Jerry Korab ties Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals at 1 early in the third period, but it ends up being the Sabres' last shot on goal. Bobby Clarke then delights the Spectrum faithful with the winner with 13 minutes left. The Flyers win 2-1 and take a two games to nothing lead in the series heading to the Aud for Games 3 and 4.

After a spectacular rush by Geoff Sanderson, Wayne Primeau fires a bad angle shot over Byron Dafoe late in the first period to give the Sabres a 2-1 lead. It's a lead they will never relinquish as they go on to defeat the Bruins 3-2 at HSBC Arena and take the Eastern Conference semifinals four games to two. Joe Thornton scores a late goal to make things interesting, but the Sabres hold on. Dominik Hasek returns from a tweaked groin. "We want the Leafs! We want the Leafs!" the crowd chants in the late going. And get them they will, with a berth in the finals on the line. The win marks a number of significant playoff firsts for the Sabres franchise:

? The first time the Sabres have ever won a Game 6 at home to clinch a series.

? The first time the Sabres have ever won a best-of-seven playoff series after losing the first game.

? The first time the Sabres have ever advanced to the conference finals two years in a row.

Jerry Korab was a big, hairy, bear of a man, and after he scored that goal, I would have climbed into bed with him, cuddled up next to him and run my fingers through his bushy chest chair.

Good Lord, we need a hockey game!

That Primeau goal was practically fired from the goalline. I went apeshit after that one...
