  1. I won't say I wanted it, mostly because I never seriously considered it as an option.  That said, I have no problem with the decision.  These times where you are completely restarting things, to me, are some of the most exciting times for a team.  Whoever steps in and takes over is definitely starting from a much better point than Murray did.

The other angle is Pegula probably knows this job is a lot more attractive now then a few years ago. Possible top 5 pick in 2017, Eichel, OReilly, and an owner that will spend. GM and coaching candidates will come to the Sabres versus the other way around.

  2. Eh, I'm an evangelical Christian and I compliment/ describe my friends who fit that description the same way. It doesn't mean I exclude or think less of my non believing friends. Problem is though he is an employer, he needs to be conciencous of how it can be interpreted.

Agreed I am the same and have friends that are all kinds of non religious and religious and I don't base faith on choosing great people to surround myself with

  3. I agree, but I think many are on a "Pegula sucks at everything in the known universe" kick at the moment.

There are still good qualities to Terry. I truly believe he is a good man and his heart is in the right place. He wants to win, he cares and that is appreciated as a fan of the Bills and Sabres like most of us are.

Pegula just has no flippin idea how to run sports teams in terms in regards to personnel and why should he, what qualifications does he have?

And when you trust a marketing major like Russ Brandon too much, that in itself is a major issue. Name me another city where someone like Brandon has all this power. It is borderline insanity.

  4. #1 thing I want from the new GM: Do they have a good track record in the NHL Draft. The NHL Draft and development of young players is everything in today's NHL: rarely will you strike gold in FA and it cannot be relied upon.

As far as the coach: Someone who has a track record of success at every stop and can tailor a system to best fit the players in place versus force feeding their style to players that may not fit.

And yeah the other thing: Keep Brandon away from any decision making and let Pegula spend his $ and have awkward pressers otherwise stay out of the way and be a fan.

  5. He makes money marketing 2 of the worst franchises in sports. He's better at his job than any coach or gm either team has ever had.

He still has a voice, and if you can't make money running an NFL team, you are a complete moron.

Fire Brandon and let's get someone in here with a winning and hockey and football pedigree for both franchises.

  6. If Hamilton's inside sources are correct DB is as good as fired. Wonder if the pro DB crowd would be willing to lose Jack eventually over this. Bye bye dan.

Agreed but we are already seeing the power Eichel has in this organization. Remains to be seen if that is a good or bad thing.

  7. On sport talk radio 1040 out of Vancouver this a.m. they were lamenting how they would have to put up with Edmonton/Toronto duking it out for the cup for the next 10 years.

    Cue the sound of crickets...

Not a word of Buffalo crossed their lips.

Thats the perception pretty much this side of the border. Not much talk of Eichel when discussing the other top picks of the last couple years. Not much talk of the sabres at all actually. Until this franchise gets serious about winning we're not even in the conversation.

This is EXACTLY the narrative Bettman and Canada wants and craves. And make no mistake fellow Sabres fans if you are yearning for approval from the hockey media, find it elsewhere it isn't gonna happen. The second Matthews scored 4 goals opening night the guys on TSN probably said 'Yes, we don't have to compare Jack and McDavid anymore, bring in Toronto!"

The Brandon comment I made may seem odd but think about all this culture we talk about changing: Brandon has a LOT of power in the Buffalo sports scene and his mug shows up more then it should for my taste, and yet despite the terrible track record on the field and ice since he has been around, Brandon is retained and even gets promoted. For what? Flush this guy out!

Think about the fact that Wayne Gretzky is back with Edmonton and we are stuck with the likes of Russ Brandon. What a difference.

I do agree with the coaching comments in this thread, I will grant you Bylsma has not helped matters.

From my understanding (and I always stand to be corrected I know that for sure haha) the Sabres have never once, ever, gone UP in a lottery, always down. Toronto won't have such 'issues'.

  8. Two years before Connor McDavid was slated to be the Next One and the next great player in NHL history, the Buffalo Sabres set sight on providing us the best chance to land McDavid. And of course, it didn't happen (not that Bettman would allow it anyhow, Toronto almost won that lottery and had the better chance at the end then Buffalo, what a 'shock' that was)

Now the Sabres get Jack Eichel, as the next 'Big 4' come into the NHL. And what do you know, it appears that of those 4 (McDavid Matthews, Laine and Eichel), Jack will end up being #4. And it figures this would happen.

There is just something about Jack to me that is missing. He will put up a lot of points no doubt, but I just wonder if he will be a more 'talk and less action' type of guy and will leave when he can.

Here are the issues I see or foresee for the Sabres:

    1. Buffalo will bend over backwards to keep Eichel and make him happy at all costs: The fear of losing Eichel will give him too much power and say. Not a recipe for success if you ask me. (Lebron's first tenure in Cleveland as a reference point)

    2. Russ Brandon: I don't care what the talk is or the spin is: As long as this snake has a way in this or the Buffalo Bills organization: NOTHING will change. Tell me he is just in marketing: Ill tell you that I have ocean properties in South Dakota. His paws are in this organization. Look at the team's track record with this clown heavily involved: Why in the WORLD is he still around?

    3. Babcock and the Leafs: Sorry fellas and ladies, the Leafs won the tank wars. Aided some by the league to make sure they got that top pick and landing the coach that we didn't has cemented this. Toronto will be a top destination again. The Sabres will need to be virtually flawless in the off-seasons to keep up.

    Have at it.

  9. Because he was late to one meeting? All of have heard is that he works his tail off, puts in extra time and has a professional attitude.

I agree, who knows what really happened here, as there could be things behind the scenes that were building up and led to this because he was late to a meeting. And how late was he? Details are needed to give this proper perspective
