I believe the 'garbage time' here refers to the 'garbage time' of this season.
Am I right?
That is true but I just look at the totality of an 82 game season. if a team is 9 points out and playing bad with 20 games to go and wins 18 of 20 to close the season and miraculously make the playoffs, and face some backup goalies, noone would call that garbage time
-
I dont like calling these wins 'Garbage Time' 60 minute efforts are not garbage time. Garbage time is when the team is down 6-0 and score 3 goals to make the score closer.
The team is showing signs of improvement and that is what we have to build on. 18 games to go. Say the Sabres finish 9-9, that would be 18-16-2, including that 9-7-2 run since the "Dallas Afternoon Massacre" which covers almost half the season. I think we would all sign up for that now. Would clearly show us that the franchise is truly taking the turn for the better.

Looking like Teddy Bridgewater isn't going back to Minnesota. Please bring me him and draft a guy at 21/22 (preferably Jackson) and actually use the rest of the draft picks.
I would sign up for that and address DT DE and LB in the draft and FA.

I really like some of these ideas but I do agree some of these deals are going to be tough to pull off.

Incomplete grade, but based on what his vision is, I still approve of JBot.
I really think we have a great GM in the making here, patience is going to be key for us fans and the Pegulas.
Of course. One of the other things is that Murray was technically hired by LaFontaine and that entire situation went stupid fast. It might have been that Murray was tasked by his owner to try and win NOW and in which case he made the moves to try and make that happen. It's really hard to say how much he enjoyed the entire ownership situation with the Sabres as the whole environment changed around him as soon as he was hired. That said, he had a GM job so it's not like he wanted to just up and walk away from that either right?
In some way I think we can pin two years of crap on the entire mishandling of the LaFontaine situation. It was clear Pegula was (and still is) learning how to operate a professional franchise (in multiple sports). It does appear that he might be starting to get it with both organizations but one year with each is hardly enough to say for certain.
I do agree, the last two hires by the Pegulas do suggest that maybe they are starting to get it, and maybe keep weasels like Russ Brandon out of these decisions and have him stick with financials.
Biggest mistake that was made: When we drafted Eichel, we needed to tank AGAIN. Sadly. Imagine if this team would have landed Laine or Matthews.

Through 41 games, the team was 30th in the league in points. They had 6 more than Phoenix, and 8 fewer than the next worst team (Ottawa).
From the 42nd game onward, they are 21st in points. And they're bunched up with several teams that have anywhere from 20-24 points during that span -- that'd be the Blues, Panthers, Coyotes (!), Devils, Kings, Islanders, Red Wings, and Blue Jackets.
I know they got the Lightning's backup goalie (?) twice and probably Boston's too -- but they've repeatedly beat the best teams in the East. I was at that Lightning game at home, and they looked very good. Consistency is the thing.
They are getting better (?).
Good post and I completely agree. I think we are seeing what the team could have been if not for the dreadful start.

Nice win for the Sabres last night, even without Kuch and Palat that is still a heck of a Tampa squad.
Would be nice to see the Sabres finish well: Good to see the effort being put forth. May not seem like of much importance now but finishing well can carry over into next season.

Tampa Bay vs Nashville and Tampa Bay wins the Stanley Cup in 6 games

Buffalo does not win the lottery.
This is as given as death and taxes :o
-
IMO, the New York Rangers won the deadline week. What say you?
-
JBots said SJ had the only legitimate offer.
Well if that is the case I understand the deal a little better now
-
Can't you just let people be irrationally mad at Botterill in peace?
I can't I just cant! :P
-
This is all you need to know about this Evander Kane trade.
Tomas Tatar got Detroit a 1st 2nd and 3rd. NO conditions.
I'm done with Botterill.
-
If Buffalo loses the lottery it's because they had a 12% chance at winnning, not because the league rigs a lottery run by an independent firm for scenarios that don't benefit them at all, like McD to Edmonton or Matthews to a market that doesn't need him over his hometown that is a dying organization propped up by the league.
Toronto needed help. Bettman ensured that pick wasn't going anywhere.
-
We beat a cup contender yesterday and Zona is baaaaaaaaaaad too.
the 6% won't matter though.
The #1 overall pick is earmarked for the Rangers. Don't even entertain the thought for Buffalo.
-
Is there any doubt we come in last place now?
The Sabres will play better that's how we do things.
-
Also we have to consider that it was announced this is a rental. You don't see that very often.
Perhaps Evander Kane has made it absolutely clear where he wants to play in 2018-2019 and beyond. Perhaps its a done deal (say Vegas as an example)
If teams know this and Evander and his agent know this, why would they pay premium?
And why would the team that will sign him pay now when they can wait 5 months and sign Evander?
I bet the 2019 2nd round pick was the agreement. Botterill then negotiated this to be a conditional 1st to save a little face with ownership and the franchise.
Terry: Jason, why no 1st round pick For Evander?
Jason: Here Terry, I gave us a chance to get a 1st round pick.
Terry: OK Jason, thanks, at least we have some hope for a 1st.
Jason: Do you want some Mighty Taco I'm on my way now

I suspect that any mistake that was made happened in November/December/January, when Kane usage changed. In trying to fix the team, he was no longer put in the best possible position and his individual stats dropped way off. I'm sure GMs took that as a sign of a bad attitude, which would fit with his off ice reputation. Also, who wants to pay a lot for a "scorer" who has scored in months. Apparently, 4 goals in 7 games recently wasn't enough to convince him that the real Kane is a true goal scorer.

Like we knew all along, it all comes down to who that prospect is
Agreed
-
Waiting for the return is painful....
-
I speculate that Kane will be traded for some combination of picks and prospects, as long as both GM's are satisfied with the asking price.
...am I doing this right?
That's good, just use the 'sources' word to give it that little something extra

This is trade deadline day... all the news that's fit to print... even if it's not news.. or fit to print. :) Don't hold SabreSpacers to a higher standard than the sports media! :)
Hold on I am just creating my fake Bob McKenzie twitter account... :w00t: :w00t:

If Kane isn't traded and the result is the Sabres sign him at a decent but not crazy salary, I'd be okay with that.
To your points:
. He does give that impression, and after some early missteps with the Sabres, he's really cleaned up his act. He's also done a lot of charitable work in the Buffalo area. He may be a better fit in Buffalo than most other cities, where even his swagger can appeal to a city that hasn't had much to brag about in sports for years.
. Not standard issue hockey material, but used correctly that can be an advantage. He's consistently put forth a top effort even when the rest of the team is having a meh night.
. Avery seemed to intentionally seek out controversy and didn't know how and when to keep his yap shut, and it seemed to get worse with time. With Kane it seems more like a maturity issue and his behavior is improving (this is my perception but I don't see Buffalo media regularly, so maybe that's not a valid one).
EK was more immature years ago, not dismissing his actions completely, but he has appeared to mature at least to the level to stay out of trouble.
EK will be the posterboy for what went wrong here, but in most part, unfairly: EK didn't give up a Moulson contract. He didn't agree to take Bogo and his terrible contract for someone who can't stay healthy. EK didn't pass on Sergachev.
Many other factors out of EK's control led to this mess.

Put it on a saturday.I hate working when this shite is on.
I agree, or even a Sunday Night would suffice.
