 90 year old who got carried away with his shiny new toy sitting in a diaper with a morphine drip while getting a little sunshine through his own bedroom window for a few weeks isn't going to offend me.

  5. While I have a proclivity to come to the defense of hard working veterans who are under public attack as young and non grizzled players are given a pass and idolized, I can't argue against anyone saying Moulson has been close to worthless this year.

He was always an opportunist at the least, and a bit of a gritty sniper who is willing to take a beating in front of the crease. He brought a confidence to his game and an upbeat energy to his teammates.

So what is going on? Is there a big life change or personal problems that are distracting him? I remember Drew Stafford getting a pass for a poor season because of the ill health of a relative. Marcell Dareus was given a pass because his brother was killed. What could be distracting Moulson to the point he loses almost all worth?

I believe he has a new person living in his home with him. I see people here speculating as to why Eichel seems disinterested and personal life problems have him in a funk. I see some lighthearted poking at Bogosian that some of his issues may be due to white powder.

So I ask seriously....do you think bringing Jack Eichel into his life 24/7 may have Moulson distracted and or concerned?

  6. I don't get a GM paycheck anymore. And Bank of America can suck my.....

Something around $3B stolen from investors. If he did that with a note saying he had a bomb this wouldn't be a conversation.

    I'm sorry.

Wasn't singling you out just using examples of all the ways the public has money taken from them without choice by the government and criminals are rewarded let alone not punished.

People willingly invested in Adelphia and people could willingly short Adelphia because they didn't believe in it.

I am fine with showing a little mercy to a 90 year old in his last few days. If it involved violence then no. The poor guy probably doesn't even know where he is at this point.

  7. Ah yes....the "victims" ......

You know, with a little bit of research on the Owner of the Buffalo Sabres, you could have just as easily sold short the stock of Adelphia and made money.

    That's tinfoil thinking though.

Yeah....let the 90 year old cancer patient fry! But make sure you get your GM paycheck directly deposited into your Bank of America account so you have federal reserve notes to give to a hydrofracker from State College for a jersey made by 8 year olds in a country responsible for loaning money to fund your pension so you have it in time for December 25th to give to a partner on the day of the birth of a saviour that you don't believe in.

  8. Oh my.

Aud....am I allowed to post that pdf?

Also, the majority of videos, cds, novels and romance and mystery books are all donated by the public. Funding goes into things like children's summer reading programs, public internet access, and the nonfiction collection.

  9. Good for you. Why do you feel others have to spend their money the same way you do?

Seriously. Can you think of any legitimate reason for this? So many people say it but I've never heard a legitimate argument for the restriction.

    There's no restriction.

I think most adults who buy jerseys are going to get the jersey of a nice fella. The Pommers, the Millsie, the Myers, etc. It's their way of showing support. Family guys....probably have a young kid or two.

If you are college age then jerseys are cool. I really don't care though who wears what.

  10. I think Jack is just not quite where we want him to be physically. Sure, he looks like a man, but he's really still only 19. He may not have the cliche'd "NHL strength" yet.

Ummm.....someone may have wanted to put the kibosh on this series of videos then.

Shall we go back to the combine talk and how Eichel was by far the best physical specimen in the draft?

I think we may done been sold a Townie....

  11. My oldest stepson (he's 14), won his weight class at the county wrestling tournament on Saturday. My wife made him start wrestling in May and he was totally against it. It was either that or military school, as we had just had enough. He started training with a local club during the summer and went undefeated this Middle School season, 11-0, winning every match but one by pin. He's only lost one match, and that was his first ever match in an AAU tournament, but he's never been pinned. He ran right through his bracket in the tournament and we couldn't be prouder of him. It's also helped turn his grades around, going from D's to B's, and far fewer behavior problems.

    Good stuff.

  12. I don't get the idea you can't wear the jersey of a player who's younger than you. Am I misreading that?

It's just a tad creepy to me.

If I see Aaron Rodgers in person I am not going to ask for an autograph or probably do anything but nod.

If I see Bart Starr, I am going to shake his hand and thank him for the memories and service/commitment.

Rodgers is probably a better QB and has had as much success. He's still a kid.

I am Packer neutral, just have actually had the experience. The old guys played when I was a kid and for relative peanuts. Better stories, better memories, stronger men. I never even saw Starr play a live game.

  13. That's an interesting idea. And when he does dish it to his wings, well, those guys have shown they can score (with ROR) as well as any other winger this year outside of that top line.

    Thanks

Yeah, they can both skate and score a little. Protection as well.

You never have a mismatch then. All the lines can play defense and have some playmaking and sniper. If you can find another top 3 dman, do the same in back. Ristolainen- Georges, Bogosian- Pysyk, New Guy - Franson/Weber/McCabe depending on the team you play.

Your skill guys still get extra minutes on the powerplay and the PK can roll as usual. Hopefully it keeps guys fresh longer into games and the season.

  14. He'll clean up some of that when he figures out what works and what doesn't. But that's always going to be who he is. You don't want to coach that out of him. If you thought you were getting an overly physical player who plays with a nasty edge, I can see why you're disappointed.

I hope so. I agree with most now that him and Kane on the same line are a waste.

Either Eichel is so brilliant that nobody else can understand him thus no assists, or Eichel is playing too much dipsy doodle on his own.

Until it gets figured out Id still keep him on the power play because it is a slow half court game, but Id put him on a line with Foligno and Deslauriers. Why waste playmakers on a line with him if he is going to coast to coast it all the time and take perimeter shots? Give him a couple of guys who can skate but will go to the dirty area to pick up rebounds and set screens. You could then roll 4 lines that are all above average and compliment each other.

    Eichel- Foligno-Deslauriers

    ROR-Kane-McGinn

    Girgs-Reinhart-Ennis

    Legwand-Moulson-Gionta

You can mix the combos, but all can score, play some defense, and have effort.

I'm not saying punish him, I'm saying admit what you have at this point and make the most of it.

  15. Truth.

Are you saying the linesmen for time immemorial have been calling it wrong?

I think you missed the point. And I think with the Eichel ball-washing bit you're just trying to make head cheese. I have no idea what that means, but I'm pretty sure I just out-grossed you. Your turn.

I like head cheese. You must not be in PA Dutch land.

I'm not just talking about Eichel. Ristolainen is a good player and making big strides. In fact I have more confidence in him now than I ever did in Myers.

Eichel is almost treating the game at times like it is the X-Games ski slalom. Sure the time counts, but he's trying to rack up freestyle points. Where's the supposed combine standout and guy who posted weightlifting videos online? So far his unicorn outfit is the perfect fit.

  16. You guys are all acting like fools trying to place blame on a particular player, when the truth is that in the game of hockey, as we have known it from the beginning of time until the implementation of this challenge abomination, that play is on-sides. End of story. It's not offsides without the challenge or intense video scrutiny, which means it's not offsides at all.

    Amen

I said it in the game thread....that play happens all the time. I didn't come in saying, "Way to blow a goal Eichel by going 87 degrees to the left at the last second while your teammates were starting to accelerate in anticipation of you keeping your pace."

I just came to the defense of an all too common pile on.

    There's an old hockey saying.....

Wash a man's balls and his sack will be clean for a day......Teach a man to wash his own balls and he will have a Hall-of-Fame .....

  17. Just saw the play.

    1. Eichel caused the offsides. Gionta probably had it timed perfectly. Never, ever make a move as you go over the blue line. Gionta was reading Eichel... Jack needs to keep his direction and speed.

    2. How about the ref gets one view of the replay? If it's not evident there it's too close to call.

I thank you for joining the coalition of the brave.

PA....if there is no move there is no goal......no sh#t! That's why there is a blueline. Odel Beckham can make a 60yd one handed catch in the end zone, but if he ran out of bounds at the 20 to avoid contact on the route, it's no good. Skill is only as good as the results within the structure. The world's greatest yodeler isn't going to take many gigs from Pavarotti.....

  18. You are spot on with this. I said the same thing when it happened. He made them all wait.

Even earlier he should have passed it to Kane who was ahead of their D.

I'm not a hockey coach, but I would think with 10~15 seconds left on a transition, these guys are expecting him to gain the redline and fire it in, either having first dibs at a retrieval, or a freeze with 5 seconds left to set up a play.

The only reason McCabe was there was because he has situational awareness. 5 minutes in the period and he doesn't rush.

If people want to watch a one man ballet, then fine. Maybe there is a reason the guy is on pace for 13 assists on the season...

At least Ristolainen is playing within the system and his teammates. I just say hold your horses on making him into a star. It was fun watching Lucic get frustrated with Ristolainen though. He got Hedman too a few weeks ago.

If Eichel keeps dipsy doodling he is going to get leveled soon. He leaves himself vulnerable with all the half spins and backhand cutesiness.
