This Day in Sabres History :: April 5

Recommended Posts

April 5, 1973

At the Montreal Forum, the Sabres take a 2-0 lead in the first period of Game 2, but the Habs go on to score the next seven goals and win going away, 7-3. "When they start coming," said Sabres' defenseman Tracy Pratt about the Canadiens, who lost only 10 games all season, "it's like a tidal wave." With a 2-0 lead in the series, Montreal is thinking sweep as the series heads to Buffalo's Memorial Auditorium for Games 3 and 4.

I don't care if the Habs go up 3-0, I'll bet the Swordsmen don't get swept!

I remember an entire city looking forward to the first NHL playoff game in Buffalo.

Not just the city. My mother worked for the Sabs, and a top team scout lived on our street on the Island. We did up the all the street lamps and a few houses in blue and gold. Wish I still had pictures cause it looked VERY cool.....
