Why are you skeptical about his ability to rebound?

His track record has been impeccable prior to now, his slump is 15 games.

His slump is season long - the Canucks clearly have not been in a rush to put him back in the net because he's been outplayed by the "backups".

This years stats (not last years or any previous year):

    GP 15 Ā  W3 Ā  L10 Ā  GAA 3.93 Ā  Ā SV% .883

And we're considering trading our up and coming goaltender for this hot mess? I'll also mention the losses have predominantly been on him, not as much the team around him. He's really let the Canucks down this season, which is why they want him moved.

This is fair, but Iā€™m going to put a lot more emphasis on his body of work than a 15-game stretch on this yearā€™s most dysfunctional team.

His resume and his numbers up to this season are textbook goalie development. Last year he was definitely among the leagueā€™s best goalies. Heā€™s a high pick who has excelled at every level. To me this screams buy low and profit.

He's been contributing to the disfunction, not a victim of it. Living in Van we see all their games. He's completely lost it. Ā And he's been injured a lot. Buyer beware.Ā

  3. Is there a way to get Meier that makes sense for the Sabres? He's a pending RFA that seems pretty pricey, despite our current manageable cap situation.

"The 26-year-old has a cap hit of $6 million this season, but due to receiving $9 million in salary, his qualifying offer is set at double digits this summer."

It seems to be antithetical to GMKA's philosophy up to this point. What would it take, and would it be worth it?

  4. I was 9 years old in 1973, growing up in small town Saskatchewan. I was already a dedicated Hab-hater, so when the Sabres made the playoffs for the first time I was cheering for them to knock of the favoured Canadiens. They didn't, but it was an exciting series, very impressionable on my young self. So they became my team, and I haven't wavered since. It was very common for Sask folks to cheer for a variety of team as we didn't have our own team, we were where NHL players came from šŸ˜‰

The Sabres of course had exciting and successful teams in those early 70's years, and there were many dedicated Sabres and Flyers fans that came about from both teams mid-70's successes.

My only Sabre jersey is my beloved #7 Martin.

edit - I just realized this will be my 50th year cheering for the boys in blue and gold. Jeezus I'm getting up there

Yep, goals against has definitely been a bright spot. Ā When they actually do something and finally make the playoffs, then you can bark all you want. Ā The offensive production wonā€™t always be there. Ā Need to shore up the blue line

I'll take what our GM has done with the team since he's had the job and sticking to the long term plan over random internet expert's opinion, but thanks for playing.

When they play as awful in their own end, and everybody in this forum agreesā€¦then I donā€™t know how to explain it to you

"hockey is more than a one man team"

Which is why the brilliant signing of TT to a great contract benefits the team by freeing up money. Duh.

A lot of use of the word "idiot" in this thread. Look in the mirror.
