  1. Good game. Two major weak points being the soft goal on Johnson and Eichel's brain-farts during the second. Otherwise a relatively consistent game from start to finish.

Hopefully Girgenson's goal will get the monkey off his back and he can start playing his game - I think he's been snake-bit up until today's OT.

When there's real chemistry, you can see it developing. We're seeing real chemistry develop between Eichel and Reinhart. I'm not sure who should be the third-wheel on their line, but I suspect that Bylsma will throw Kane in with them (assuming he keeps that pair together) when Kane returns.

I don't know WTH the league is trying to do, letting a lot of calls go. I wonder if there's some sort of dictum where lower-ranked teams are allowed to play sloppy because that's what they do, but I didn't like the boarding I saw from the Flyers sometime in the third that was let go.

Glad to see Eichel caught the Flyer goon out of corner of his eye to avoid the hit. This was the kind of game I was waiting for where the opposition was clearly out to beat down Eichel. He seemed aware of that and pretty much avoided everything, but I'll be happy after this season when Eichel is a year older and wiser, and bigger and stronger and able to handle the riff-raff.

    hear hear

  2. :D  Somebody's getting added to next years "I don't want to name any names" list.

Happy B-day ATL.  It is cool that we have this internet forum that we all care about so much.  And we even have NS to wish us happy birthdays and make us feel loved.

thanks Immerman, I hope I don't make it on anyone's list for the wrong reasons ...))

  3. Happy birthday! As it happens today is my daughter's bday too -- it's been a great one so far and I'm pretty psyched for her cake after dinner.

    Have a great bday.

Thanks much NFreeman, and a very happy birthday to your daughter. Let's hope for the correct QB decision which is (apparently) happening today.

  4. Guys/gals:

off topic - today is my birthday and I would like to say how much I enjoy commiserating on all things Buffalo with you. I have met (virtually) some great people on this Board and you have enriched the quality of my life immensely around a team and a city we all love & our proud of.l

There are several of you who have really connected with me personally and for that I am grateful. There are a couple (unnamed) who have gotten very personally negative/confrontational with me, and for a day I am going to forget those (looking at you Pastajoe)..... :flirt:

May we all live to see a BB Super Bowl winner AND Stanley Cup winner in our lifetimes to result in the greatest party of all human history.

And - thank you Neo for being such an erudite poster and a true gentleman.

I have so much respect for the passion & love we all have for our teams & hometown. I have never, and will never,

forget where I have come from. Despite my career success I remain humble & true to my roots, eternally grateful for the way I was raised, the sacrifices my parents made for me & my 2 siblings, and the Buffalo ethos I maintain.

Have a wonderful (and blessed) day. With all the insanity around us seemingly on a daily basis, we should all be grateful for this forum and the fellowship it provides.

  5. Turns out one of his goalies had bad eyesight. He told the goalie to get it checked, that he might have a cataract. The goalie replied, "No, I drive a Rincoln Continental".

in today's uber-sensitive PC world, you'd normally be pilloried for your ethnically poor joke; but I'm totally cool with it, except it reminds me of my 82 y/o Dad asking me for the 150th time, "did I ever tell you the one about the goalie who thought he had a cataract?".

I have to indulge my Pops, of course, but it's still kind a weak joke. Thanks for adding some levity to the board, however.....!

  6. Murray trades 1st round draft picks like he is throwing out junk mail. He has now traded away 7 players/picks from the 1st round in addition to 3 second round picks from the top 5 of the second round.

Ten premium picks he has traded away. The short term should definitely improve, but he has unloaded some top prospects as a result. And still Cody Hodgson is a Sabre!

I loved the idea of Brendan Lemieux and JT Compher playing together for the Sabres, but now it's history.

you cannot get out of the basement by merely hanging on to high picks. They need to be used as smart poker chips to infuse proven talent where it can be acquired while identifying the core of your team long-term. Murray is checking all these boxes and doing everything he said he was going to do....very clearly defined. No subterfuge with GMTM.  Grigo was not a slam dunk by any means, losing Z hurts but he's young & dumb, and prospects are merely that; prospects.

  7. Hopefully the fire cools down a little bit.

Lehner was drafted in 2009 when GMTM was AGM in Ottawa and GM in Binghamton. It can't be known if GMTM was the reason he was drafted, but it's possible. Lehner was the 2nd goalie drafted in 2009 at #46 (6'6" Koskinen from Finland at #31 who fled from the Islanders back to Finland after his ELC).

Was IS known is that Lehner was brought to the AHL asap to play for Binghamton and became the starter almost immediately before gettin callups to Ottawa. That would likely be the result of GMTM as GM of Bingo.

Tim's been watching this kid since before the 2009 draft. If any GMs know him, it's him and Terry Murray.

We knew Tim was going to make a move on a goalie soon. I didn't think he would risk next season to the decisions of the free agents or the other GMs trying to sign goalies. I speculate that Tim was given first right of refusal on Lehner by Terry.

As Duffer says, almost apologetically, if Lehner is the player Tim thinks he can be, we just got a good deal. He's the right age too- he should develop on a similar timeline as the other kids.

any relation to that arrogant, A-hole IRS Director who would have already been fired three times over in the private sector ?...... :flirt:  :flirt:

  8. I just assume people know my infatuation with Eichel goes back to last September's prospect game in Buffalo and have read all my posts about him since so I take for granted that everyone would just get my sarcasm.

Can't wait to see how it all shakes out, too. I like everything about this kid.

    GO SABRES!!!

no worries K-9, I just didn't take the time to read your history on Jack; I really wonder if he has made up his mind yet about staying at BU....perhaps the assurance given to him by the Sabres will have already taken care of that decision.

Not that the comment section holds any weight, but boy is Eich getting lambasted by everyone. Apparently he's too brash and wants everything handed to him. We should also trade him already.

I personally think it's shows balls and self-confidence. I could see someone like Pat Kane saying the same thing in a similar situation. I want that type of attitude on this time, and I want him to demand the puck when the game's on the line to be won.

  9. The Boston Herald article linked above that cites the two Bruin scouts who said he could play "on an NHL 2nd line..." Sorry, but I thought Eichel was a 1st line center.

So, that article and my outgrown sense of sarcasm informs my opinion that he is a bust waiting to happen.

    GO SABRES!!!

ha, I thought I detected some sarcasm on your part. Very excited to see how this all shakes out.
