1. Ask Spurs fans if they are still suffering after the 1996 Spurs went 20-62 and landed Tim Duncan #1 overall.
2. Ask Colts fans if the 1997 season stings after going 3-13 and then they drafted Peyton Manning in 1998.
There are examples of this at a lot of levels. I love this stripdown to the core. It was SOLELY needed. The time will come this summer when it will be obvious this team will be about winning again.
Fellow Sabres fans we have come this far only a few weeks left of this madness: Let's go 2-17 over the last 19, guarantee Eichel, and enjoy the progression upward.

Where we're you yesterday, it's your wheelhouse!!
I was busy posting false rumors on my terrible website LOL!

Game day threads used to be about the game. Remember those days?
;)
Sad but true haha

How much easier will the recruiting be if the Sabres have McDavid? Eichel? Will guys want to get in on the ground floor?
As long as Pegula gives out the green, oh yeah.
-
I really think the Sabres can compete in 2016-2017: We are in a salary capped NHL, the other unknown of this Sabres roster is: What if the Sabres are lucky enough to land a Connor McDavid...players will notice this and possibly want to play for Buffalo...and with an owner like Pegula, perhaps the time will be right in the 2016 offseason to strike on some UFA's and buy some talent as well.
Calgary and Montreal recently had high picks and turned things around quick: Colorado turned it around quick last season. I believe it can happen sooner then most think.

The team desperately needs a PP QB. Risto has some value there but he shouldn't be your top guy. Mike green or someone of that ilk is required.
We have enough bangers with Zadarov, Risto, Weber, and Bogo. Time for some high end puck movers.
+100000!

Is Mike Richter going to come out of retirement tonight? The end of the tank is in sight, let's painfully get this over with and complete the mission

If Sabres end up in 2nd last I know I won't sleep for the entire two days.
Sabres clinch last place - What is it comparable in sports terms? As happy as making the cup finals? winning the cup? Do you run out onto the street buck naked in joy?
How about they win the lottery?
For me just clinching that last overall record seals that we are probably getting Jack Eichel, which will make me ecstatic.
I don't even think about Connor McDavid, I truly believe Bettman will place him wherever he sees fit.

67 here in Southern California :bag: , hoping to send you all on the East Coast the dry warmer weather, send the wet and cold stuff here because we desperately need it!

I'm pretty tired of arguing about the viability of these things, and I'm certainly not going to put much of any effort into arguing with somebody who has summarily dismissed them in advance. The war is over, the nerds won. Neither you nor anybody else has to be happy about it, but it doesn't change reality. Some of the most successful NHL teams are using statistics to elevate their franchises (Chicago and LA being the two most successful with it) and they have access to proprietary stats that we don't...but that doesn't change that what we do have available has enhanced our understanding of the game and ability to evaluate players for those who care how to use the stuff properly. And that's really the key, is using it properly--knowing what the stats are really saying, knowing their limitation, and thinking about the implications the right way.
Use it, don't use it, like it, don't like it...whatever. But the nerds did win, and at some point people will start accepting it.
I do agree for the most part. It just illustrates nothing is full proof...scouts that watch players in person and get a feel for how the player is can sometimes be right, and sometimes be wrong....similar to that of analytics. In both cases, the teams that are right more then not are most successful.

I see everyone saying Eichel.. when making up future linemates
Is this because everyone expects us to lose the lottery ? or is it because we prefer him over McDavid
We won't win the 1st pick. Like the Crosby lottery, the fact that Uncle Gary 'suddendly' had to change the odds for THIS season, that tells me all I need to know
Bettman will hand pick his choice for McDavid.
I think he plays in the show.
Agreed. The time will be right for Reinhart in 2015-2016. And they must play him on the 2nd line, not the 3rd line, he needs real skill around him.

Classic post!!!

Not huge on giving up all these young pieces but Tim Murray must be really high on Evander Kane..let's hope he is right
-
Considering that the Ducks have a good system and some really good young players, I'm excited to see what Tyler Myers could bring us back from Anaheim.
-
I got it up to 30,000, and we still never hit 20% victories. Topped out at 19.8%. Edmonton was always at least a half percentage higher than their standing position indicates. Rigged.
That 0.2% is the Bettman vig...saved for one of 'his teams'.
-
Attitude issues in the locker room for Kane? I'd pass.
-
First click: Sabres win.
I'm not clicking any more times. This is my reality now.
In truth I feel 99.9% sure Bettman will rig this draft to suit the needs of the teams like Toronto, Philadelphia or some other bigger market. Just finish last and we get Jack Eichel and he will be a franchise player too.

Jul 3, 2014 - Coyotes name Darcy Regier Senior VP, Assistant GM.
Now, Don Maloney announces the team will be selling.
Looks like Regier is making his impact felt in Arizona.
I hope Darcy does not come back to bite the Sabres in the lottery
-
I rally like Darrell Bevell...he was the reason the Seahawks took a guy like Russell Wilson..and he is an innovate offensive mind and he could bring over some Seahawk flavor to the defense and if we can just keep Schwartz that would be amazing
-
So nice to see a game day thread again. Prediction: Sabres gain 25 points from last year, we see real progress from some of the kids, and we will still be in prime position to land Eichel or McDavid in the 2015 NHL Draft. GO SABRES!!!!

Two off the grid nominees:
G Mika Noronen: Remember he was going to be the next great goalie? Then he was traded for a 2nd rounder I believe
F Erik Rasmussen: 8th overall pick perhaps, I considered him a big disappointment in terms if production
