  1. He talked about EJ saying that the Eagles wanted it. He was the one that was talking about that report the most. For the record, I was a huge Mike Glennon leading up to the draft. I stopped pulling for him when it became clear that he wasn't going early. Turns out he's the only one from this class that showed any promise this year.

Even the best reporters come out and say to take everything they report in the days just before and after the draft with a grain of salt as most information is just teams/agents posturing.

A good example of this is Bruce Campbell of Maryland a few years back. He had a solid combine and suddenly he went from a fringe draftee to a first rounder. Leading up to the draft there were experts saying he was almost a lock to go in the top 10 to the Raiders and that the Raiders really loved him. Turns out the Raisers loved him, and they did draft him... In the 4th round. The Bills might've fallen for what the agents try to do to reporters and teams. Maybe the report had some truth to it. Nobody knows for certain, but I'm willing to bet it was the former.

Yeah Mike Glennon looked awesome against Buffalo, didn't he? He hardly looked much more promising then Manuel. Had some better TD numbers but had a lot better receivers to throw to. He won 4 out of 13 starts, EJ 4 out of 10.

There is no way to know if you could collect on a bet about EJ's draft status but I will bet you any terms you want that Manuel is a better player in three years then Glennon.

There is always a certain about of gamesmenship and selling going on. A better example is Drew Rosenhaus faking a phone call with Willis McGahee. It doesn't really matter in the end. I'm sure you would agree that if the Bills' truly believe that Manuel is a franchise QB it would have been foolhardy to take a chance that someone would take him before their 2nd round pick. Whether they are right will determine their fate in the end. If the draft was an exact science, KC wouldn't have taken Steve Fuller instead of Joe Montana and Tom Brady wouldn't have lasted till the 6th round. You have to take your guy when you have the shot and hope you are right.

  2.

I've heard Pettine talk about how versatile Kiko is but they couldn't move him around because of the need at MLB.

    Thanks, I hadn't heard that .

It wasn't the experts that were reporting it. It all grew from Manuel saying that the Browns and Eagles really wanted him. Good move for him to push himself up the draft board. When it comes to the NFL draft, I believe very little that is reported in the few days before and after. It's all agents pushing their own prospects up.

I consider Sal Pal pretty connected when it comes to Eagles and I remember him reporting on it right after the pick

  3. I've heard this and I don't buy it one bit. I don't think the Browns or Eagles were taking Manuel. I wish they would've, but I don't believe the rumors about that.

So you choose to believe the so called experts when they give you their informed opinion of a prospect but you choose no to believe them when they report on draft gossip?

  4. There pretty much isn't anything the Bills don't need.

My end of the year assessment is that:

Kiko, Goodwyn and Woods were good draft picks.

Do more of that. I'd like to see a true run stuffing DL, OLB and TE be high picks. They could also use a franchise OT.

I would start Thad Lewis and never look back (at least for next year). I have really soured on EJ.

I'm truly amazed Kiko did not get hurt this year. He might be the only true, blue chip football player on the team.

One thing that surprised me is that John Murphy mentioned that Bills would like a true MLB and move Kiko to the outside. I haven't heard that anywhere else but seems to make sense.

  5.

To draw what conclusion? That this was the consensus talk about EJ before the draft and when the pick happened and that I am just repeating that?

The Bills talked about trading down again but decided not to because of rumors that Philly would take Manuel. Manuel might have lasted till the 2nd round , he never would have lasted till the third.

I have no idea if Manuel will develop into a franchise QB, no one does. Hell after last year Griffin and Kapernick were sure fire franchise guys and now their teams aren't so sure. The notion that anyone knows for sure about any QB other then Luck before they play at least three years is laughable.

  6. Don't worry about it. It didn't really mean anything. I was just noting that you're going to sources via email to check out this case.

Well, so far no one seems to know for sure or is willing to go on record anyway. Kris Baker actually thinks you are right about at the draft but the other three guys all seem to think it is within 48 hours after the lottery. Not sure why the Sabres' won't go on record.

  7. This does not hurt Pysyk and could help him. What it does do is allow Nolan to get a longer look at his bottom defensemen without having to sit Pysyk which clearly does him no good at all. They have flexibility to send him down, keep him playing, so that is the logical move. The Sabres will likely move one or more of Weber, McBain, and Sultzer before year end as part of a package or outright waiver so you might want to make sure you know what you have if you are Nolan.

As I said before, it takes a big chunk out of his paycheck, so it does hurt him. Its part of the deal, however, and the players seem to deal with it.

  8. Just looked at the Islanders' schedule -- they have lost 18 out of their last 21 (and 2 of their 3 wins in that stretch have come in the shootout). Vanek has 6 goals in 19 games there, btw.

    Holy mackerel.

I think it's safe to say that Vanek won't be re-signing there.

I had a conversation the other day on how this can end well for Snow. No way he gets a 1st and 2nd and a player back for Vanek. Any trade makes him look bad, real bad but it is the Islanders. I really think there is a chance of them imploding next year making their pick much more likely to be in play for worst in the league.

Only way he cleanses it out is he gets a #1 for Vanek and resigns Moulson and even then he still loses because it will be a high#1.

  9.

I don't think thats how it is intended. And I'm willing to bet thats now Pysyk is taking it.

Kid: we want you to go down get experience and you're going to play in the Spengler Cup. When it's over you're coming back to Buffalo and will remain here as long as your performance merits it.

    Kid: Cool!

Not sure if you heard Nolan say that he won't be down long but he did. This is all positive if you can past not seeing him here for a few weeks. This can only improve him and I think this is a great move on their part.

I'm thinking the cut in pay might not be so easily brushed off but on just a jaded, old capitalist

  10.

I doubt it's a league rule. I would think past examples would be used when putting these types of stipulations on it.

Exactly but anytime someone asks about it, you jump in with a definitive answer. To answer your previous question, I don't require multiple forms of proof,

But don't link anecdotal evidence and call it proof. As a long time member of this board I have seen it before where mis-information is written enough times that it becomes factual and them we spend half a thread trying to dispel the mis-information.

I have sent e-mails to people that should know and should respond either confirming what I have been told, what you have written or something totally different. Trust me, I will acknowledge if you are correct. I have no trouble admitting when I'm wrong.

  11.

No. This is different. Protections in the NBA are clean-cut. If the pick is lottery protected then it the other team doesn't get the pick the second that team misses the playoffs. In this situation the team gets to make a decision while the draft is going on.

I'm still not sure this is a hard fast NHL rule. I have been told that there is no set NHL rule and every trade sets its own parameters as to when the deferral is required. The article you cite doesn't really clarify this even though you continue to state it as fact.

  12. I really don't want a 2nd or 3rd round receiver. If all the 1st round talent is gone when they pick (how could it be) then take the best TE or LB. No guards in the first round please.

Obviously a lot depends on free agency but I would guess priorities are

    Right Tackle

    Left guard

    OLB

    TE

    #1 Receiver

Not necessarily in that order and I agree, no way a guard in the first round
