October 10, 1970

The Sabres beat the Penguins 2-1 at the Igloo in Pittsburgh in their very first game in the National Hockey League. Gilbert Perreault is not on the ice for the opening faceoff, but he does score the first power-play goal and the first game-winning goal in franchise history midway through the third period. Future captain and general manager Gerry Meehan has a goal and an assist, defenseman Jim Watson tallies the first goal in Sabres history and Roger Crozier makes 35 saves.

 

October 10, 1971

Rick Jeanneret broadcasts his first regular-season Sabres game, another 2-1 win over the Pens, this time at the Aud.

 

October 10, 1974

Danny Gare scores 18 seconds into his NHL career and Gilbert Perreault has a hat trick as the Sabres beat the Bruins, 9-5, in the season-opener at the Aud.
