This Day in Sabres History

Recommended Posts

January 6, 1988

Dave Andreychuk's hat trick leads the Sabres to a 6-5 win in the Montreal Forum. It was the third of six wins in a row to start the New Year in a season that eventually saw the Sabres return to the playoffs after a two-season absence.

January 6, 1996

Former Sabre Pierre Turgeon scores twice on John Blue and once on Martin Biron, but Jason Dawe's own hat trick against Jocelyn Thibault ends up being the difference in a wild 7-6 victory by the Sabres in Montreal. Dawesome scored 25 goals in the team's last season in the Aud, tied with Randy Burridge for the team lead well behind Pat LaFontaine's 40.

January 6, 1999

Starting a road trip out West at the Duck Pond in Anaheim, Michael Peca scores at 29 seconds of overtime on a pass from Dixon Ward behind the net to give the Sabres a 3-2 win over the Mighty Ducks Of. The win would be the only one on a four-game jaunt. To this date in their Stanley Cup finals season, the Sabres had lost just nine games, but after beating Anaheim, they would win just three of their next sixteen games.
