The shot he took off lateral side, likely broke his fibula. Hopefully not his heel bone (calcaneus), but puck looked higher up, lateral mallelous of fibula more likely. It is non weight bearing, and can be pinned easily enough. Means he is out for season but recovery usually goes well.
great call Icehouse, someone who actually knows anatomy with a good comment. A broken fibula/malleolus would be the best possible outcome, far easier to heal than the calcaneus. The critical factors are 1) the fracture pattern (i.e., oblique vs. comminuted) and 2) degree of soft tissue injury

I remember a fan got killed a while back by getting hit in the head with a puck. I think it's offensive for TSN and ESPN to show hockey highlights every night because somebody died attending a hockey game.

TMGM is exactly right. Unfortunately this was exactly the type of contract (back diving into retirement years) teams had to offer a decent UFA under the old CBA but with the rule change under the new CBA they're punished for those deals if they don't buy the player out now. Buffalo has no choice but to buy him out; otherwise, if they do hit several home runs with their many high draft picks they will be burning cap space with a retired player and may lose young talent they were developing when they pass their entry level deal

Of course we'd have a great time getting a beer. and we should! I don't think you're an evil guardian of the underworld at all. I think you are subconsciously (as I initially noted) affect by racial biases, as almost all American's are. I feel it is constructive to point out those instances.
Seriously, if I'm ever in ATL or you make it to the Finger Lakes, we should do beers.

The fact that you are way overly sensitive about my use of Obama's 3 initials just confirms to me that I hit an unintended nerve. Glass Case of Emotion - since when is stating a vast difference in my opinions of Obama & Carson is that akin to "I'm not racist, I have a black friend"??? I was making a very candid comparison between a President whom I don't respect and a potential candidate who I do. They both happen to be black. I could care less. I think Carson would make an excellent candidate.

My distaste and disapproval for and of Obama has nothing to do with race and everything to do with his judgment, leadership, competence, performance, and ideology, among others. I could care less what color he happens to be, but since I know you don't know me or what I stand for, I don't expect you to believe me. But I will tell you, unequivocally, that you have no right throwing the race card at me based on my prior use of his middle name or initial on this board. I, for one, would love to see Ben Carson as our next President, so may I ask what does that make me by your twisted logic?
I care deeply about this country and would be inspired by a strong leader with character and competence like Dr. Ben Carson.
