Hell, get on the horn to Arizona and see what they'd want for Chychrun. I don't think his no-trade clause kicks in til next year. If not him, maybe Gostisbehere. Gost is a UFA after the season, so he might only be a rental; but might be had for a bargain. Not sure Gost would help us a ton defensively, but at least he can move the puck and is great on the PP.

With all of the capital we have, there's no excuse for not offering some up to bring in another top-4 defensemen. I didn't bellyache standing relatively pat in the offseason because of the momentum built in March/April & because he probably wanted to see what some of these guys can do. But, once the breakdowns occur like this, you have to address them...especially when you have the assets to do so. 'Muel being out hurts because I think he's probably our best straight-up defender, but even when he comes back, you're still icing Bryson who is just not a guy who should be seeing regular NHL minutes. Go get a good veteran to play 19-22 minutes a night.

Bottom line, we're icing 2-3 defensemen (Bryson/Pilut/Clague) who have no business being on an NHL roster. They're traffic cones and don't move the needle offensively to offset it. Joker looked bad tonight, but he's been at least serviceable in the past. Hopefully he just needs to shake off some rust after missing a few weeks.

They aren't that bad. Columbus is awful and have been wrecked by long term injuries. Anaheim is awful. The Sabres aren't good, but even after losing to VAN tonight, they still have the pieces to sputter their way to 75 points. The last 6 weeks of last season & first 10 games of this were a big enough sample size to show they aren't as bad as they've played the last 2 weeks. There's talent, seems to be mental right now. Of course, you're always an injury or 2 to the wrong guys to fall into a death spiral. We're seeing that on a macro-level right now with 'Muel out.

What is this team is missing to compete consistently?
HumanSlinky39 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
This team isn't going to win consistently until they add the physical element to their game. Five hits tonight. FIVE. Nobody is afraid to play the Sabres because it's a cakewalk. Teams glide into our zone because they know there will be very little-to-no punishment for it. I don't know if they're being coached to not hit or if that's just the kind of players they are...either way will not work long term.
