  1. I find it interesting that 2 of the 3 Reinhart's washed out of the NHL

Yeah.  Another case of NHL nepotism creating opportunity from squirts to juniors to draft I think.  Good players, but so many open doors.  Thinking out loud, I wonder if the NCAA path is more merit based.

  2. Unsure if there's more to this or just incidental.  Really not sure why I care at this point.  Bogo has been huge disappointment. Aside from him losing his that one time, he's done nothing.  Oh wait "he's fun!" according to Jack/Sam.

Bogosian being helped off ice after he got tangled on the wall with Kane during a drill. Couldn’t put any pressure on left leg. #SabresNHL_2017_2018_Buff_Sabres.png

  3. I don't buy in to the idea that a coach needs to be a dramatic blowhard to get his players going. Find me NHL coaches who throw tantrums and berate their players?

Maybe that stuff works for guys like Patrick Roy coaching Juniors, but it isn't going to work on grown men.

It's been said repeatedly, going back to the first Eichel season, that this stuff needs to come from the players.

Now that we've had a coaching change and it's still the same, I believe it.

If Housley was shielding this team from losing, we'd be playing Dan Bylsma hockey. Housley is just letting them lose and unfortunately losing isn't moving the dial for some of these guys.

What else can you do after that?

You can Babcock.  He seems entirely in control of his players, their approach, game plan, psyche.  And he seems vocal and appropriately emotional.

I'm not a "because Buffalo" guy, but ffs between the lottery balls and this miss.  Just brutal.

  4. O'Reilly is a massive disappointment this season.   He looks completely out of shape, he's slow, lagging behind the play most nights.    His first couple seasons here he was a determined puck hound, creating chance after chance off the forecheck..    now he looks gassed after 15 seconds, shoulder slumped over, head down trying to catch up to the play from behind like he has sandbags strapped to his legs.

Don't forget about the crappy pass through the neutral zone that immediately comes back the other way.

  5. I'll connect some dots. Phil's wife is running for Al Franken's seat as a Republican. Birds of a feather flock together. There's a jib cut that Terry likes. Want a job on Terry's team? Wear your cross out, present a bottle of red wine and talk about how poor people should pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

This is the weakest of sauce. It's akin to telling someone to leave the country if they don't like it.

Wait what? That's crazy. I think it would be extremely difficult to have a US Senator and head coach of NHL team in the same household.  Way too much stress for one family.  Pick one please. At this point, I hope politics.

  6. Not when I can get everything for free it's not

I hear ya..  $30/m.  If it spares me the chase I'm in.  If not, cancel.  Compared to $75-$100 for Spectrum Cable that's a good deal.  Also family of 5 here, nice everyone gets locals + cable + dvr on their own device (phone/laptop/etc).

  7. This wasn't her first NFL game, but it sure seemed like it.  And a former kicker shouldn't be providing the color commentary, either.  They were horrible.  Worse than Wilcots and Eagle.  Horrible.

When he declared Hauschka had an interesting story but then weaves in his kid? Wth.  It was bad. So was the ref and production team.  Unsure how decisions are made, I bet the A-team / guys with seniority are avoiding Buffalo in Dec.  Nice win though!

  8.  LTS PM me stating, "I am now reading yet ANOTHER story, this one one ESPN, that says the regional sports networks ARE included but Fox Sports 1 and 2 are not. So they will be part of the ESPN network. I would post it in the thread but it's locked."

I have reopened the thread as a result, thinking it could use further clarification and discussion...  Thank you LTS for bringing this to my attention...

The Fox RSNs are reportedly valued at $20 billion – almost 40 percent of the total cost of the entire Disney-Fox transaction.

This would also put Disney back in the hockey business for the first time since 2004. Disney was also the original ownership group of the Anaheim Ducks – then the Anaheim Mighty Ducks – when they came into being 25 years ago.

Sadly, as a non-ESPN guy (sports preferences not this new political angle), they are getting F1 next year too.

  9. First period wasn't bad, but after the 2nd philly goal in the second they locked it down.  Sabres had a few close calls later on that could easily have gone including Scandella point blank, but puck luck was not with the Sabres and Philly played solid lock down D.  2nd Philly goal had EROD and Sam not covering the open guy... How do you brain fart like that, lift the guys stick at least... hit him... something... Sam too often doesn't finish his checks.  It is not a game of Shinny... Sam needs to learn to play nasty... way too affable.

Biron & Duff blamed Kane for 2nd goal, said Erod and Sam were on way out of zone anticipating Kane clearing it.  They couldn't recover quick enough to get back and pick-up shooter.  I haven't seen a good replay.  Not to stick up for Reinhart, he has been very disappointing.  Remember when the debate was "Which Sam?"  The other one the same, struggling.  Looking at that draft, Syracuse's Alex Tuch is showing well.

  10. Eichel will be a bust if he doesn't develop the ability to sense when the moments are to make a move and cut to the net/dangle/etc. His first 2 years, people seemed to not fully realize what he had. Now they do, so he has to be able to sense when he has a step.

This season, he's always tried to make moves when he really didn't have an angle/opening, and has been stuffed by d-men. I hope he figures it out soon.

I may be over-analyzing but that Kane NHL Network interview from earlier today I think he sorta said the same.  Paraphrased-ish "Jack tries to make the little moves that are difficult to make in this league, when it works it creates chances, I like playing with him".

  11. First game of year for me tonight.  They looked good.  Ulmark gave up an ugly Lehner special (behind net wrap to post) in 1st but after that Amerks had better of play and just look solid.  Guhle looks solid, nothing popped though.  Nylander didn't look bad, but same, nothing popped out.  Grigerenko used to pop some "wows" at times, fwiw.  Botteril was at the game and on his phone.  Maybe checking in with wife, maybe talking trade, didn't ask.

  12. Sabres have 5 OT losses this season

    10/17 - Vegas - 55, 90, 15 (15 loses stick, goes to retrieve, too slow)

11/11 - Montreal - 67,82,90 (oreilly poulliet mess, pacioretty scores)

11/14 - Pens - 15 watches 87 beat 9 and come to front of net to score (also 82 out)

    12/8 - Chi - 21,55,15

    12/9 - As discussed above

Of course we want him out there as much as possible in 3v3 as the most talented guy so there's bias but...

Our only OT win is vs Boston, 90 scored unassisted (90 at his best, not seen enough this year) but 55 did a bunch of work and 9 was on ice too.

Also a shoot out loss in opener vs Montreal 10/5.

So that's 7 OT games this year.  1-5-1, Eichel -4.
