  1. Any point of view is defensible, it's just a matter of whether the POV is more chatter to add to the din of discontent or whether it is meaningful enough to stand out and warrant scrutiny. Not to harp on Iron Crotch, or anyone, really, who is not happy with the moves JBot has made, but I'd like to know what these voices/authors think JBot should do otherwise? I'm no fan of Schopp, but I can relate to his frustration with callers who throw out XYZ ideas without vetting those ideas first. It's the constant swirl of negative energy that gets old, and with Pegulas I'm convinced they at first were sensitive to it, hence the reason for the ridiculous moves the organization made the first three years or so. Someone made the point that exGMTM was an over-correction for exGMDR. I can buy that narrative seeing how things turned out. Murray wouldn't have made the moves JBot did, in my opinion. Indeed, I think Murray was out of ideas on what to do. Anyway, I think JBot has shown a little creativity and bravery so far. The D should be improved, and way more deep than the last several seasons. I think Kane would still be here if HE wanted to be here, and ROR would have been gone regardless. But now that both are gone, JBot is ready to trust his younger forwards more to get it done. That's brave, and outside the conventional wisdom you find in places like this and in the media.
  2. "Blind"? I think dudacek's summary is rather objective and reasonable, backed up by obvious facts. If anyone could GM a hockey team, as you're implying, why are the Sabres still in the basement? Why isn't the spread across the league measured in tenths or hundreds of a point, instead of whole points? I think if anyone is blind, it's those who look at stuff and find fault with it, but never try to offer alternatives. The-everything-is-just-wrong-because-it's-wrong crowd.
  3. Great post. Love the optimism. Depth and development have been sorely lacking long before the tank, and JBot is finally attempting to address both, at least it seems from out here. With the ages our core players are at, now, I'm hopeful we see the likes of Eichel, Reinhart, Risto, and frankly, Ullmark emerge as players capable of carrying a team. That's all we need, right now, is those four to take a step forward in their overall development. The changes, so far, ALMOST seem like they were made purposely to help this happen. I don't want to give JBot too much credit...not yet, at least, not until another season has passed. Then you have Mittelstadt and Dahlin starting their pro journey as this happens, I'm actually kind of jazzed about this coming season, unlike the past few off-seasons. As far as Nylander goes - I hope to God someone got fired for neglecting him. I know COR was moved because of what he did, but someone in the organization needs to keep a FAR closer eye on what's happening to these kids outside of the rink. I don't mind giving Nylander another two seasons to see if he can recover from what happened, but the Sabres need to help that kid out. The Sabres development method, process, strategy, whatever it is has reflected their on-ice play, in a weird way, just neglected, half-assed, and taken for granted. One of the signs of how well JBot is doing will be on how serious they take and refine player development - Nylander might actually be a test case.
  4. I agree with this take. I think Hutton has the right attitude, and could very well post better numbers with more frequent games. He's apparently just fine with being a mentor, which is one of the reasons he was hired, so...
  5. Actually, now that I think of it, ROR was the epitome of the Nolan Way. Hard work, persistence, always going. It made him miserable.
  6. How do you not use a face-off specialist when you have one? How do you not use a skilled two-way forward when you have one? Player usage in instances like this aren't black and white matters. ROR wasn't in the same category as Matty Mo, where doing whatever with him made sense. ROR can still play. If he can still play, then for the money he gets you put him out there. The Sabres needed wins - he's one of the best players on the team, you play him. What kind of lashing would Housley have received if he didn't use ROR for ROR's supposed strengths?
  7. The only thing the Sabres really lose in this is a face-off specialist. Otherwise, the tactics, assignments and roles will obviously change. Having ROR on your team forces you to rely on him, because, you have ROR on your team. Well, now they don't, and therefore the door is opened to change. In the case of the Sabres, change is definitely needed. On ROR's skill/talent: skill and talent are not synonymous with success and winning. I'm not suggesting the Nolan Way, but I am saying that there are many, many talented and skilled people in the world who can't get it together and become a success, or, at least, be a successful team player. Team building in any context is an art, Any person in a leadership capacity should know this. Getting a group together that is successful is the same no matter what the task. For kids sports teams, you have the tiers of talent; in business you try and hire correctly, rock bands; a professional kitchen - it's obvious after a while when someone doesn't fit. I think Mittelstadt did enough over the past week to help JBots with this decision. It'll be a young team out there - hopefully it'll be fun to watch.
  8. What a bunch of old bingo ladies. This trade makes total sense. Years of losing, and the last person here to fix it didn't get it done. JBots is trying a new direction. It's exactly what needs to happen if the Sabres are going to find a way out of the failure loop. What sucks is that fans may have to wait and see what happens, but for a supposed "hockey town" many fans seem pretty impatient and fairly ignorant of what it takes to make a hockey team work.
  9. Replace your power supply.
  10. Sailor Denied 'Clinton Deal', Gets 1 Year in Prison for 6 Photos of Sub Where is the equality of justice here? WHERE!? Defend this, zombies. Dude, this isn't a matter of CIA or Secret Service "hit lists". These are people who had information that could damage the Clintons directly. None of these deaths could in any way, superficially or otherwise, be connected to national security or law enforcement or whatever. These are mafia-style hits.

  12. Of course it wasn't. Obama sh*ts rainbows and kittens. Clinton's house is in a unicorn pasture. How's Bernie's new $600,000 new home? I bet the pay-off for supporting Hillary will make his retirement cozy. Oops, looks like Obama has done something for Louisiana after-all...it's so quaint he hasn't forgotten his community organizer roots. Obama irks La. flood victims with memo warning them not to discriminate You're a fool. SPORTS! It's all about framing like life a sports fan! Your team sucks, mine is great! Rah, rah, rah, sis boom bah! Nothing bad ever REALLY happens...evar.
  13. Dude. 2005. You may have been in diapers, but, this is a clear double-standard. And back at you with the eye-rolls... You are so stuck on defending the status-quo, in believing the hype-machine, in allowing yourself to be dup'd. Obama and the Clintons are victims of a psychotic right-wing mentality. You're ignoring the reality on the ground because, what, you want your "team" to win? How the hell is a biased and manipulative media good for our future? What about this: State Dept.: $400M to Iran was contingent on US prisoners’ release President Obama Violated the Law with His Ransom Payment to Iran Is this invalid and unimportant because of the sources? Your government is highly corrupt and corrupted. You are young, your future and your family's future is at stake here. You get all bent when someone brings up something negative against the democrats - it's obvious. They have you. You are among their tools. Hope it feels good.
  14. A democrat governor making the statement after-the-fact. How convenient. That hat is like '80s day-glo.
  15. Catastrophic Floods In Louisiana Have Caused Massive Housing Crisis Hello? Testing...1...2...3... Where is the outrage over, like, NO action by Obama or Clinton regarding the crisis in Louisiana? Did I miss the post somewhere in this thread? Louisiana paper to Obama: Cut vacation short Here’s why President Obama isn’t stopping his vacation to visit the Louisiana flooding So, hmm. What excuses do y'all have for not putting on your best Anti-Republican Team Hat and ignoring this obvious double-standard?
  16. FWIW, it happens to us middle agers, too. The market here is smaller than it looks online and there are a sh&t-ton of applicants. I can also tell you that there's a bias against free-lancing. I can tell you that if you are looking at front-end developer jobs, or even server-side coding jobs, if you are not 100% up with the latest frameworks and can talk about them like they were as obvious as rain, then you are at a severe disadvantage. If moving to Buffalo is what you want to do, I think you're left with three choices - keep trying to land a job in your field (from experience it's the definition of crazy), make an uncomfortable compromise, or start your own business and live with the consequences of that. Good luck! It's pretty challenging out there right now. If you decide starting your own business might be an option, PM me and I can give you further insight.
  17. Politics has been very good to Bernie Sanders. Sanders buys a Summer Home for $600k This is Sanders third home - only the well-off can afford multiple, expensive properties.
  18. Anyone seen this interview with Julian Assange from a few days ago? Absolutely fascinating...
  19. So, a lobotomy is an acceptable remedy for a headache. Got it.
  20. You don't even understand the science, do you? But you're a warrior for the cause regardless.
  21. This is how you are being scared and manipulated: Observe this chart... So, greenhouse gases are primarily, or, nearly completely, water vapor. But, you won't see this chart. What someone like K-9 will show you is a chart like this... And they won't show you a breakdown of the sources of C02, or go over the historical averages of naturally occurring CO2, they will point to a graph with questionable data, with fundamentally insignificant data if you factor in just the known temporal existence of modern man, let alone the age of the planet, and the graph will be crafted in a way to conclude somehow man is causing a rise in temperature. The rise in temperature, if you look, is a blip on the timelines that have been established - maybe a visible spike if you zoom in on the graph. And it's only half of one degree. But you're supposed to be scared. You're supposed to think the planet is doomed. But no one is telling you to stop using technology, are they? Because if you drop out, then you can't be manipulated. You are, though, supposed to vote a certain way, buy into certain technologies, conform to a certain way of thinking. K-9, why are you here if you believe this? You are contributing to the death of the planet - have you no shame? Who is really scaring people? The left scares you on the environment. Then they scare you into believing the right wants to take away your health care, and wants to, what, keep women down or something. Tell me again who uses scare tactics to manipulate the way you think. Don't say it's just the right.
  22. She's too savvy and experienced a politician to do something so egregious that the media would feel compelled to pick it up. So you have to rely on anecdotes and testimony from those on the inside. Like that local chef who has come out recently. You have to rely on "experts" and pundits making a big deal about it. But, unless it's picked up and plastered across Yahoo, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Huffington, MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and in the NYTs et al, it goes nowhere and those people, regardless of their veracity, are attacked, buried or ignored. You know this happens. Don't you believe in being exhaustive?
  23. Show me. Post it. Because you can hardly assemble a more credible set of scientists than they had in that documentary.
  24. How much of this is contextually accurate? How much of it would matter if it weren't plastered across every media outlet? Where is the equivalent micro-scrutiny of Clinton? The sources that do scrutinise the left are dismissed as biased, so where is the unbiased scrutiny? You, of all people, should be all over this stuff. You who digs into the dark crevasses of the team you claim to love and reports them regardless of the fallout. You who will apply cold reasoning to any Sabres situation and are not afraid to temper your criticisms. You are buying into all of this political garbage? I don't believe it for a minute.
  25. What's the evidence?
