  1. Yes, his record of philanthropy puts other multi-billionaires to shame.

Does it?  Would be interesting to see that data, as a percent of assets.  I know in ROC he and Polisseni's have been pretty great, but it's hard to tell % wise who is awesome vs who isn't.  Also safe to assume a lot of stuff is private.  Either way, it's their money, they earned it.  Do what you will.

As for the Geese, they are just his way of pushing back against bad government.  Fighting the good fight in my opinion.  He'll pay that Naples School tax bill, but not before he has his say.  And if you source from somewhere other than the rag we know as the D&C you'll see he commented that the he tried the dog solution and others, didn't work, and pushes the geese to neighbors, which is not cool.  Instead, policy needs to change.  He's uniquely qualified to influence things more so than the average person.  Good job TG!

  2. I'm fine with it.  The lady he's suing also not struggling.  Her address is a giant house on Lake Rd in Webster anyways worth >1MM.  Not cool to steal / do business that way.  Good job TG standing up for yourself.

Pretty sure this is the boat btw:

Though, could be his attorney is on retainer and he's getting all sugar-packet-y with him.  Wtf am I paying you for?  Here, let's do this....

Oh, and this was announced the same week.  Dude is quirky no doubt, but he's doing a lot right:

  3. We probably scout plenty around here. But let's face the facts: There simply aren't as many kids here playing hockey at a high enough level as there are across large swaths of Canada and even the US. I know we love to call ourselves a hockey town, but we're not nearly as hockey crazy as most of Canada and a lot of the more northern and coastal US states. We're just not spitting out the highest quality talent at a high volume to expect a constant stream of WNY kids into the NHL. It's why the ones from here who are special tend to get noticed. They stick out like sore thumbs. You can't be NHL bound around here without everyone knowing about you by the time you're in high school.

We are 2nd behind MN from my homer view, or maybe 3rd behind Detroit.  Ok top 5 if you include Chicago.

This is for 15 years olds, 2 in top 10.

    1 - MN

    2 - Buf

    3 - Detroit

    4 - CT

    5 - St Louis

    6 - Chi

    7 - Detroit

8- Roc (pulling from SYR too)

    9 - Wisconsin

    10 - MN

These teams battle the top Ontario teams and win their fair share.  Ie the Jr Sabres beat #1 team in Canada 4-0 back in Sept http://myhockeyrankings.com/team_info.php?y=2017&t=4115

The current U18 USA team on the other hand, I don't think we have anyone from NY  Versus Olympics a few years ago where we had 5 or 6 from NY.

All said, I agree w/ the point that Ontario has more depth.

  4. Goalies Leggio and Knapp are two recent locals that got a look in ROC I assume in part because they were locals.  I love the idea and agree we should know our guys better. The 2002(U15) Buffalo Jr Sabres are currently 2nd in the country.  From 02 and younger that is the Org to play at now.  Pegula did good there w/ Harbor Center, etc.  So, hopefully better things to come.

  5. Neither, per Pawl Hamsammich he's been tabbed by Governor Cuomo to be NYS' s rep on the Great Lakes Intergovernmental Panel to look into the causes of Lake Ontario flooding this past summer. #HammyFacts.

Not a chance!  He's Canadian. Too many Canadians running that show already.  Now we got Pence on it. #hammyprayers

  6. Doesn't even an AHL contract block him from being able to go to the Olympics?  I still don't understand why team USA would even be interested in a player his age.

Yeah I was thinking the same re: AHL contract.  Unclear.  Amerks didn't carve out a hole in the schedule for it, games through Feb.

My best guess is coaching gig or consultant so he can skate w/ them and stay in shape.  Maybe Stephen Gionta though?  The homer in me likes a couple local boys on the team.

  7. Reading what Housley had to say on the subject today (no plans to permanently sew a letter onto anybody's sweater "in the immediate future") I wonder if he might not keep rotating the "A" into the season in order to see if anyone steps up and grabs the "C". If nobody does it, oh well. Three rotating "A's" wouldn't be any dumber than Lindy's Oprah Winfrey inspired passing the "C" around.

You get a C, and you get a C....!!!!! And so on.

Still cringe @  "..stronger handshake Thomas".

Agree w/ you pi2000.  Later this week get ready for "everyone in this room is a leader" blah blah blah.

  8. Since tonight's game was really boring I decided to try to improve my stream quality.

A little background. I'm streaming nhl.tv on my PC and I have my PC connected to my TV. I am using a VPN service to mask my location so that I can watch Sabres games locally.

What I have found is that the framerate of the video is not good. My internet speed is excellent, but for whatever reason the video was choppy. This is frustrating given that I pay good money for NHL.tv.

So I ended up downloading an app called Kodi and it made all the difference. I had to reduce the HD playback level for the Sabres game, but other games didn't require it. Either way it fixed the choppiness and the video looks great!

Interesting. I have Kodi on the firestick and haven't found it to be very useful. Primary objective is/was sports streams.  I will put some more effort into VPN service with NHL.tv, last year I tried and failed.

  9. I thought it was interesting how Housley matched lines as opposed to Bylsma. Eichel played against Crosby, I can't believe this will be Housley's thinking a month from now, as I expect them to be lit up. The second line was Larsson, Josefson, and Delo, as they played against Malkin. I don't think Delo can play against Malkin regularly, and this is why Nolan was brought in. This leaves both O'Reilly and Reinhart against bottom six competition.

I paid attention to this a few years back, maybe the short season, and I found Colorado and Toronto (when they were both bad, and funnily enough, it was O'Reilly who was given the better matchups then too.) were using this type of line-matching strategy. I'll be curious to see if it works or not, my current belief is that it just doesn't matter.

I liked it - here you go Jack, match-up with Crosby. I didn't like that Eichel was on losing end most shifts and 2 goals against.  He got that late assist which softened his stats, but on the whole I don't think he had a good game.

Not sure about O'Reilly's line. Three good possession guys, but who's the scorer there?  Okposo I guess?  We need a young Vanek in there.

Overall fun to watch and pumped for the season!

  10. No. More likely means Bailey/Baptiste/Griffith get sent down. Maybe one makes and Deslauriers is waived.

Ok.  Amerks get better either way.  Thanks.

I was going to mention yesterday that I'd totally waive Des for either of Nolan or Flynn. Happy with the move.

Wait Brian Flynn is available!?!  :P

  11. I heard it discussed on the Instigators as I was driving. And again, I noted it was speculation but it did seem like a reasonable guess as to where both parties started the negotiation. I mean if Eichel wanted only Drai money you think the deal would have been done a  long time ago.

Makes sense.  Don't like it.  What's another $8 million bucks when you have $80?  Seems like ego.  He can make up the money by negotiating good endorsements and such if he really is better than McDavid.
