If we deal Eichel, Cozens is the face of our “centre” spine and future scoring unit, though. Pressure, and by necessity expectation goes way up once in that role, and teams now have Big D as their prime focus

    Krueger is very worrying agree

Well there’s also a very good chance that we’ll be drafting top 5 in the next draft, so he won’t have to carry the burden alone...

Best way to build around Cozens is to give him what Eichel lacked - proper insulation. Proper expectation - Cozens might have what it takes to be an NHL centre some day, to my knowledge he hasn’t played a game there yet, and may even be a 1C down the line, he may even excel.

But if he’s our 2C cause Jack’s in the 1C spot, the *team* will assuredly excel. Tampa kept Stamkos when they got Point, etc

Eichel was literally brought in to be the savior of the franchise. Hasn’t worked out. I’m not blaming him at all but Cozens doesn’t have that weight on his shoulders. I’m just worried about the coaching. I really believe Krueger is in over his head

To be fair I probably haven’t seeing all the highlights, but the impression burned in my mind is Peters grabbing someone’s jersey and spinning in circles for 45 seconds and then throwing his celebratory hands in the air on his way to the penalty box.

I actually looked on YouTube. He has 2 highlight videos on there. I started watching one of them, I got about 30 seconds into it and realized that I was completely wasting my time

Yeah I get it... it speaks well for his character, as a rookie he's letting his teammates know what he's about.

That's nice, but it doesn't move the needle wrt fixing what's wrong with the organization as a whole.

Guys that I'd like to see fight in the next few games in no particular order...

    • Reinhart
    • VO
    • Skinner
    • Hall
    • Eichel
    • Dahlin
    • Hutton
    • Jokiharju

The fact that he did drop his gloves before all those players you mentioned is part of the reason he’s being celebrated so to speak today. It shouldn’t have been him, but the fact that he’s willing to shows what the kid is made of. If you would have told me there was a fight last night and asked me to guess who it was, Cozens might have been the last person I guessed

I'll play. I didn't watch any of the game, and and only saw the fight (actually, the beat down) on Twitter. I think it may matter because Cozens showed remarkable energy, heart, and bravery when, as a 19 year old rookie, he scrapped with a young veteran who apparently plays a physical style and can presumably handle himself. The fact that Cozens opened up a can of whoop ass only adds value. Those are intangible things, but I'd say they're important -- especially a to a hockey team (maybe even more so than to other sports teams).

Yeah but why did it matter? Just kidding. Spot on assessment. Sadly it won’t be enough for him

But again, what does it actually mean? What did it even accomplish? The Sabres aren't losing because their big names don't punch ppl.

People want to be excited about the fight, that's fine, but don't act like it was some big important milestone for this team.

They also played the Rangers, a team that isn't good.

Do you come here just to argue with people?

Why is it a big deal that cozens did it?

He’s the only one that has. It could have been anyone else. But the fact that it was Cozens is big in my eyes. Was fighting even allowed in his junior league? I haven’t ever heard of him fighting anybody. That’s why, to me, it’s a big deal. It’s not like he’s some goon like John Scott just fighting people for no reason

I grew up in the era of bench clearing brawls so when younger I liked it and it would be great if this was an up and coming team growing together.  To me it's a one time incident that won't matter but I did enjoy it a bit. I just don't think it will make a difference

I think it depends on how far gone the locker room is. Does Jack care that Cozens fought somebody? I have no idea. I think it’s a big deal and a lot of other fans do as well, but if the players don’t give a ***** then obviously it was for nothing

They didn’t score a goal.  They didn’t look superhuman afterwards.

It’s not that I think it should help them score.  I’m just glad that Cozens cares.  And I think it does show his teammates that he cares.  That’s all really.

And I don’t even like fighting.  It’s just that in this case it’s an expression of Cozens’ mindset, and I appreciate that he cares.

It blows my mind how some people can’t see it as a positive. Even if you don’t like fighting, you can still see it as a positive. I can agree with this 1000000%. And I like the fighting. We’ve lacked toughness for years. Is it a coincidence that we’ve been terrible for years? I don’t think so but that’s probably a different argument

  11. Ok guys, I’ve been looking for a reason, any reason at all, to get excited for this team. I’d hope that we can all agree that there hasn’t been any reason for excitement this year. It’s dreadful. Last night one of our promising young players showed some heart and beat a dude up to try to get the team fired up. Did it work? Well not so much. But I got excited as hell seeing it. I fell asleep during the 3rd period and missed it live. I was mad this morning when I woke up and saw it because I missed it. It was exciting for me. We might not win another game the rest of the year, but at least for the moment it gives me a glimmer of hope that there is still some heart on the team. Why can’t you guys let us have that?

Since this seems to be the designated Cozens for captain thread, I guess I’ll put this here.

Not sure what it says about the players, the coach, or the fans, but it’s interesting.

    Per 60:

    • Hits: Okposo 4.20 Cozens 3.34
    • Blocked shots: Okposo 0.90 Cozens 1.52
    • Giveaways: Okposo 1.20 Cozens 1.52
    • Takeaways: Okposo 1.20 Cozens 1.21
    • ice time: Okposo 13.20 Cozens 13.09
    • Corsi: Okposo 46.2% Cozens 48.4%
    • Fenwick: Okposo 45.1% Cozens 46.6%
    • Expected goals: Okposo .46 Cozens .56
    • Offensive zone starts: Okposo 44.6% Cozens 46.7%
    • PDO: Okposo 93.3 Cozens 102.8

I mean, it kinda looks like they are almost the same player, with Cozens having more luck (PDO)

My post with “Cozens for captain” was meant for entertainment purposes only. I could see it down the road at some point but I’m talking  at least 3 years away...

Oh yes. Call people ignorant for something they never said. Hey look everyone – it is say whatever you want day and it doesn’t matter if it has any relation to reality! You just think it and you say it!

Wow. You’re big mad. I hope you figure out a way to get over it

It can be debated whether it elicited any response from the team.  The stats would say NO, meaning no perceived "lift" in the play of the other players....disappointing.

I would say though that if this were a home game last night in front of a full arena, the response from the crowd might be deafening....which still may or may not inspire this current team, but at least the fans in the stands would be charged-up.

This is so weird to me. A very precious few on here want to argue to the death about Cozens fighting. At the very least it elicited a passionate response from the fan base, whether you agree or disagree with it. If you can’t see that then you are just plain ignorant. Good grief..
