  1. Reading the Canes board, I find it kind of funny that we Sabres fans are full of excuses. This actually seems to be what I've heard from Canes fans other places as well.

Is their understanding of the game so superficial that they don't think losing 4 of your top 6 defensemen is going to have an effect on the outcome?

  2. Had a blast watching that one on the DVR after class tonight! It's funny, I was just mentioning to someone the other day that the scariest part about the Sabres was that they were winning and not playing up to their potential. Tonight, they played up to their potential. I am a very happy camper.

And in response to one of the posts above, they did say on Vs. that the new jerseys are the best selling jersey's in the NHL...and NHL merch sales are up 85% over last year!!

  3. Does Marty get the start tonight?

    Um Why?

Miller is the starter, Marty is the backup. Marty got his last start on the second night of a back to back, the 3rd in 4 nights. The team has had 2 days off, Miller should be well rested.

If it were up to me, I would start Marty against the Bruins on Saturday night. Give Marty one night of every back to back, and use him here and there the rest of the season.

  4. Here's a 2-day old update on Kasparitis: http://www.nypost.com/seven/10122006/sport...an_grossman.htm

Looks like things aren't so happy in that locker room. However, it seems possible that he could play, esp. given their loss the other night. If he plays, here's hoping Peters pulverizes him and certain posters then give Peters some credit.

Honestly I think Reney is making the right decision. If he's not properly conditioned he is just going to injure himself or look foolish out there.

  5. Thanks dude, you showed a lot of class here, don't be a stranger!

And I genuinely hope Dom won't do you over like he has everyone else in the past years, NOBODY deserves that treatment. Well... Maybe the 'Canes but, that's it! :D

I was angry after the first goal, but Miller definately made up for it.

  6. you're either very polite or flat out nuts... :P

Horrible hockey on the Sabres part.

Can anyone explain the Peters fight to me? Was there bad blood between the two?

It was a "We're down 2 goals and need someone to fire us up" fight.

Question # 1 : Yeah the Joe Louis Arena is widely known for having the most lively boards. There are also a alot of bumps in the ice that players sometimes take advantage of.

    # 2 : I wouldnt worry about the PP if I were you either. You're way too good of a team not to put some in the net. It just takes a bit for the team to get back to buisness and learn each other's tendancies. It took us a while as well. We sucked in the preaseaon.

    # 3 : If I know anything about your coach (little, if any :) ) then there will be loud noises coming from the locker room. Hopefully there will be an even closer 2nd. It will make both teams try harder, and have better hockey for us fans!

Thanks for the info. You Wings fans are alright.

Lindy Ruff is the Jack Adams winner, and knowing him your prediction is correct.

I am a little concerned that we seem to be coming out flat early in the games (with the exception of Ottawa). I will blame it on the week off for now.

  7. For all of Andrew Peters critics...if the team comes back in this one you can credit Peters. His fight fired the team up.

I don't know who that was at the beginning of the game, but that was not the Sabres!!

Just wondering if the boards at the Joe are a little different than everywhere else. Both of the Wings goals came off bounces off the boards.

To the Wings fan...our PP is statistically bad this year, but honestly they had been moving the puck well, the shots just hadn't found the net. I hadn't really been worried after watching the first three games.

  8. Ottawa fans have seen this before(Game 5 of last years playoffs). Tallinder scores in the first minute of the game and Pominville scores the game winner.

    Other thoughts...

-Great shot by Drury to make it 3-1

-Biron was excellent. One 3rd period save on a pass across the crease was his best save of the night.

-Much like last year, Roy, Max & Vanek as a line concern me in their own end. You have to play smarter with a 3-1 lead than that.

-Tallinder was very good again last night. Jumping in to the play early in the game to get the goal and being very solid in his own end. I thought Lydman struggled though with a couple of bad giveaways.

-Pominville looks like he is destined to be score 25-30 goals a year. His confidence is building.

-After getting spanked by Ottawa during the regular season last year, it is good to go into their arena and get a W.

    GO SABRES!!!

I didn't like the use of the Roy-Max-Vanek line. The line is great offensively, but should only be used when we need an offensive spark. Like when we're playing a defensive minded team and can't get anything going.

  9. Good to see another win, but I think Ryan and Marty have really had to earn their paychecks this week.

Been watching all the games but not posting or chatting during them. I don't pay as close of attention to the game if I am in the chatroom. Besides, there was a lot of stuff to flip to on CI tonight.

  10. I wouldn't say Ryan had a bad game, at least two of those Montreal goals came off some pretty sick Carolina-like bounces, not giving him much of a chance.

Yeah, I didn't like the rebound he gave up on the first one, but the rest weren't really his fault.

  11. With this group, I'd hate to make any predictions. The only catch may be it's the third game in four days.

Do you think it'd be a good idea for Biron to play? They have almost one week off after this game.

I'd go with Miller because of the time off after the game. It's early in the season, he can handle 3 games in 4 nights.

  12. Well, that didn't take very long. They've already gone back to giving me multiple heart attacks in the 3rd period. I'm still riding that emotional high right now, so I can't even think of what to say about that game. I guess it's time to go watch V for Vendetta in honor of Vanek's solid game.

Oh, and I don't think I've ever seen a team score 4 identical goals like Montreal did. Was there even one that didn't deflect of a Sabre directly to the open man?

Yeah, you know I would really like to be mad at Miller for giving up 4 goals, but there is not much he could have done on those. It definately could have been a lot worse.

Since no one else mentioned it, if Montreal makes the playoffs by a point, they can thank the officials for that quick whistle tonight!

  13. Kinda makes the Caniac-bashing a little ridiculous, doesn't it? :)

Seriously, I think the problem the Sabres will have to address is the perception that tickets are hard to come by.

Not really. I believe the Sabres sold out the preseason game. One of the main reasons tonight's game hasn't sold out yet is the Gold level pricing IMHO.

Besides, the Sabres haven't been advertising all summer that tickets for tonight are sold out, like the Canes were.

Sadly, I think this will happen. I think it sucks for Biron and the team.

Unfortunately, there's no way the Sabres can sit Ryan tonight for the home opener. He always gets the loudest cheers and the place will be bumpin' tonight. So Marty gets the road game against the Sens, which will be the 3rd game in 4 nights for the team. Toronto embarrassed the Sens at home last night, so they'll be out for blood. It just seems like Marty is getting hung out to dry (as much as one can be on this awesome team) in this scenario.

    Start Ryan in both games.

Normally I like starting a different goalie in back to back games, but since it's only the second and third game of the season, and there is a big break before game 4, I would say give Ryan both starts. Fatigue shouldn't be a factor this early.
