I agree, and that is why the only chance of seeing this team make the playoffs next year is in my dreamland. Their forward lineup in this years playoffs would have been the worst out of all the teams.

If our power play was designed and coached by any of the 7,999,999,999 people on Earth who aren't Matt Ellis that dream would've been a reality this season.

You can’t keep everyone.  That’s the painful truth of the NHL salary cap.  It’s even harder when the team has a lower internal cap.

If you keep Power, odds are that we won’t be able to afford to keep Bryam.  These are the tough choices the GM has to make.  My point is make the choice now and reallocate Power’s 8 million to improve other areas of the team.  Are you giving up a prime asset.  Yes, of course and that’s the point.  Here Power will never blossom into a No 1 D.  Dahlin deservedly has that job for the longterm.  That means we are paying Power like a no. 1 D, but can’t utilize him that way. That’s a waste of limited cap space imho.  I also like Bryam’s game a little better.

This is like worrying about dealing with the upkeep expenses if you end up living in a mansion when you currently reside in a cardboard box on Skid Row.

Trading Power makes absolutely no sense! What you would be doing is jettisoning a player who as a rookie did play well, added to the fact that he has so much untapped immense upside to his game. All of that upside is not going to be actualized in one year. Acting out of frustration and impatience is self-sabotaging. It won't take long to come to the realization that the player you let go is now starring on another team.

Not too long ago, you wanted Mitts thrown out the door. He became one of our better players. You also wanted to get rid of UPL because he wasn't an instant franchise goalie. Last year, he demonstrated that he could be our long-term franchise goalie. (I'm aware making conclusive judgments on goalies are fraught with inaccuracies.)

My point here is simple, it is better to be patient and act with calculation than it is to act out of frustration. It's so aggravating to see many of our former players thriving on cup contending teams while we continue to be stuck in the mud. What you are essentially arguing for is to provide the league with more of our talented players so that we can continue to take futile actions that gets us nowhere.

You would think the fact that there are an absurd number of former Sabres on the teams still competing for the cup would teach people a very painful lesson, but nope...

One of the biggest weaknesses that this GM has, and you seem to allude to, is his ability to assess pro talent. The Sabre organization has been solid in evaluating prospects but not too adept in assessing talent in the market. Apparently, it is more by design not to get involved in the market, and instead emphasize what one has in the system. That's a mistake simply because you are limiting your options to improve when some avenues are deliberately taken off the table.

As far as I'm concerned, at this point, I simply don't care if a transaction is strategically made or are done reactively. The issue comes down to adding talent to the roster, one way or the other. I have not been as harsh a critic of this GM as many here are. But if he doesn't show a greater level of urgency this offseason through deeds, then my patience with him and his approach will be exhausted. There is no excuse for him not to make moves to improve and better balance this roster.

Do you know who Adams cannot acquire through a trade no matter what he offers? Anyone in the entire league with a no trade/no move clause. But I will note this doesn't let him off the hook for appearing to have no clue about constructing a roster.

  5. I don't think people realize just how horrible a job Granato and his staff did last season when you look at the other coaches who got sacked for poor results. All of the other guys essentially got sunk by terrible goaltending while Granato got very good goaltending with UPL playing close to Vezina level from January on. When you fail miserably with solid goaltending that's as inexcusable and awful a failure as possible. If there was an Anti-Jack Adams award he would deserve to win it unanimously.

Gotta love the Vegas cheaters going down to defeat. Mark Stone with the shortest season in NHL history 🙂

Dallas is pretty good. If the goaltending holds up Pavelski might get that cup.

I mean it's not like Dallas cheated to win their cup on an illegal goal or anything...

He is indeed out. How fast they fall from grace.

Brind'Amour? Now that would be interesting.

There is zero chance RBA leaves Raleigh. He wants to be there and has no desire to leave, they want him to stay.

For baseless rumour (h/t Smell) mongering, it got the big hitters in the media to run it down. That tells me there's smoke but maybe not yet fire. No way Wawrow et al were going to ignore the Internet chatter.

Then the news that there has been an NHL approved party interested in buying the team. Think that happens by accident? Approval implies due diligence by the league re: the interested party. Seems like a big deal.

Does the league want TP to sell? Is he not selling out of spite? Was the offer merely too low?

So while this wasn't the pants anaconda I was hoping for, my garter snake is still at half staff as I write this.

If Thorny likes this post, all bets are off.

The big hitters in the media addressed it because lots of people weren't smart enough to spot that the whole thing was based on a complete ***** story pushed by a ridiculous nobody on Twitter and regurgitated elsewhere as such obvious clickbait even Stevie Wonder would've been able to see it.

Oshie threw a late and overly aggressive hit on Thompson at the end of the period.  That started it.

Dahlin came in and blasted Oshie.  That escalated it.

Many Caps and officials pour in on Dahlin.  Dahlin was held by an official while Oshie threw punches at him.  #17 also threw punches at Dahlin while Dahlin was being held.

Clifton was strong enough to pull Oshie out of there and hold him.   Cliffy and Oshie would be a good fight actually but it was obvious that Oshie did not want Clifton, he wanted Dahlin.

Patch and OV both had Thompson, when OV saw that Thompson was in a battle with Patche pulled away and he stayed out of it.   The Caps had an extra guy out there with UPL in the net.

Thompson pummeled Pacioretty with at least 6 good shots.

Greenway grabbed Wilson.  Their fight was short.  Greenway lost his balance and fell before Wilson could really tee off.  Wilson was content to go just go home with a takedown on the scorecard.

Dahlin did not start the fight but he came to Thompson's aid and escalated it.

Now Thompson knows that he can throw'em, even though he probably shouldn't.

For those who think that Thompson is not strong and in really good shape, they are wrong.
