More than anything I would love to believe they are on their last legs but I can’t see a scenario where Adams is fired. He’s the guy Terry trusts who has worked his way up and gained Terry’s ear and trust. Terry doesn’t trust NHL people anymore. And I can’t see him eating a year extension on Granato. Everything they have been doing seems to indicate cutting corners and saving $$$.

I don’t see Adams getting fired. He really is good organizationally and is ideally suited to be President with Karmonis taking over as GM. In an ideal world that would happen this year along with RBM taking over as highest paid coach in the league but there are a few reasons that won’t happen

Adams is Terry’s right hand man. Donny has a 3 year extension. They aren’t sweating at all. This is all part of “the process” that KA will spin to Terry.

Disagree but I understand that thinking as well.

I too fear anything that incentives extending the timeline.

Adams and Donny will barely make it through this offseason. There is virtually nothing that will make them believe they will make it through next off season without a playoff appearance. Nothing will incentivize them to delay anything.

No chance they make the playoffs next year. If they could not jump the garbage teams ahead of them this year, how the heck are they supposed to do it next year when they will all be much better.

You need to read the Athletic article about all six teams around them. The teams around them are most likely taking a step back. Pittsburgh and Washington are stuck in that purgatory where they are trying to keep icons happy, the Islanders are aging and loaded with bad contracts, Philly will likely take a step back as they rebuild, even Tampa is showing signs of aging.

I am as frustrated as anyone but  I realize a lot of the anger with the four years of Adams and Granato has more to do with the nine years that preceded them. The Sabres are still the youngest team in hockey and don’t need a major overhaul.

Well the results around Skinner's career say otherwise. Perhaps we'd surge to the top tier just like Carolina did.

Again, that’s nonsense. Blaming Skinner for all the woes of the teams he’s been on is beneath you. You obviously are a lot smarter then someone that would leap to this conclusion but if that’s how you want to end the discussion fine.

Of course not, but then again, it doesn't take much to tip a scale one way or the other.

The locker room argument is long and won't get us anywhere so no point to that (I'm sure we disagree) but you could simplify it by wondering how many points/games can any one player cost you and maybe that's enough.

I saw a study once pointing out how goal scorers even with the worse defensive metrics still positively effected their team’s outcome by the virtue of how hard it is  to score in the NHL. Maybe if I’m bored one day I’ll find it.

I personally think he lacks a work ethic and it rubs off on the rest of the locker room. We need some hard "subtractions" like Philly did to start their rebuild.

Skinner is simply too inconsistent and he plays like an individual. He is, as has been said in the past, uncoachable. He will quit on a play at any time, he will be out of position at any moment, and most of all he will giveaway the puck at the worst moments. I have said it before and I hold to it. We will not win until Skinner is gone.

Yes, like Alexander Mogilny, Dave Andreychuck and Jack Eichel would never win the Cup.

Still irritating to see the Flyers and Caps with negative goal differentials holding the last 2 playoff spots at -6 and -27 while the Sabres and Red Wings at +3 are both outside looking in right now.  Islanders also ahead of the Sabres at -20.  WTF...

I still think the Flyers are one of the teams that will fall out of the race. Trading them EJ was a 4D chess move and should be the grease that slide needed.

So it will be a coincidence that Stone’s injury happened to heal just as the playoffs are starting?

Stone might be done. I have no problem with what Vegas is doing unless it can be proven they are faking injuries.

  10. Adams said at the deadline press conference that they would be careful with him and not rush him. If it’s up to him, he’ll play when ready. The team will only let him play if they are comfortable he’s ready. My guess is he only plays if they are in the playoff race.

The trading of Casey had a number of facets to it that went beyond the talents of a particular player. It dealt with the cap configuration and the length of his prospective contract. Casey was having a good year that increased his market value. It's a business. His cost for us was going to be high. Another facet to the Mitts deal had to do with altering the mix/balance of the roster. We got a legitimate first or second pair defenseman who had offensive skills. This was simply a good hockey trade for each of the trading teams.

I've heard Granato talk about Krebs on a number of occasions. It appears to me that he has a higher opinion of him and his potential than many here have. Is he going to be better than Mitts? I'm more inclined to say no. That's not to say that he won't become a credible third center with better wingers. That's an open question for me.

With respect to your postulation that the Krebs issue falls within the GM's philosophy of promoting within: Absolutely so. There's no question about it. The GM's often stated view is that it is better to build from within when you can without giving up assets. There's no hidden agenda here. For the most part, what he says he is going to do is exactly what he is doing.

Coming from a Mitts afficionado (me), from the little I have seen of Byram, I like this deal. You give up value to get value.

It’s really kind of simple, if both players play their perceived potential, the Sabres got a top pairing defenseman for a second line center.

When did the NHL start making recommendations?   Never heard of this.

What recommendation did Murray get?  LaFontaine picked him

Boterill was from another Pittsburgh connection.

The Adam’s hiring  was the only the person Terry actually knew before he was hired as GM.

    A) The NHL, like all leagues provide suggestions on hiring and it’s a public knowledge that TPEGS consulted with them prior to both Housley and JBOT hirings

    B) Murray was a rising star given a lot if credit for his work with Anaheim and obviously had a lot of league ties because of family.

    C) Krueger was extremely well thought of throughout the league. The Canadian press especially applauded the move as most thought he got shafted in Edmonton.

    D) Lafontaine was extremely respected throughout the league until it became clear he didn’t have temperament for the job.

Its all in black and white if you want to spend the time going through old newspaper clippings.

Come on man.  The historical level of losing should be proof enough.  Look at the experience and quality of the leaders he selects to run the team.   Do you know how this franchise is viewed across the league?

Maybe he hasn’t abandoned them, but he hasn't done anything to make this team better in any way.  Almost every decision he makes is worse than his prior decisions.  By far the worst owner that the Sabres ever had, and his record is the worst of any NHL owner ever.

While you can’t argue that TPEGS decisions haven’t worked, Kevyn Adams was the only hiring that was out of the blue with no recommendation from the league.

  14. I don’t know why anyone is upset about Vegas unless you think they are faking injuries. I wish every sport allowed teams to go over the cap if injuries left you unable to compete.
It does make me laugh at those who think the Sabres should be worried about salary cap restraints.
