He is, without question, my favourite Sabres prospect.  Mainly because so many collective heads exploded when he was made the Sabres third round selection.

He's basically been my favorite too since we picked him and for the same reason.  The collective meltdown here when we went off the board and picked a guy that Google was telling us was like 5'9" and 140 pounds instantly had me rooting for him.  I want him to succeed for the same reason I want Josh Allen to - not just for Buffalo but to prove people wrong.

    Does anyone know:

    - how Samuelsson has been playing for the US?

    - where to find box scores for these games?  I'm curious as to how much ice time Sammy and Laaksi have been getting and haven't been able to find them anywhere.

Check out TSN.ca.  Under World Juniors, go to Schedule and then click the "Game Page" for each game.  They basically have the box score for each game, although TOI is only there for the goalies.

    SO win!!

Huge goal from Asplund to tie it up with 11 sec left.

The goal to tie it late was a thing of beauty.  Asplund was perched just to the side of the net and received a perfect pass from Nylander at the point to put it home.  Outstanding play by our AHL Swedes. :)

I don't know why but I'm thinking he tweaked his back or something in the previous game. He probably rested and thought he could go but wore out as the game went on, ultimately pulling himself out. Something that the training staff could work on and he could recover enough in a few days to get back in the game, but the only prescription in the meantime is rest.

I think he crashed into the net pretty hard in the Boston game so that’d make sense with back or ribs.

Do they have much of a winter in Dallas?

No, really.  I don't think this is a good idea.  What's next?  Miami?

Winters are mild. High is 60 today but it’ll be in the 30s on Wednesday. Actually good outdoor game weather.

Still nothing being done to address the fact that our middle two centres create nothing.

It’s not a long-term solution, but why not see what Larsson or Rodrigues can do with our “better wingers?

I’ve completely come around on the idea of putting Reinhart back at center. (Kudos to Eleven and a few others for that.) He’ll never be a great center in the NHL but he might be enough to give us what we need for the next 40+ games. You could put Pominville or any of a handful of other guys with Skinner and Eichel and we’d probably be fine there.

He has them playing tight. All he's wanted to talk about of late is how tight the games are going to be, how hard it's going to be to score, dirty areas, grind it out, they're coming for us, they'll be ready for us.

It's pretty reminiscent of so many Darcy seasons. "We like our team."

Darcy also pulled off some amazing robberies at the deadline. GMTM was a complete disaster and I think we’re still waiting to see what Botterill can do.

That was supposed to be Nylander. Y'know the top 10 sniper that we drafted and had done squat so far

You’re kinda late to the “Tim Murray was a terrible GM” squad but welcome aboard. ?

Skinner is just a born-goal scorer.  The Sabres either need a legit 2nd line center, or they need another Skinner to team with Casey.

Agree we should split up Eichel and Skinner and see if we can get 2 lines going. It’s worth a shot. We’ve lost 10 of our last 14.

So he's not going to be able to produce without a good centre, and he's also more likely than not a JAG long term. I'm making both points.

Don't see the rush to call him up to be another Remi Elie.

Remi Elie’s shot on that 2 on 1 is exactly why you’d want to bring him up.

And you’re just making unrelated points that have nothing to do with each other.

    “He might be a JAG.”

    ”Or he might be good.”

    ”But he’s not a center.”

”Yeah, obviously we could use a center too.”

    ”So I’m right!!!”

And as we can see, Sheary is nothing without that centre. No AHL wing call up is doing anything at all in our middle 6.

    Oh Thompson.

That’s a separate point from him being a JAG. And something you could say about basically every winger we have, including 53 and 23

It’s not like anyone will disagree with you about the Sabres needing another center. But the Sabres also need more guys that can shoot the puck.

    Can they play centre?

Also this isn't meant to be snarky, but I'm not sure enough people realize that it's more likely than not that CJ Smith, a 24 year old undrafted FA well under a point per game in the AHL never carves out a meaningful NHL role.

    He's likely JAG.

Or he’s another Sheary. I’d love to find out. Right now it sounds like he has everything we’d normally get excited about adding to the team: speed, shooting, and smarts.

Time to take him for a test drive.
