  1. I never thought the Sabres lost in 2007 because of lack of toughness. They were not beat up in that series with Ottawa - the one they lost. They outhit Ottawa....they just got outplayed. I don't think they would have beat Anaheim. But Ottawa won that series at center ice. Not in the corners. Buffalo lost that series on the PP. 2 for 30 in the series. 10%

2 for 30 on the PP. Toughness don't mean dick if you are 2 for 30 on the PP.

But repeat it long enough and it becomes something else. 12 Mike Griers wouldn't have helped.

2007 - Center Ice....and the PP. I'm sticking with it.

2 for 30 on the PP.

    Word.

(obviously my, ahem....math doesn't help my point. I meant 6.67 % on the PP. Toughness can still mean dick at 10% PP. But it definitively don't mean dick at 6.67%)

    Thank you.

  2. The scary thought for me is Miller Mania making its way to Terry (he already said he wants him to retire a Sabre), and Terry making some kind of power play with PLF and TM. "An offer Miller can't refuse." That's a bad scenario on several fronts. More meddling. Another yes man as GM. Trying to build a contender around Miller (again). Financial implications down the road when the team might be good again. More WTF waves. More threads like this with terrible titles. And so on.

Wow you really work hard to have an answer that fits your narrative.

  3.

Most of what you just said there, I have said the exact same thing.......... repeatedly. Just like every other poster you want to twist my words in order to protect Wonder Boy. His 5v5 stats don't fluctutate much, but as has been pointed out, they aren't that good. He consistently is average to slightly above average for three years. His atttiude sucks. He is part of the core that everybody wanted to eliminate. Read what I have to say for a change and stop twisting my words. We might actually get somewhere.

For the record, over the last three years combined, Enroth has a better 5v5 save percentage.

I really don't want to become part of the argument but I can't let the "his attitude sucks" go by . His teammates have regularly voted him their MVP and constantly talk him up both publicjy, and privately in every conversation I have ever had with any of them and take it for what it's worth but that is not always the case when they discuss other teammates

  4.

you think you can get 4top six forwards in a year or two? Maybe in development but not ready to roll.

First, I said 3. The fourth player would be a goalie to replace Miller.

I expect TM to trade some of his assets for a couple of top 6 forward prospects to go with Hodgson and Girgs, a draft pick and. 1 or two FA signings. You add in one or two guys coming up out of all the draft choices to add depth and you won't even remember the names of 9 or 10 of the forwards that are playing now.

  5.

So, approximately 1.5 goals per game for Miller and 1.3 goals per game for Enroth. Considering the Sabres are averaging 1.97 goals per game, who is the lucky goaltender that gets all the support?

The team is only averaging 1.8 goals after you subtract out goals awarded for shoot outs so how significant could difference between Miller be? Bigger then the difference between shots against when each goaltender plays?

  6.

I really don't see them moving Toffoli either. But if a deal with them really is going down this early then he COULD be involved. Only way you make a deal this early is if you get blown away (from a sellers standpoint).

Like I said a couple of pages ago, it shouldn't surprise anyone if Miller is the one moved tomorrow. Once they decided he wouldn't sign, moving him before Olympics became a goal.

  7. Just for poops and giggles: it would seem a bit early for a Moulson trade -- I think the Sabres will be best suited to let the bidding frenzy work itself to a peak so they can get the best return.

If there is a trade coming, it would also seem like Edmonton, where the house is really on fire, is the team most likely to do something desperate.

If it is Edmonton, it almost certainly not be for Miller, who most likely wouldn't waive his NTC to go there. It would probably be one of their forwards for one or more of our defensemen.

Edmonton would probably rather trade Yakupov or Gagner than any of their other high-end forwards. I remain quite skeptical that they will trade Eberle -- I think it's more likely that the GM would get canned before that would happen -- but it's not impossible.

So that leaves Yak and Gagner. I don't think the Sabres would trade Myers, Risto or Zadorov for either of those 2, but I do think Ehrhoff is a possibility, as well as Pysyk. The Oilers aren't going to trade either of those 2 without a legit top-4 defenseman coming back (and wouldn't it be nice to have Sekera handy now for that trade?). Pysyk has an Edmonton connection -- he was captain of his junior team, which was in Edmonton.

Pysyk for Gagner? Or maybe Pysyk and a #2 for Yak?

I would do either of those.

Why would we want Gagner ? No way you can have Hodgdon and Gagner as two of your top 3 centers on a championship team. Murray won't bring in anyone who doesn't have top 6 potential, fits with Hodgson and Girgs or can be flipped.

  8. That Rabi guy who reported the upcoming trade for the Sabres apparently broke McKee being out with a Staph Infection in 2006 without anybody else knowing anything about it. If that's all... It's been a while since he broke anything. I won't hold my breath yet.

I post that Miller might be moved before the Olympics now Garrioch and some Rabbi are taking stabs in the dark. I might have to start my own blog.

  9. Here's my proposal:

Edm receives: Buf 2nd rounder 2014, LA 2nd rounder 2014, Stafford, McNabb, Enroth

    Buf receives: Eberle,

It may need some tweaking but I don't want to rid o Ehrhoff unless there's a vet D-man we can sign in the offseason. I also don'twant Myers crushed by the additional pressure placed on his shoulders.

You are not getting Eberle for that crap . A back up goalie, a. 6th or 7th defenseman, a journeyman winger and a couple of picks that have less then a. 10% chance of making it.

  10. Ron might be a hot AHL candidate this offseason. Wonder what that's about.

He also might be scouting for the Sabres since he is still being paid by them.

I think, perhaps, the Miller "situation" will be dictated, in part, by what happens in Sochi. If Miller wins a gold, not only does his value go up, but he also wins a championship. Maybe for Miller, a gold in the Olympics would be enough for him to stick around Buffalo and shoot for a Cup with the team he is loyal to. He also earns a nice contract.

If he doesn't win a gold, then he may want to wind up on a contender and get his championship that way. He may be willing to accept less of a contract to ensure he gets placed on a contending team.

I was thinking along these lines also till about two days ago. I believe that the Sabres really wanted to sign Miller to a new deal and were prepared to offer him King Henrik money but have come to the conclusion that that won't happen. Further, I believe they have decided that it will look worse if they traded him if he comes home a USA hero and therefore will trade him in the next two weeks, perhaps as early as next week.

  11. If Miller doesn't sign on the dotted line before the trade freeze then trade him. Nothing other than a 100% yes, he's resigning means he has to go. And the only way I see him resigning is if he wins the cup this season.

You don't have to worry about that. Black said it again today. Worst case scenario is letting any expiring contract walk for nothing.

  12. Physical with some offensive ability? The Canucks have no need for those qualities come playoff time.

Kassian is giving the Canucks exactly what they needed when they traded for him. His value is on the rise. B-)

Interesting that Kassian is considered physical yet him and Stafford have the same number of hits in the same number of games.
  13.

Kleiner is a bit of a fan favorite here in Nashville, so fans down here might not like this trade. Klein is a very solid d-man.

The reason for doing this from the Preds standpoint is simple. Weber, Klein, and Jones are all natural right-side defensemen. When Seth Jones fell to Nashville in the draft it made moving Klein an option. Del Zotto plays the left side. So this gives the Preds Weber & Josi, and Jones & Del Zotto as their top two pairs - all playing their natural side.

Not sure why the move from the Rangers standpoint... Del Zotto a bit of an underachiever, I guess...

Dreger says Rangers have been looking for a right handed defenseman for awhile

  14.

Certainly. I'm banking on the Caps and Blues doing a bit of bidding back and forth. You just don't want to push too hard and end up having one drop out too early, and you don't want to make either team feel like they're being "used."

Take it for what it's worth but DR was reportedly asking for two 1st, a 2nd and a prospect with a top 6 ceiling. Some less then reputable sources have reported that as TM's starting point.
